  • There are various methodologies to forecast the travel time using real-time data but the K-nearest neighborhood (KNN) method in general is regarded as the most one in forecasting when there are enough historical data. The objective of this study is to evaluate applicability of KNN method. In this study, real-time and historical data of toll collection system (TCS) traffic flow and the dedicated short range communication (DSRC) link travel time, and the historical path travel time data are used as input data for KNN approach. The proposed method investigates the path travel time which is the nearest to TCS traffic flow and DSRC link travel time from real-time and historical data, then it calculates the predicted path travel time using weight average method. The results show that accuracy increased when weighted value of DSRC link travel time increases. Moreover the trend of forecasted and real travel times are similar. In addition, the error in forecasted travel time could be further reduced when more historical data could be available in the future database.

  • As the development and distribution of the intelligent transport system is spreading recently and some of the services are commercialized through a pilot project, interest in DSRC with high utilization is increasing and antennas for roadside and on board equipment are being studied. A single patch was used for a vehicle antenna due to the requests of miniaturization of size, but there was performance degradation in most cases due to miniaturization. In addition, some methods to improve performance have been used in the antennas that were previously researched using the arrays, but they have the disadvantages of bulkiness in size of the antennas when using the arrays. Therefore, in this paper, the CPW fed microstrip patch antenna with the simple structure of being compact and easy to produce, which can be used in the OBU of DSRC, was designed.

  • The recent development of information and communication technologies brings new changes to automobile traffic systems. The most typical example is the advancement of dedicated short range communication(DSRC). DSRC mainly consists of an intelligent transportation system(ITS), an electronic toll collection system(ETCS) and an advanced traveler information system(ATIS). These wireless communications often cause unnecessary electromagnetic waves, and these electromagnetic waves, in turn, cause frequent system malfunction. To solve this problem, an absorber of electromagnetic waves is suggested. In this research, various materials, such as powdered metal and iron oxides, are used to test the possibility for an effective absorption of the unnecessary electromagnetic waves. The various metal powders are made into a thin sheet form by compositing through processing. The electromagnetic characteristics(complex permittivity, complex permeability) of the fabricated sheet are measured. As a result, we achieve -6.5 dB at 940 MHz(77.6 % absorption rate) with a 1.0 mm-thickness electromagnet wave absorber, and -9.5 dB at 940 MHz(88.8 % absorption rate) with a 2.0 mm-thickness absorber.

효과적인 ITS 서비스를 위해서는 물리적 통신망은 물론 통신망을 구성하고 있는 각 요소들과 관련되어있는 정보시스템들이 동시에 연구되어야 하므로 ISCNA(Information Systems and Communication Networks Architecture) 준거모형에 의한 접근을 하였다.

  • In this study, we developed a OBE(On Board Equipment) system in which moving cars communicate directly each other to exchange traffic information. this system achieved by using DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication). this technology can improve the fidelity of collected information by transferring current state information from a moving car to center in real time. As a consequence of it, moving cars can be offer information service of hight quality even in a shadow zone. and also, in addition to basic ETC function for toll payment, using our newly developed system, delivering traffic information and providing additive service like GPS can be achieved by car-to-car direct communication within shadow areas without additional infra-structure.
