  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to enhance the recognition performance of a far and partially occluded three-dimensional (3-D) target in computational curving-effective integral imaging (CEII) by using the direct pixel-mapping (DPM) method. With this scheme, the elemental image array (EIA) originally picked up from a far and partially occluded 3-D target can be converted into a new EIA just like the one virtually picked up from a target located close to the lenslet array. Due to this characteristic of DPM, resolution and quality of the reconstructed target image can be highly enhanced, which results in a significant improvement of recognition performance of a far 3-D object. Experimental results reveal that image quality of the reconstructed target image and object recognition performance of the proposed system have been improved by 1.75 dB and 4.56% on the average in PSNR (peak-to-peak signal-to-noise ratio) and NCC (normalized correlation coefficient), respectively, compared to the conventional system.

  • Curved integral imaging is a simple method to display 3D images in space using lens array and provides wide viewing angle. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear 3D correlator based on the direct pixel-mapping (DPM) method in order to improve the recognition performance of 3D target object in curving-effective integral imaging. With this scheme, the elemental image array (EIA) originally picked up from a partially occluded 3-D target object can be converted into a resolution enhanced new EIA by using DPM method. Then, through nonlinear cross-correlations between the reconstructed reference and the target plane images, the improved pattern recognition can be performed from the correlation outputs. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, some preliminary experiments are carried out and results are presented by comparing the conventional method.

  • Recently, as autonomous vehicles and intelligent CCTV are growing more interest, the efficient object detection is essential technique. The DPM(Deformable Part Models) which is basis of this paper have used a typical object system that represents highly variable objects using mixtures of deformable part for object. Although it shows high detection performance by capturing part shape and configuration of object model, but it is limited to use in real application due to the complicated algorithm. In this paper, instead of image feature pyramid that takes up a large amount of computation in one part of the detector, we propose a method to reduce the computation speed by reconstructing a new image feature pyramid that uses adaptive bilinear interpolation of feature maps obtained on a specific image scale. As a result, the detection performance for object was lowered a little by 2.82%, however, the proposed detection method improved the speed performance by 10% in comparison with original DPM.

  • This paper proposes an improved predictive dynamic power management (DPM) scheme and a task scheduling algorithm to reduce unnecessary power consumption in embedded systems. The proposed algorithm performs pre-scheduling to minimize unnecessary power consumption. The proposed predictive DPM utilizes a scheduling library provided by the system to reduce computation overhead. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce power consumption by 22.3% on the average comparing with the LLF algorithm for DPM-enable system scheduling.

  • Adequate ventilation with the proper amount of air to the right place is important factor to achieve a good Indoor air climate. Thus it is of prime importance that the ventilation system is working properly. This requires reliable pressure loss calculation to balance the air flow through duct systems. So a computer program for balancing CAV duct system is developed In this study. The results of CAV duct system is compared with the "Balans" code developed by Larsen from Norway. To obtain the pressure drop characteristics of damper at duct terminal, some experiments are performed using DPM(Dual Pressure Measurement) system. To adjust the resistance of damper, present study suggests that some special diffusers should be designed and damper producers should give the data of air flow vs. pressure drop to the customs when they manufacture the damper. One of the results concludes that the working time can be reduced from several minutes to several seconds per damper in the present experimental site, if the DPM system and the air volume adjusting process are used.

  • Dynamic Programming Matching (DPM) is a mathematical optimization technique for sequentially structured problems, which has, over the years, played a major role in providing primary algorithms in pattern recognition fields. Most practical applications of this method in signature verification have been based on the practical implementational version proposed by Sakoe and Chiba [9], and il usually applied as a case of slope constraint p = 0. We found, in this case, a modified version of DPM by applying a heuristic (forward seeking) implementation is more efficient, offering significantly reduced processing complexity as well as slightly improved verification performance.

  • The development of mathematical problem solving ability and the making(transforming) mathematical problems are consistently emphasized in the mathematics curriculum. However, research on the problem making methods or the analysis of the characteristics of problem making methods itself is not yet active in mathematics education in Korea. In this study, we concretize the method of deductive problem making(DPM) in a different direction from the what-if-not method proposed by Brown & Walter, and present the characteristics and phases of this method. Since in DPM the components of the problem solving process of the initial problem are changed and problems are made by going backwards from the phases of problem solving procedure, so the problem solving process precedes the formulating problem. The DPM is related to the verifying and expanding the results of problem solving in the reflection phase of problem solving. And when a teacher wants to transform or expand an initial problem for practice problems or tests, etc., DPM can be used.

  • Purpose: The C-14 urea breath test (C-14 UBT) is the most specific noninvasive method to detect Helicobacter (H) pylori infection. We investigated if the C-14 UBT can reflect the presence and degree of H. pylori detected by gastroduodenoscopic biopsies (GBx). Materials and methods: One hundred fifty patients (M:F=83:67, age $48.6{\pm}11.2$ yrs) underwent C-14 UBT, rapid urease test (CLO test) and GBx on the same day. For the C-14 UBT, a single breath sample was collected at 10 minutes after ingestion of C-14 urea (137 KBq) capsule and counting was done in a liquid scintillation counter for 1 minute, and the results were classified as positive (${\geq}200dpm$), Intermediate ($50{\sim}199dpm$) or negative (<50 dpm). The results of CLO tests were classified as positive or negative according to color change. The results of GBx on giemsa stain were graded 0 (normal) to 4 (diffuse) according to the distribution of H. pylori by the Wyatt method. We compared C-14 UBT results with GBx grade as a gold standard. Results: In the assessment of the presence of H. pylori infection, the C-14 UBT global performance yielded sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and accuracy of 92.5%, 88.4%, 97.1%, 88.4% and 91.3%, respectively. However, the CLO test had sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV and accuracy of 83.2%, 81.4%, 91.8%, 81.4% and 82.7%, respectively. The quantitative values of the C-14 UBT were $45{\pm}27$ dpm in grade 0, $707{\pm}584dpm$ in grade 1, $1558{\pm}584dpm$ in grade 2, $1851{\pm}604dpm$ in grade 3, and $2719{\pm}892dpm$ in grade 4. A significant correlation (r=0.848, p<0.01) was found between C-14 UBT and the grade of distribution of H. pylori infection on GBx with giemsa stain. Conclusion: We conclude that the C-14 UBT is a highly accurate, simple and noninvasive method for the diagnosis of ongoing H. pylori infection and reflects the degree of bacterial distribution.

  • Recently, mobile embedded systems used widly in various applications. Managing power consumption is becoming a matter of primary concern because those systems use limited power supply. As an approach reduce power consumption, voltage can be scaled down. according to the execution time and deadline. By reducing the supplying voltage to 1/N power consumption can be reduced to 1/N. DPM-S is a well known method for dynamic voltage scaling. In this paper, we enhanced DPM-S by using average execution time aggressively. The frequency of processor is calculated based in average execution time instead of worst case execution time. Simulation results show that our method achieve up to 5% energy savings than DPM-S.
