Optimization of Sensor Location for Real-Time Damage assessment of Cable in the cable-Stayed Bridge (사장교 케이블의 실시간 손상평가를 위한 센서 배치의 최적화)

  • In this study, real-time damage evaluation of cable-stayed bridges was conducted for cable damage. ICP type acceleration sensors were used for real-time damage assessment of cable-stayed bridges, and Kinetic Energy Optimization Techniques (KEOT) were used to select the optimal conditions for the location and quantity of the sensors. When a structure vibrates by an external force, KEOT measures the value of the maximum deformation energy to determine the optimal measurement position and the quantity of sensors. The damage conditions in this study were limited to cable breakage, and cable damage was caused by dividing the cable-stayed bridge into four sections. Through FE structural analysis, a virtual model similar to the actual model was created in the real-time damage evaluation method of cable. After applying random oscillation waves to the generated virtual model and model structure, cable damage to the model structure was caused. The two data were compared by defining the response output from the virtual model as a corruption-free response and the response measured from the real model as a corruption-free data. The degree of damage was evaluated by applying the data of the damaged cable-stayed bridge to the Improved Mahalanobis Distance (IMD) theory from the data of the intact cable-stayed bridge. As a result of evaluating damage with IMD theory, it was identified as a useful damage evaluation technology that can properly find damage by section in real time and apply it to real-time monitoring.

Strength Analysis of Composite Double-lap Bolted Joints by Progressive Failure Theory Based on Damage Variables (손상변수기반 점진적 파손이론을 이용한 복합재 이중 겹침 볼트 체결부의 강도 해석)

  • A three-dimensional finite analysis method was proposed to predict the failure of composite double-lap bolted joints, which is based on the stiffness degradation method using damage variables and Hashin's three-dimensional failure criteria. Ladeveze's theory using damage variables to consider the matrix/shear damage was combined with stiffness degradation in fiber direction. Four different failure modes were considered including matrix compression/shear, matrix tension/shear, fiber compression, and tension failures. The friction between bolt and composite and the clamping force were considered using a commercial finite element software ABAQUS. The damage model was incorporated using the user-defined subroutine of the software. The predicted result was verified with the existing test result for bearing tension double shear and showed the deviation ranging 7~16% from test results.

Global Behavior Analyses of Structures with Damages Using a Modified Second Order Damage Tensor (수정된 2차손상텐서를 이용한 손상된 구조체의 거동해석)

  • The objective of this study is to develop a damage model based on damage mechanics that can be used to analyze the mechanical behavior of structures with defects and the global behavior of damaged structures. A modified second order damage tensor that can be applied to finite element analysis is used to reflect the effect of damage. The damage stress computed from the effective stress is considered as an additional loading term acting on nodes and can represent the effect of crack surface. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the analysis results with the experimental data from other studies and the analysis results based on transverse isotropic theory. The developed damage model is applied to the analyses of structures with cracks under linear elastic condition. The comparisons confirmed that the quantitative analysis of the structural behavior due to crack orientation and multiple sets of cracks is possible. Also, the damage caused by rock excavation and fault zone is analyzed. The results also showed that the developed model can effectively analyze the global behavior of damaged structures.

  • The purpose of this paper was to estimate the cumulative damage of pavement concrete by split tension fatigue test. The split tension fatigue test of variable amplitude loading were performed in two and three stages. The results of the fatigue test by variable amplitude loading showed that the sums of damage were greater than 1 in the increasing sequence loading tests, and less than 1 in the decreasing sequence loading tests. The remaining life estimated by equivalent damage theory was almost similar to that of experimental results.

  • Despite many combined research efforts outstanding needs exist to develop robust safety-estimation methods for large complex structures. This paper presents a practical damage identification scheme which can be applied to truss structures using only limited modal responses. firstly a theory of pattern recognition (PR) is described. Secondly existing damage-detection algorithms are outlined and a newly-derived algorithms for truss structures. Finally the feasibility of the proposed scheme is evaluated using numerical examples of plane truss structures.

  • A fatigue damage accumulation model based on the continuum damage mechanics theory was developed where modulus decay ratios in tension and shear were used as indicators for damage variables D. In the model, the damage variables are considered to be second-order tensors. Then, the maximum principal damage variable, $D^*$ is introduced. According to the similarity to the principal stress, $D^*$ is obtained as the maximum eigen value of damage tensor [D]. Under proportional tension and torsion loadings, fatigue lives were satisfactorily predicted at any combined stress ratios using the present model in which the Fatigue characteristics only under uniaxial tension and pure torsion loadings were needed. Fatigue life prediction under uniaxial tension and pure torsion loadings, was performed based on the damage mechanics using boundary element method.

  • This paper introduces a structural damage identification method to identify 4he multiple directional damages generated within a cylindrical shell by using the measured frequency response function (FRF). The equations of motion for a damaged cylindrical shell are derived. by using a theory of continuum damage mechanics in which a small material volume containing a directional damage is represented by the effective orthotropic elastic stiffness. In contrast with most existing vibration-based structural damage identification methods which require the modal Parameters measured in both intact and damaged states, the present method requires only the FRF-data measured at damaged state. Numerically simulated damage identification tests are conducted to verify the feasibility of the Proposed structural damage identification method.

  • This study aimed to realize the creation of fuzzy stochastic damage to describe reliability more essentially with the analysis of harmony of damage conception, probability and fuzzy degree of membership in interval [0,1]. Two kinds of fuzzy behaviors of damage development were deduced. Fuzzy stochastic damage models were established based on the fuzzy memberships functional and equivalent normalization theory. Fuzzy stochastic damage finite element method was developed as the approach to reliability simulation. The three-dimensional fuzzy stochastic damage mechanical behaviors of Jianshan mine slope were analyzed and examined based on this approach. The comprehensive results, including the displacement, stress, damage and their stochastic characteristics, indicate consistently that the failure foci of Jianshan mine slope are the slope-cutting areas where, with the maximal failure probability 40%, the hazardous Domino effects will motivate the neighboring rock bodies' sliding activities.

Prediction of Creep Behavior for Cohesive Soils (점성토에 있어서의 크리프 거동 예측)

  • An elastic-plastic-viscous constitutive model was proposed based on a simple formulation scheme. The anisotropic modified Cam-Clay model was extended for the general stress space for the plastic simulation. The generalized viscous theory was simplified and used for the viscous constitutive part. A damage law was incoporated into the proposed constitutive model. The mathematical formulation and development of the model were performed from the point of view that fewer parameters be better employed. The creep behaviors with or without creep rupture were predicted using the developed model for cohesive soils. The model predictions were favorably compared with the experimental results including the undrained creep rupture, which is an important observed phenomenon for cohesive soils. Despite the simplicity of the constitutive model, it performs well as long as the time to failure ratio of the creep rupture tests is within the same order of magnitude.
