The aim of this paper is to give a rigorous framework for the interpretation of limit analysis results including large displacements. The presentation is oriented towards unidimensional media (beams) but two-dimensional (plates) or three-dimensional media are also concerned. A single-degree-of-freedom system is first considered: it shows the basic phenomena of large displacement limit analysis or second-order limit analysis. The results are compared to those of a continuous system and the differences between both systems are discussed. Theoretical results are obtained using the kinematical approach of limit analysis. An admissible load-displacement plane is then defined, according to the yield design theory. The methodology used is applied to frame structures. The presented results are nevertheless different from those already published in the literature, as the virtual displacement field can be distinguished from the displacement field at collapse. The simplicity of large displacement limit analysis makes it attractive for practical engineering applications. The load-displacement upper bound can be used for instance in the optimal design of steel frames in seismic areas.
This study is a suggest a measurement method of lateral displacement, which can be used to judge the stability of bridge abutment on soil undergoing lateral movement. The abutment of bridge on soft foundation makes lateral movement due to the settlement of back fill and lateral flow. To measure the displacement of such a abutment, there are a lot of indirect method for measurement such as survey of leveling or inclinometer gauge around the abutment. But all of them are not sufficient to confirm the ground behavior and measure the exact lateral behavior of structure. As making the structure and pile cooperatively by measuring the movement of lateral displacement, for measuring the abutment displacement precisely by using the inclinometer. In this work, we try to suggest efficient measuring method of abutment displacement and its application.
Since the magnetic bearing system has unstability inherently it is necessary to measure the displacement for stable operation. Normally the displacement measurement is implemented by using sensors. The sensor for the displacement measurement is selected by precision, installation space, effect of magnetic field and response speed. And the cost of displacement measurement sensor also is considered. At the cost the hall effect sensor has a large advantage comparing with the others. Therefore this study concern about the basis experimental test for the displacement measurement of the magnetic bearing system that uses the hall effect sensor coupled with a tiny permanent magnet. The experimental results confirm the validity and practicability for this displacement measurement sensor.
Micro former has been known as a useful tool for machining micro parts. It makes micro holes automatically with punches, a hole-shape die and material by rotation of crank shaft synchronously. Micro displacement in micro forming affects on the performance of machining because micro forming size is similar with its mechanical displacement. Therefore, the measurement of this micro displacement is essential to be guaranteed to obtain high forming precision in the whole machine as well as its devices. This paper addresses the development of a laser interferometer to measure micro displacement for a micro former. The laser interferometer is able to measure micro displacement during a few micro seconds with non-contact. For the experiment, a laser probe is installed on the optical table with optical devices and a micro displacement generating device. The velocity decoding board is also added to calculate doppler shift frequency directly. Finally simple experiments are conducted to confirm its functional operation.
It is hard and complex to analytically derive a volumetric displacement formula of a gerotor hydraulic motor because geometric shape of its rotors is complicate. An analytical method about the volumetric displacement is proposed in this work, which is relatively easy and based upon two physical concepts. The first one is energy conservation between hydraulic input energy of the motor and mechanical output energy. The second concept is torque equilibrium with respect to inner and outer rotors. The proposed formula about the volumetric displacement is verified by comparing an analytical displacement and a numerical displacement for an example specification of the motor. The numerical displacement is calculated through a kind of CAD technology. The analytical formula can be utilized in analysis and design of hydraulic gerotor motors.
This paper is a study on a linear ultrasonic motor with a first longitudinal$(L_1)$ and fourth bending $(B_4)$ double-mode rectangular plate. The stator vibrator is composed of an elastic material plate and of a piezo-ceramic element having a motion by electrical excitation. Each strain vector differs by $90^{\circ}$ generate travelling wave with the elliptical displacement motion of a point on the surface. To magnify displacement of longitudinal direction in elliptical displacement motion, the motor has a mechanism of the.displacement enlargement. In this paper, the vibration shape of the stator is simulated using the finite element method. A detailed model considered of the piezoelectric effect and of the exact geometry of the stator is used to calculate the displacement. The position of displacement mechanism is decided by the maximum displacement.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the normal range of condylar displacement of normal adults. The author has observed two roentgenographic images of condylar head taken by transcranial projection. Two roentgenographic images are centric occlusion and centric relation. The results were obtained as follow: 1. Total subjects are 72 condyles. The condylar displacement from centric relation to centric occlusion was shown in 65 condyles (90%) anteriorly. 59 condyles (82%) inferiorly. Two condyles (3%) showed neither anterior displacement nor inferior displacement. 2. The average displacement of right condyles was 0.54±0.06㎜ anteriorly, 0.34±0.05㎜ inferiorly. The average displacement of left condyles was 0.74±0.09㎜ anteriorly, 0.45±0.05㎜ inferiorly. 3. The subjects of synmetrical displacement are 7 cases (20%) anteriorly, 2 cases (6%) inferiorly.

As the residual displacement and/or drift demands are commonly used for seismic assessment of buildings, the estimation of these values play a very critical role through earthquake design philosophy. The residual displacement estimation of fixed base structures has been the topic of numerous researches up to now, but the effect of soil flexibility is almost always omitted. In this study, residual displacement demands are investigated for SDOF systems with period range of 0.1-3.0 s for near-field and far-field ground motions for both fixed and interacting cases. The elastoplastic model is used to represent non-degrading structures. Based on time history analyses, a new simple yet effective equation is proposed for residual displacement demand of any system whether fixed base or interacting as a function of structural period, lateral strength ratio and spectral displacement.
The purposes of the study were (1) to see if there are various types of disc configuration in normal temporomandibular joint and, if so, (2) to examine whether a specific type of disc configuration is susceptible to disc displacement, and (3) to see if a specific type of disc configuration and position is related to early relief of clinical symptoms from the anterior disc displacement without reduction to conservative treatment. From the magnetic resonance (MR) images taken for the patients with symptoms of temporomandibular disorders, 235 images as normal joint group, 255 images as anterior disc displacement with reduction group, and 249 images as anterior disc displacement without reduction group were selected, After the TMJ image was scanned and processed with Photoshop program, the disc configuration was determined, The incidence of various types of disc configuration was analyzed according to age, sex, diagnostic group, and the promptness of symptom relief. The disc position was also examined in relation to the promptness of symptom relief. The results were as follows : 1. In the normal joint group, biconcave type appeared most frequently and reversed, biplanar type in order, Posterior band enlarged and folded type didn't appear at all. On the other hand, in the anterior disc displacement without reduction group, folded type appeared most frequently and also posterior band enlarged type were found often. 2. There were statistically significant differences between sex and configuration of disc in the normal joint group and no statistically significant differences in the anterior disc displacement with reduction group and anterior disc displacement without reduction group, 3. There were no statistically significant differences between age and configuration of disc in the normal, anterior disc displacement with reduction group and anterior disc displacement without reduction group. 4. In anterior disc displacement without reduction group, rapid response was observed in biconcave and reversed type and delayed response was observed in folded type.
