A New Method to Find Bars

  • We have classified barred galaxies for 418 RC3 sample galaxies within z < 0.01 from SDSS DR7 using the visual inspection, ellipse fitting method and Fourier analysis. We found the bar fraction to be ~60%, 43% and 70% for each method and that the ellipse fitting method tends to miss the bar when a large bulge hides the transition from bar to disk in early spirals. We also confirmed that the Fourier analysis cannot distinguish between a bar and spiral arm structure. These systematic difficulties may have produced the long-time controversy about bar fraction dependence on Hubble sequence, mass and color. We designed a new method to fine bars by analyzing the ratio map of bar strength in polar coordinates, which yields the bar fraction of ~27% and ~32% for SAB and SB, respectively. The consistency with visual inspection reaches around 70%, and roughly 90% of visual strong bar are classified as SAB and SB in our classification. Although our method also has a weakness that a large bulge lowers the value of bar strength, the missing bar fraction in early spirals is reduced to the level of ~1/4 compared to the ellipse fitting method. Our method can make up for the demerits of the previous automatic classifications and provide a quantitative bar classification that agrees with visual classification.

한국인 기면병 환자의 Human Leukocyte Antigen(HLA) DQB1*0602 발현 빈도 (Expression of Human Leukocyte Antigen DQB1*0602 in Korean Patients with Narcolepsy)

  • 목 적 : 본 연구는 기면병 환자와 정상 대조군에서 사람 백혈구 항원(human leukocyte antigen, 이하 HLA) DQB1*0602와 DR2의 발현 빈도를 조사하여 한국인 기면병 환자의 표지자로서의 가능성을 확인하고자 하였으며, 동시에 기면병 환자에서 나타나는 증상의 특성을 조사하였다. 방 법 : 야간수면 다원검사 및 입면잠복기 반복검사에서 입면잠복기의 평균값이 5분 이하이며, 최소 2회 이상의 수면시작 REM기(sleep onset REM periods)가 발생한 기면병 환자 20명(남자 11명, 여자 9명, 연령분포 $8{\sim}55$세, 평균연령 $28.2{\pm}13.0$세)과 정상 대조군 21명(남자 9명, 여자 12명, 연령분포 $21{\sim}39$세, 평균연령 $28.6{\pm}4.4$세)을 대상으로 하여 HLA typing을 시행하였다. 기면병의 제반 임상증상은 면담과 수면설문지를 통하여 수집하였다. 결 과 : 1) 기면병 환자군의 입면잠복기 반복 검사 결과 입면잠복기의 평균값은 $2.4{\pm}2.0$분이었으며, Sleep onset REM periods의 발생 평균 회수는 $3.0{\pm}1.6$회로 나타났다. 2) 기면병 환자군 모두에서 기면병의 주요 증상인 과도한 주간 졸리움 및 탈력발작을 나타냈고, 수면마비, 입면환각 및 야간수면장애는 각각 12명(60.0%), 14명(70.0%) 및 15명(75.0%)에서 발생하였다. 3) 탈력발작은 주로 감정적인 자극에 의하여 유발되어, 웃을때(80%, n=16)와 농담할 때(70%, n=14)에 가장 흔하게 유발되었으며, 탈력발작 발생부위의 빈도는 무릎과 다리 부분이 95%(n=19)이었으며, 턱부위는 30%(n=6)로 나타났다. 4) HLA-DQB1*0602는 환자군 20명중 18명(90.0%), 정상 대조군 21명중 5명(23.8%)에서 양성으로 나타났으며, HLA-DR2는 환자군 중 18명(90%), 정상 대조군 중 7명 (35%)에서 양성으로 나타났다. 결 론 : 이상의 결과에서 한국인 기면병 환자에서 HLADQB1*0602 양성이 높은 빈도로 나타났으며, 여러 인종들을 대상으로 한 여러 연구 결과와도 일치하여 HLA-DQB1*0602가 인종을 초월한 매우 유용한 표지자가 될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

지적자본의 정보유용성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Information Usefulness of Intellectual Capital)

  • This paper examined the significance of Intellectual Capital. In recent years the number of companies whose value lies largely with their intellectual capital has increased dramatically. Dr. Margaret Blair of the Brookings Institute reported a significant shift in the makeup of company assets. In 1978, her study showed that 80 pecent of the firms'value was associated with its tangible assets, with 20 pecent associated with its intangible assets. By 1998, only 30 pecent of the value of the firms studied was attributable to tangible assets while 70 pecent was associated with the value of their intangibles. This paper used the result of her study. This paper tested the correlation of enterprise value and intellectual capital, cash flow, net income and net assets. The results showed that the correlation of enterprise value and intellectual capital was most significant.

Early Life History of Coreoperca herzi in Han River, Korea

  • This study aimed to investigate early life of Coreoperca herzi living in Han River and compare morphological differences between different groups during the development in order to provide basic data for relevant taxonomic research. On average, one female individual spawned 541 to 861 eggs (average 701) at once. After 259 hours, the tail broke out of the egg membrane and hatching began. Immediately after hatching, the larvae were average 7.81±0.10 mm (n=5) in total length. 60 days the juvenile was average 35.9±1.30 mm (n=5) in total length. The white spots spread to the rest of the body, rending the same pattern as that on the body of their broodstock fish.

김치에서 분리한 유산균과 starter를 첨가한 김치의 항암효과

  • 본 연구는 김치에서 분리한 유산균과 starter를 첨가하여 제조한 김치의 항암효과가 in vitro 상에서 어떻게 나타나는지 알기위해 실시하였다. 유산균의 균체 자체로는 모든 암세포에 있어서 세포독성을 거의 나타내지 못하였으며, 김치액의 경우는 평균적으로 $30{\sim}40%$정도의 세포독성을 보여주었다. 김치액인 K2가 K1에 비하여 다소 높은 세포독성을 나타내어 첨가된 starter에 따라 약간의 차이를 보여주었다. 유산균의 파쇄액의 경우에는 모든 암세포에서 50%이상의 세포독성을 보였고 대장암 세포인 WiDr과 위암세포인 MKN-45에서 $70{\sim}80%$ 정도의 세포독성으로 암세포 성장 저해에 상당히 효과적으로 관찰되었다. 유산균의 종류에 따른 세포독성을 비교해보면, 혼합 균체 파쇄액인 E3가 단일 균체 파쇄액보다 전반적으로 약간 높은 경향을 보여주었다.

용접구조물의 최신 비파괴 검사기술 (Latest Technology of Non Destructive Inspection for Welded Structure)

  • As the Non Destructive Test (NDT) for the welded structure, PT(Penetration Test). MT(Magnetic Test), RT (Radioisotope Test) and UT(Ultrasonic Test) methods are widely used in practice. These NDT methods have been developed toward high efficiency, low cost, real time, and high precise new NDT. For example, RT methods are developed to CT(Computed Tomography)and DR(Digital Radiography), and UT metheds are developed into Phased array, Guide wave, TOFD method. Moreover, the Infrared thermography and Laser ultrasonic technique are newly developed for applying in high temperature objects as the non-contact NDT methods. In this review paper the new high efficiency NDT methods for the welded structure are introduced and the trend of NDT rules applying in welded structure are described.

  • 메타데이터를 표준화된 형태로 저장하기 위해서 제안된 데이터 레지스트리(DR)는 메타데이터의 유통을 위한 구체적인 방안을 제시하고 있지 않으며, 현재 데이터 레지스트리는 HTML을 이용한 인터페이스만을 제공하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 데이터 레지스트리에 저장된 메타데이터를 효율적으로 유통할 수 있는 방법으로 XML을 이용하였으며, 이를 위해 ISO/IEC 11179에 기반한 데이터 레지스트리로부터 XML 문서를 생성할 수 있는 인터페이스를 설계 및 구현하였다. 구현한 XML 생성 인터페이스는 데이터 레지스트리에 저장된 메타데이터를 XML 형식으로 만들어 줌으로써, 응용 프로그램들이 효과적으로 데이터 레지스트리에 접근하여 메타데이터를 이용할 수 있는 환경을 제공한다.

Research Status of Sail Propulsion using the Solar Wind

  • A spacecraft propulsion system utilizing the energy of the solar wind was reviewed. The first plasma sail concept was proposed by Prof. Winglee in 2000, and that was called M2P2(mini-magnetospheric plasmapropulsion). However, the first M2P2 design adopting a small(20-cm-diamter) coil and a small helicon plasma source design was criticized by Dr. Khazanov in 2003. He insisted that: 1) MHD is not an appropriate approximation to describe the M2P2 design by Winglee, and with ion kinetic simulation, it was shown that the M2P2 design could provide only negligible thrust; 2) considerably larger sails(than that Winglee proposed) would be required to tap the energy of the solar wind. We started our plasma ssail study in 2003, and it is shown that moderately sized magnetic sails can produce sub-Newton-class thrust in the ion inertial scale(${\sim}70$ km). Currently, we are continuing our efforts to make a feasibly sized plasma sail(Magnetoplasma sail) by optimizing the magnetic field inflation process Winglee proposed.

『상한론(傷寒論)』 변병진단체계(辨病診斷體系)에 근거하여 시호계지건강탕(柴胡桂枝乾薑湯) 투여 후 호전된 소화불량을 동반한 두통 1례 (Headache with Dyspepsia Treated by Sihogyejigungang-tang Based on Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System by Shanghanlun Provisions)

  • Objectives: This case study aimed to report the effect of Sihogyejigungang-tang (SGGT) on headache with dyspepsia based on the disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS) based on the Shanghanlun provisions. Methods: According to the DPIDS based on the Shanghanlun provisions, the patient was diagnosed with Greater Yang Disease Chest Bind and treated with SGGT. The results of treatment were evaluated by a numerical rating scale (NRS), the Korean Headache Impact Test (KHIT-6), and change in clinical symptoms. Results: After administering SGGT for 160 days, the NRS improved from 9 to 1 and the KHIT-6 improved from 70 to 44. No serious treatment-related adverse events were reported. Conclusions: This study shows the effective treatment of headache with dyspepsia using SGGT based on the DPIDS based on the Shanghanlun provisions.

Enhanced Anti-Cancer Effect of Snake Venom Activated NK Cells on Lung Cancer Cells by Inactivation of NF-κB

  • In the present study, we investigated anti-cancer effect of snake venom activated NK cells (NK-92MI) in lung cancer cell lines. We used snake venom ($4{\mu}g/ml$) treated NK-92MI cells to co-culture with lung cancer cells. There was a further decrease in cancer cell growth up to 65% and 70% in A549 and NCI-H460 cell lines respectively, whereas 30-40% was decreased in cancer cell growth by snake venom or NK-92MI alone treatment. We further found that the expression of various apoptotic proteins such as that Bax, and cleaved caspase-3 as well as the expression of various death receptor proteins like DR3, DR4 and Fas was also further increased. Moreover, consistent with cancer cell growth inhibition, the DNA binding activity of NF-${\kappa}B$ was also further inhibited after treatment of snake venom activated NK-92MI cells. Thus, the present data showed that activated NK cells could further inhibit lung cancer cell growth.
