  • This study focuses those periods of Kim Young-Sam and Kim Dae-Jung administration. This study tries to analyze any change in terms of ideological tendency and report attitude on the assessment of the government policy in the Korean newspapers from Kim Young-Sam to Kim Dae-Jung administration. Although these two civilian regimes were born after long periods of military dictatorship, there are many distinguished differences dividing these two. Kim Young-Sam could succeed through joining with the establishment of the power, while Kim Dae-Jung was elected as President through the horizontal shift of the power, opposition party becoming ruling party. Their power base was different. Another big difference is their North Korea policy. Kim Young-Sam administration's policy was conservative, while Kim Dae-Jung administration's policy was liberal. This study selected four Korean newspapers that represent each aspect of ideological spectrum in Korean media, and focused on the editorials of each paper as major analysis base. The four papers are Dong-a Ilbo, Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Ilbo, and Hankyoreh. The study concludes that in terms of the report attitude on the assessment of the government policy, Dong-a, Chosun, JoongAng were more critical under Kim Dae-Jung administration than Kim Young-Sam administration. And Hankyoreh became more supportive of Kim Dae-Jung policy. In terms of the ideological tendency, four newspapers altogether did not change their ideological color regardless of the change in the administration. However conservative color became thinner( Dong-a, Chosun, JoongAng) and liberal color became thicker(Hankyoreh) a little under Kim Dae-Jung administration than Kim Young-Sam administration. Each newspaper tried to show their ideological tendency clearly in order to influence on government policy.

  • This paper investigated the costumes of young girl dancers in Yon wha dae moo(연화대무: Lotus Stage dance) which were documented on the Ak-hak-guae-bum(악학궤범: Protocol of music) and the Jin-yeon-eui-guae(진연의궤: Archives of Royal Feast). The fashion of the costumes can be changed into three phases, based mainly on the changes of Hap-rip(합립: silk hat), Dan-eui(단의: long jacket) and Sang(상: apron type skirt). In the first phase the costume consisted of Hap-rip, round neck-line Dan-eui and tiered skirt decorated with pleat and Yu-so(유소: decorated cords). In the second phase. it consisted of Hap-rip, v-shape neck-line Dan-eui and skirt without pleat. In the third phase, it consisted of Yeon-wha-gwan(연화관: Lotus shape cap), round neck-line Dan-eui of later era and skirt with pleat and Yu-so. Yon-wha-dae dance appears to be adopted from Ja-ji-mu( 자지무: chinese dance) that originated in West and Central Asia. In both dances. young girl dancers danced mainly jump and spin. The costume of round neck-line Dan-eui seems to have been affected by the fashion in Dang Dynasty when young girls loved to wear Dan-ryung(단령: male coat with round neckline). And it satisfied the need of mobility for the dance which was Performed mainly with jump.

  • A number of 7-[(3-methylthio or methylthiomethyl)pyrrolidiny]qui nolone-3-carboxylic acids were synthesized by condensation of 7-fluoro substituted quinolone-3-carboxylic acid with 3-methylthiopyrrolidine or 3-methylthiomet hylpyrrolidne. 3-Methylthiopyrrolidine or 3-methylthio-methylpyrrolidine which was prepared from N-benzyl-3-hydroxy pyrrolidine or 3-hydroxymethylpyrrolidine. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of them were tested against twenty species of Gram-positive or Gram-negative microorganisms. It showed remarkable antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive microorganisms. Among those 1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-7-(3-methylthiomethy-lpyrrolidinyl)-1,4-d ihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid(7d) and 1-cyclopropyl-6- fluoro-8-chloro-7-(3-methylthiomethyl pyrrolidinyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid (7f) showed the most potent in vitro antibacterial activity.

Methods: From March 1st 2003 to June 30th 2003, the clinical comparison studies were carried out 20 cases of stroke patients with dysarthria treated by Sa-Am acupuncture(Group I) & general acupuncture(Group II), who had been treated in Dept. of acupuncture and Moxibustion, Dae-jeon Oriental Medical Hospital, Dae-jeon University. Results : The results obtained as follows; 1. The Articuration of Group I and Group II was improved significantly. Group I is more effective than Group II significantly(p<0.05). 2. The Vowel of Group I and Group II was improved but there was no signification(p>0.05). 3. The Alternation of Group I and Group II was improved significantly. Group I is more effective than Group II significantly(p<0.05). 4. The Speed of reading the sentence of Group I and Group II was improved but only Group I was improved significantly(p<0.05). • This paper seeks to analyze how the welfare state has developed both in the Kim Young Sam government and in the Kim Dae Jung government. Among other things, the two governments share some similarities: compared to the previous authoritarian governments, both of them enjoyed a high level of democratic legitimacy; the two were under pressure to win the elections to acquire and remain in power; and finally, the two tried to strengthen welfare system. But there exist more critical differences. The Kim Dae Jung government was a minority government, while the Kim Young Sam government was a majority one. Compared to the latter one, the former came to power in an extremely bad economic condition. Fortunately, however, the Kim Dae Jung government was able to enjoy a relatively high level of state autonomy resulting from an exceptional situation of foreign currency crisis. In addition, it was more reformist in policy orientation and had a more open cooperative network with civil society. All these differences added up to produce remarkable differences with regard to the improvement in welfare development. Especially, it is noted that the Kim Dae Jung government was very successful in several respects: provision of national minimum, integration of national medical insurance, development of productive welfare system, and final1y increase in welfare spending. Recently, criticisms from the opposition party, the press, and middle and upper class people mount against the Kim Dae Jung government which has made significant mistakes in instituting the separation of medical and pharmaceutical businesses. However, the important improvements in welfare institutions and programs by the Kim Dae Jung government need to be maintained to deal with all the negative effects of a naked market economy. They must also be sustained to keep alive democracy that Korean people have fought for nearly half a century.
