This paper is for the design and implementation of SGML presentation system to format based on DSSSL (Document style semantics and specification Language). ISO proposed DSSSL as the technological standard for formatting and transforming SGML document. So, the body of this paper shows the design of this system in accordance with the model defined in DSSSL. This system, which is able to provide Korean, has Parsing function of arbitrary DTD, SGML document and DSSSL styles sheet, and contains a formatter that can manage various details, such as table, list, picture and others, as well as text.

ISO/lEC proposed DSSSL as the technological standard for formatting and transforming SGML document. This paper shows the design of this system in accordance with the model defined in DSSSL. This system, which is able to provide Korean, has parsing function of arbitrary DTDs, SGML documents and DSSSL style sheets, and contains a formatter that can manage various specifications, such as graphs, lists, pictures, as well as text. This will satisfy a user's intent for exchange of SGML documents that involve format information between different types, greatly contribute to make up SGML document processing environment.

SGML은 이 기종간에 호환이 가능하고 논리적인 구조 정보를 포함한다는 장점 때문에 문서처리의 다양한 분야에서 표준 포맷으로 자리를 잡았다. 그러나 SGML 은 문서의 스타일이나 변환등의 처리 정보를 기술할 수 있는 방법을 제공하지 않는다. 이에 ISO는 SGML 문서의 다양한 처리 정보를 기술할 수 있는 표준으로 DSSSL을 제안하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 SGML 문서의 내용 및 구조를 수정할 수 있는 DSSSL 기반의 문서 변환기를 개발하였다. 이를 위하여 SGML 문서와 DSSSL 문서간의 표준적인 인터페이스를 지원하는 Grove 생성기를 개발하였으며 DSSSL 의 변환 언어를 지원하는 처리 모듈을 개발하였다.

SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language) is the ISO standard fer describing the logical structure of documents and is also adopted as the CALS standard for document description. Since then, there have been growing interests in SGML application in a variety of fields. However because SGML doesn't provide a standard method for describing various processing informations, ie, formatting and transformation, most applications have applied methods that are system dependent. Recently, ISO defined DSSSL(Document Style Semantics and Specification Language) as a standard mechanism to specify the formatting, transformation and retrieval of structured documents. Therefore, in this paper, we present a DSSSL processing system far style control of structured documents such as SGML documents. The system processes DSSSL style sheet that describes layout of documents and browses the result of its application to a SGML document. We have conducted tests on a lot of SGML documents and DSSSL style sheets successfully. Now, we are developing the SGML document management system that supports creation, editing, storage and retrieval of SGML document based upon the DSSSL processor and the SGML parser which we have developed.

본 연구에서는 SGML 문서의 포맷팅과 변환을 지원하는 DSSSL 처리기를 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 DSSL의 문서 처리 과정과 이를 지원하는 처리기의 개발 방법을 소개한다. 또한 개발 결과를 다양한 문서처리 환경에 적용하여 DSSL의 우수성과 개선이 요구되는 부분에 대하여 기술한다. 그 결과 DSSL은 구조 기반 검색을 지원하는 질의 언어와 다양한 연산기능을 지원하는 수식 언어에 기반하기 때문에 강력한 포맷팅과 변환기능을 제공한다. 그러나 처리 방식의 특성상, DSSL은 사용자 인터랙션이 많으며 위지윅한 문서 환경보다는 일괄처리 방식의 문서 처리 분야에 더 적합하다.

문서의 내용을 효율적으로 표현하기 위해서는 문서를 문서구조와 형식으로 분리하는 것이 필요하다. 인터넷에서의 문서구조는 SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language)에서 파생된 HTML로 표현하는 것이 일반화되었으며, 1996년에 이르러 문서형식 부분도 DSSSL(Document Style Semantics and Specification Language: ISO/IEC 10179)로 제정되었으나 아직 개발 사례는 없다. 동 기술은 DSSSL 형식에 따라 복합문서를 볼 수 있게 개발한 Library를 기반으로 SGML 기반 브라우저를 1998년 4월 세계 최초로 개발하였다.

ISO W3C에서 제안하고 있는 SGML은 문서의 논리적인 구조만을 기술하는 표준이기 때문에 레이아웃이나 프리젠테이션(Presentation)에 관한 정보는 포함하지 않는다. 따라서 SGML 문서를 보다 더 효율적으로 프리젠테이션(또는 브라우징)하기 위해서는 이에 대한 정보인 스타일시트(stylesheet)를 별도로 제공하여야 한다. 본 연구는 서로 다른 저작환경으로부터 구성된 문자를 사용자가 투명하게 뷰잉 또는 브라우징 할 수 ISO DSSSL 기반의 SGML 웹 브라우저를 이용하여 설계 및 구현한다.

SGML(ISO 8879) has been proliferated to support various document styles and to transfer documents into different platforms. SGML documents have logical structure information in addition to contents. As SGML documents are widely used, there is an increasing need for database storage and retrieval system using the logical structure of documents. However. traditional search engines using document indexes cannot exploit the logical structure. In this Paper, we have developed an SGML document storage system, which is DTD-independent and store the document type and the document instance separately by using Grove which is the document model for DSSSL and HyTime. We have used the Object Store, an object-oriented DBMS, to store the structure information appropriately without any loss of structural information. Also, we have supported a index structure for search efficiency like the relational DBMS, and constructed an effective user interface which combines content-based search with structure-based search.

본 논문에서는 문서 영상으로부터 전자 문서를 자동 생성하기 위한 논리적인 구조 분석을 효율적으로 지원하기 위하여 문서 모델의 자동 생성과 점증적인 학습 기법을 제안한다. 이를 위하여 문서 유형의 논리적인 구조 정보와 기하적인 특성을 효과적으로 기술할 수 있는 문서 모델을 정의한다. 특히 제안된 방법은 문서 모델의 생성 결과로부터 SGML DTD와 DSSSL 스타일 시트를 생성하기 때문에 문서의 재 사용성과 호환성을 지원한다.
