  • The present study was performed to examine the community structure of benthic macroinvertebrates in the provincial park of Mt. Daedun and its nearby region. Sampling was conducted two times in May.June and October.November, 2000. Main two areas are Mt. Anpyong (470.0m) and Mt. Daedun (877.0m) area. Total taxa of benthic macroinvertebrates were 111 species, 47 families, 15 orders, 6 classes in 4 phyla. Aquatic insects were composed of 29 species in ephemeroptera, 10 species in odonata, 7 species in plecoptera, 2 species in hemiptera, 2 species in megaloptera, 23 species trichuptera, 6 species in coleoptera and 17 species in diptera. Other non-insects were composed of 1 species in platyhelminthes, 8 species in gastropoda, 2 species in oligochaeta, 3 species in hirudinea and 1 species in crustacea. Ephemeroptera, trichoptera and plecoptera as indicators in clean water were very abundantly. Occurrence species at each surrey area was 77 species at Mt. Anpyong area and 89 species at Mt. Daedun area, respectively. Mean values of species diversity indices were 3.04 and 2.69, respectively. According to the saprobic system based on the species diversity indices of benthic macroinvertebrates, Mt. Anpyong region are determined as polysaprobic area or ${\beta}-mesosaprobic$ area and Mt. Daedun region are determined as polysaprobic area, $\beta-mesosaprobic$ area or ${\alpha}-mesosaprobic$ area.

  • Through the research of tracheophytes type around Mt. Daedun, we are aiming at figuring out the habitat condition of useful resource plants by the classification of vegetation units and communities using the Z-M phyto-sociological method in the basis of the traits of species composition and by the analysis of vegetation and environment by way of coincidence method. Tracheophytes in our research sites was classifid into 117 family, 475 genus 797, species 102 variety,18 breed, in total to 917 kinds. The forest around Mt. Daedun district was classified into 6 communities, 12 groups, 2 sub-groups according to feature species group, differential species group and differential. Judging the result from the examination of community classification factors by the coincidence method, vegetation unit was decided by altitude and topography.

  • Several yeast strains were isolated from leaves collected from Mt. Daedun and Mt. Chilgap in Korea. A total of 79 strains of 32 species were isolated from 44 leaves obtained from Mt. Daedun. Cryptococcus spp., including Cryptococcus magnus, were found to be dominant, while 16 strains of Aureobasidium pullulans were isolated. Among the strains isolated from Mt. Daedun, Asterotremella humicola JSL502, Barnettozyma californica JSL503, Bullera unica JSL501, Bulleromyces albus JSL505, and Candida vaccinii JSL507 are considered rare yeast species in Korea. All of these rare strains, except for Bulleromyces albus JSL505, formed ascospores. Bullera unica JSL501 was able to grow in yeast extract-peptone-dextrose (YPD) medium containing 10% NaCl. Twenty-five yeast strains of 18 species were isolated from 43 leaves obtained from Mt. Chilgap. Six strains of Pseudozyma spp., including three strains of Pseudozyma aphidis, were isolated in the dormant state. Of these strains, the occurrence of Rhodotorula phylloplana JSL515, Rhodotorula pinicola JSL516, Schwanniomyces vanrijiae JSL517, and Sporisorium loudetiae JSL518 is rare in Korea. Only Sporisorium loudetiae JSL518 formed ascospores, while Rhodotorula pinicola JSL516 and Sporisorium loudetiae JSL518 formed pseudomycelia. The halophilic yeast Schwanniomyces vanrijiae JSL517 was isolated and observed to grow in YPD medium containing 5% NaCl.

  • This study was carried out to characterize pinus densiflora forests in middle province (Mt. Seolag, Mt. Taebaik) south province (Mt. Sokli, Mt. Jiri) and south-coast province (Mt. Daedun) of Korea. The appearance species in the P. densiflora alliance included 325 taxa and varied according to the direction of slopes. The steeper the slope was, the fewer number of taxa were observed. The floristic composition of south-coast province was gradually changing to the south hemispheric factors. Dominant species groups of P. densiflora alliance were classified into P. densiflora, Quercus serrata ( layer), Rhus trichocarpa ( layer), Lespedeza maximowiczii var. tomentella (S layer), Artemisia keiskeana, Carex humilis var. nana, Spodiopogon sibiricus (K layer). Quercus variabilis, Fraxinus sieboldiana and Styrax japonica association were formed under the P. densiflora alliance. Quercus, Rhus, Lespedeza and Rhododendron groups maintained high ecological relationships one another. The soil factors (pH, organic matters, and water field capacity)and relative light intensity tended to show negative correlation, which were significantly different among provinces. The P. densiflora forests of Korea were classified into one alliance and four associations, that is, pinion densiflorae Suz.-Tok. 1966, Quercetum variabilae ass. nov., Quercetum mongolicae ass. nov. Fraxinetum sieboldianae ass. nov. and Styraxetum japonicae ass. nov.
