  • The purpose of this study was to assess the intra-rater test-retest reliability of tibial external rotation angle measurement using a smartphone-based photographic goniometer, DrGoniometer (DrG) compared to a three-dimensional motion analysis system (Vicon). The current study showed an interchangeable method using DrG to measure the tibial external rotation angle in standing knee flexion at $90^{\circ}$. Twelve healthy subjects participated in this study. A rest session was conducted 30 minutes later for within-day reliability and five days later for between-day intra-rater test-retest reliability. To assess the validity of the measurement using DrG, we used a three dimensional motion analysis system as a gold standard to measure the angle of tibial external rotation. Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) and the standard error of measurement (SEM) values were used to determine the within- and between- day intra-rater test-retest reliability of using DrG and a three dimensional motion analysis system. To assess validity, Pearson correlation coefficients were used for two measurement techniques. The measurement for tibial external rotation had high intra-rater test-retest reliability of within-day (ICC=.88) and between-day (ICC=.83) reliability using DrG and of within-day (ICC=.93) and between-day (ICC=.77) reliability using a three-dimentional motion analysis system. Tibial external rotation angle measurement using DrG was highly correlated with those of the three-dimensional motion analysis system (r=.86). These results represented that the tibial external rotation angle measurement using DrG showed acceptable reliability and validity compared with the use of three-dimensional motion analysis system.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-cancer effects of Oldenlandia diffusa extract on WiDr human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. Methods : We examined cell death by (3-[4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) MTT assay and the caspase 3 and 9 activity assay with Oldenlandia diffusa extract. To examine the inhibitory effects of Oldenlandia diffusa extract, we performed a cell cycle (sub-G1) analysis and mitochondrial membrane potential for the WiDr cells after 24 hours with Oldenlandia diffusa extract. Results : 1. Oldenlandia diffusa extract induced cell death in WiDr cells. 2. The sub-G1 peak was increased by Oldenlandia diffusa extract in WiDr cells. 3. Oldenlandia diffusa extract leads to increase the mitochondrial membrane depolarization in WiDr cells. 4. Oldenlandia diffusa extract increases caspase 3 and 9 activities in WiDr cells. 5. Oldenlandia diffusa extract combined with several anti-cancer drugs (paclitaxel, 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin, ectoposide, doxorubicin and docetaxel) markedly inhibited the growth of WiDr cells compared to Oldenlandia diffusa extract and anti-cancer drugs alone. Conclusions : Oldenlandia diffusa extract has an apoptotic role in human colorectal cancer cells and a potential role in developing therapeutic agents against colorectal cancer.

  • This study extracts characteristics of signal by wavelet transform to prove that the Compton scattering, occurred by changed the energy, influenced a picture. We also analyzed the extracted data and evaluated how much the picture of scatter-rays was affected by a change of tube voltage. For this study, we wrote a program with MatLap which is engineering tool and evaluated with the program on variation of scattered-rays due to increased tube voltage. The evaluation result shows both CR and DR have frequency changes of high frequency area by tube voltage variations and it proved that Compton scattering influences the picture. In conclusion, according to this study indicates that DR is more sensitive to radiation with high energy than CR. Therefore, the research on DR detector needs to be advanced as actual condition of clinical setting is being changed to DR circumstance gradually. From the result of this study, we expect that assessment method of the image quality using MatLab Tool becomes the official assessment method and very useful method.

  • The tensile properties of short nylon6 fiber reinforced NR and SBR have been investigated as functions of fiber aspect ratio(AR), diameter ratio(DR), interphase condition, and fiber content. The tensile strength increased with increasing fiber AR(20 min.) and good interphase conditions. The short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=20 min.) reinforced SBR did not show the dilution effect for all interrhase conditions. And the short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=20min.) reinforced NR did not show the dilution effect except for the no-coating. The tensile moduli were significantly improved due to fiber AR. fiber content, and good interphase at same DR. The better interphase condition showed the higher pull-out force at same DR. Also, the stress analysis near the fiber end carried out using axisymmetric FEA to be convinced of the reinforcing mechanism. It is found that the fiber AR, interphase and DR have an important effect on tensile properties.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of expressionism in the space of deconstructive architecture by comparing the spaces of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" video with the expressionist characteristics of film narrative structure and expressionist architecture and making an expansion based on the results. The findings were as follows: first, the "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" is divided into two set spaces: one has the perspective representation distorted in the viewpoint of a mad person applied to it, and the other reflects the viewpoint of a normal person from medieval paintings with no perspective. Second, the expressionist buildings did not reflect the expressionist characteristics in the interior spaces as fully as in the exterior ones. Third, the incomplete combination of Signifiant and $Signifi{\acute{e}}$, which were the theoretical basis of deconstructive architecture, showed a tendency of binary opposition like the double narrative structure of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." Fourth, deconstructive architecture seems to embody the exterior form and interior space of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and its set spaces in the phenomenal aspect but exhibits its limitations with the realization of dynamics, one of the characteristics of expressionism. Finally, the Seattle Public Library presents the best embodiment of expressionist characteristics found in the set spaces of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" while seeking after the combination of horizontal and vertical paths of action through the spiral ramps and inclined slabs.

  • Drynariae Rhizorna (DR), an herbal medicine known for its effect to purify blood quality and improve circulation, frequently appears as the main ingredient in prescriptions for bone injuries. Currently, how pharmacologically it contributes to the reformation of bone is unclear. In the present study, the effect of the aqueous extract of DR on bone cells was investigated in vitro for the first time. The human osteoprecursor cells (OPC-I) were incubated in the medium with different concentrations of the aqueous extract of DR and the cell proliferation was studied. When the concentration of DR aqueous extract was $<120{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$, the proliferation of OPC-I was enhanced. However, the proliferation of OPC-I was inhibited by DR extract with the concentrations $>250{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$. Under most treatments, the cells presented very pale expression for cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox 2) protein; a slightly intensified band showed at the highest DR concentration, 1.0 mg/ml during the course of culture. From the results, it was concluded that the aqueous extract of DR was found to directly stimulate the proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, protein secretion and particularly type I collagen synthesis of OPC-I at dose-dependent manner.
