This study is to investigate biochemical compositions of two species of marine microalgae, Chlorella ellipsoidea of Chlorophyta and Tetraselmis suecica of Prasinophyta, and to assess their potential antimicrobial activities. Crude protein, lipid and carbohydrate for C. ellipsoidea were $43.15\%$, $12.63\%$ and $13.09\%$, respectively, and those for T. suecica were $44.95\%$, $4.80\%$ and $24.05\%$, respectively. The major amino acids of the two micro algae were aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, lysine and proline, and no significant difference between the amino acid compositions of both micro algae was observed. The major sugars for both microalgae were glucose, galactose and mannose, and glucose contents showed the highest level, $58.70\%$ for C. ellipsoidea and$57.86\%$ for T. suecica. The major mineral contents of both micro algae for 100g were Ca (3,114mg in C. ellipoidea and 3,389mg in T. suecica) and followed by Na (2,881mg), K (548mg) and Mg (545mg) for C. ellipsoidea and Na (1,832 mg), Mg (1,510mg) and K (548mg) for T. suecica. In the content of ATP-related compound, hypoxanthine in C. ellipsoidea and IMP in T. suecica were absolutely dominant compounds. The highest content of fatty acid in C. ellipsoidea was 20:4, $27.15\%$ and that in T. suecica was 18:3 (w-6), $18.10\%$. In case of physiologically important polyunsaturated fatty acids like eicosapentaenoic acid (20: 5) and docosahexaenoic acid (22: 6), both microalgae possessed just trace amounts but was rich in arachidonic acid (20: 4). Vitamin content in both microalgae was significantly high in choline and inositol. In antimicrobial activity by water- and fat-soluble fraction of the micro algae, hexane extract in the fat-soluble fraction of C. elliposidea inhibited the growth of Bacillus subtilis by $96\%$ bactericidal activity and tetrachlorocarbon extract of T. suecica indicated relatively excellent antimicrobial activity $(81\%\;bactericidal\;activity)$ against Escherichia coli. Hot water extract among water-soluble fraction of both micro algae almost suppressed the growth of Staphylococcus aureus by $96\%$ bactericidal activity.
The purpose of this study was to research the vegetation structure of the Bongamsa Forest Genetic Resourses Resreve Area in Mt. Heuyang, Mungyeong, Gyeongsangbuk-do. For doing this, ninety-two plots($100m^2/plot$) were set up and investigated, and then Classification analysis and Ordination analysis were carried out. As a result, the vegetation of this area is divided to nine communities; Quercus mongolica community, Quercus variabilis community, Pinus densiflora community, Pinus densiflora-Quercus serrata community, Pinus densiflora-Quercus mongolica community, Quercus serrata community, Decideous broad leaf community, Pinus koraiensis community, Larix kaempferi community. To compare between the communities, statistical analyses were conducted with topographical condition and the results of the vegetational investigation of each community. In altitude, slope, the number of species, the number of individuals in canopy and the number of individuals of understory layer, the mean averages among the communities were different in statistically significance. Then we analysed the vegetation community structure with Importance Percentage of each stratum. The oak tree communities were expected to keep or expand the actual communities because oak trees are spread widely in canopy and understory layers. But the pine tree dominant communities were expected to be succeeded to oak tree communities in the future because of the wide expansion of oak trees.
This study was carried out of investigate the effect of weed control methods on the growth of 'campbell early' grape at the vineyards which was divided into the 18 zone ($3.5m{\times}5.5m/zone$) in the grape research institute. It's investigated control effects, growth and quantity of grape and dominant weed of July~August by sprayed glufosinate ammonium and paraquat dichloride each 3 times, fabric covering, grass planting (Festuca myuros), mechanical weeding (3 times). The weed showed total of 16 species at the vineyards. Late-May to early growth stage of grape was dominated Chenopodium album and Trifolium repens, but to late growth stage of grape from mid-July was dominated Erigeron canadensis, Echinochloa crus-galli and Chenopodium album. Weed control effect of 10 day after treatment showed fabric covering 100%, grass planting (Festuca myuros L.) 95.3%, mechanical weeding 81.9%, glufosinate ammonium (3 times) 98.1% and paraquat dichloride (3 times) 90.4%, respectively. Growth of grape was higher herbicides treatment and mechanical weeding than others. Yield tended to be higher glufosinate ammonium (3 times) and paraquat dichloride (3 times) each 12.6 kg/tree, 12.3 kg/tree than others.
This study was conducted to obtain basis information for effective weed control by the fact-finding survey of herbicides use at farmer's level and distribution of herbicide resistant weeds in paddy field of Jeonbuk province, Korea. The distributions of major paddy field weeds and frequently used herbicide according to the survey were as follows. The dominant weeds in rice paddy field were Echinochloa crus-galli, Eleocharis kuroguwai, Scirpus juncoides, Monochoria vaginalis, etc.. Preferred herbicides widely used by farmers were ranked in the following order, early and middle treatment (48.0%), treatment before transplanting (36.7%) and foliar treatment (15.3%). The occurrence of herbicide-resistant weeds according to collected paddy soils was as follows. The occurring area of herbicide-resistant weeds was 24,413 ha, approximately 18.4% of rice cultivation area. Herbicide-resistant weeds were occurred in four species. The order of occurrence were Scirpus juncoides (39.0%) > Monochoria vaginalis (27.8%) > Echinochloa crus-galli (16.6%) and Cyperus difformis (16.6%). This information could be useful for estimation of future herbicide-resistant weed and establishment of herbicide-resistant weed control methods in Jeonbuk province, Korea.
In this study, gut bacterial communities in xylophagous insects were analyzed using the pyrosequencing of 16S rRNA genes for their potential biotechnological applications in lignocelluloses degradation. The result showed that operational taxonomic units (OTUs), species richness and diversity index were higher in the hindgut than in the midgut of all insect samples analyzed. The dominant phyla or classes were Firmicutes (54.0%), Bacteroidetes (14.5%), ${\gamma}-Proteobacteria$ (12.3%) in all xylophagous insects except for Rhinotermitidae. The principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) showed that the bacterial community structure mostly clustered according to phylogeny of hosts rather than their habitats. In our study, the two carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)-degrading isolates which showed the highest enzyme activity were most closely related to Bacillus toyonensis $BCT-7112^T$ and Lactococcus lactis subsp. hordniae $NCDO\;2181^T$, respectively. Cellulolytic enzyme activity analysis showed that ${\beta}-1,4-glucosidase$, ${\beta}-1,4-endoglucanase$ and ${\beta}-1,4-xylanase$ were higher in the hindgut of Cerambycidae. The results demonstrate that xylophagous insect guts harbor diverse gut bacteria, including valuable cellulolytic bacteria, which could be used for various biotechnological applications.
In order to characterize the habitat trait and vegetation structure of M. chejuense(Ophioglssaceae), endangered plant in Korea, we set 12 permanent quadrats in Jocheon-Sunhyul Gotzawal Wetland Region of Jeju Island, and surveyed the temporal pools, vegetation structure and counted the population size of the endemic rare plant. M. chejuense distributed in the vernal pools with a variety of shape, area of 150-$400m^2$, depth of 0.4-2.0m and slope of 3-$10^{\circ}$, at altitude of 88-165m in lowland area in Gotjawal Wetland Region, Jeju Island. The soil has a thin layer and high water content all the seasons. The population appeared with a density range of 1-423/pool in the boundary area of the wetlands under higher tree coverages(80-100%) in the deciduous forest communities. Vegetation wsa classified into five plant communities such as Ulmus parvifolia community, Cudrania tricuspidata community, Rosa multiflora community, Ardisia japonica community, Ophiopogon japonicus community. These results means that M. chejuense potentially has a shortage to evergreen plant succession, litter accumulation and water drainage, thus it is need to sustainable wetland environmental condition in the deciduous forest community for its sounded conservation.
It is increasing to make an efforts on preventing natural river environment and preserving natural river ecosystem as development is unavoidable. In the case of inconsistent river flow caused by reservoir development, fishway is an alternative to secure fish diversity and preserve existing river ecosystem but existing fishway was established without full study for their functions. In this study, hydraulic characteristics of natural fishway established on Beakje weir's right side were analyzed. The results show that the fishway has reasonable depth and velocity condition which inhabit condition is enough for a dominant species. For assessing the optimal design of fishway, the Weighted Usable Area (WUA) was calculated by using two dimensional numerical model under the ordinary flow condition. The comparison results for various pool widths in the fishway show that the designed width has maximum WUA for adult Zacco platypus but WUA is maximized with 1m wider pool width than designed width for spawning.

The germination period, the germination under different saline concentration and temperature condition, the survival percent several halophytes in cross-transplanting experiment of marsh type and the soil environment factor of five dominant species were investigated on the halophytes population formation strategies on the salt marsh of Mankyeong river estuary from February to October 2005. In terms of germination, Suaeda japonica appeared first followed by Aster tyipolium Salicornia herbacda, Atriplex gmelini and Suaeda asparagoides. The germination percent on the humidify conditions and saline concentrations of halophytes were that Suaeda japonica germinated well under inundation conditions, high temperature and low salinity; Salicornia herbacda under high salinity; Aster tripolium and Atriplex gmelini under dry or inundation conditions, and Suaeda aspar agoides under dry conditions and high salinity. The survival percent in cross-transplanting experiment of five halophytes were high with Suaeda japonica in the low marsh; Salicornia herbacda, Aster tripolium and Atriplex gmelini in the mid marsh, Suaeda asparagoides in the high marsh. The soil properties were similar for the five halophytes, but soil texture appeared high in order of silt, sand and clay. These results suggested that population formation strategies of five halphytes. Suaeda iaponica was distributed in the low tidal marsh, Salicornia herbacda, Aster tripolium, Atriplex gmelini in the mid tidal marsh and Suaeda asparagoides in the high tidal marsh.
The fisheries resources of the set net fishery on four fishing grounds (Pyuong Dae, Gu Eum, Du Moah, Gang Jeong) in coastal waters of Jeju Island were studied to the determine catch-variation characteristics from January, 1998 to December, 1999. A total catch of 153,862 kg was made through the survey period. The large total was related mainly to the high catch of Trachurus japonicus, which comprised 58.2% of the total. Other dominant species which account for 23.0% of the total catch were Siganus fuscescens, Todarodes pacificus, Loligo chinesis, Seriola lalandi, Sepioteuthis lessoniana, and Seriola quinqueradiata. Catch density was high in Gu Eum (more than 100,000 kg), whereas those in Pyuong Dae, Du Moah, and Gang Jeong were less than 30,000 kg in total. The fishing period of the set net fishery was from April to December, which was also closely related to the variation of the sea water temperature in the fishing grounds. The ranges of water temperature in the four fishing grounds were $18{\sim}26^{\circ}C$ in Pyuong Dae, $16{\sim}26^{\circ}C$ in Du Moah, $15{\sim}26^{\circ}C$ in Gu Eum, and $15{\sim}26^{\circ}C$ in Gang Jeong.
A mcyB-specific Ultra-Rapid quantitative PCR was developed for the quantitative detection of Microcystis aeruginosa, which is often a dominant species in green tide. McyB-specific UR-qPCR was optimized under extremely short times of each step in thermal cycles, based on the specific primers deduced from the mcyB in microcystin synthetase of M. aeruginosa. The M. aeruginosa strain KG07 was used as a standard for quantification, after the microscopic counting and calculation by mcyB-specific UR-qPCR. The water samples from the river water with the Microcystis outbreak were also measured by using both methods. The $1.0{\times}10^8$ molecules of mcyB-specific DNA was recognized inner 4 minutes after beginning of UR-qPCR, while $1.0{\times}10^4$ molecules of mcyB-specific templates was detected inner 7 minutes with quantitative manner. From the range of $1.0{\times}10^2$ to $1.0{\times}10^8$ initial molecules, quantification was well established based on $C_T$ using mcyB-specific UR-qPCR (Regression coefficiency, $R^2=0.9977$). Between the numbers of M. aeruginosa cell counting under microscope and calculated numbers using mcyB-specific UR-qPCR, some differences were often found. The reasons for these differences were discussed; therefore, easy compensation method was proposed that was dependent on the numbers of the cell counting. Additionally, to easily extract the genomic DNA (gDNA) from the samples, a freeze-fracturing of water-sample using liquid nitrogen was tested, by excluding the conventional gDNA extraction method. It was also verified that there were no significant differences using the UR-qPCR with both gDNAs. In conclusion, the mcyB-specific UR-qPCR that we proposed would be expected to be a useful tool for rapid quantification and easy monitoring of M. aeruginosa in environmental water.
