The Ultrasonic Nanocrystal Surface Modification (UNSM) technology improves the fatigue life of a torsion bar by inducing compressive residual stress on the surface layer. The UNSM is applied to replace the presetting method and shot peening technology. The torsion bar must be changed periodically because of a lack of durability and a phenomenon related to the stress relaxation. The torsion fatigue test specimens were made of DIN17221 material, and the results showed that the fatigue life was 5 times more than under durability test conditions. A comparison test between the commercial vehicles' presetting method and shot peened torsion bar and the UNSM torsion bar showed that the UNSM could replace the presetting method and shot peening.
Recently the steel parts used in automobiles are required to be used under high stress more than ever before due to the need of keeping the weight down. To achieve this requirement of the high strength steel, it must be necessary to decrease inclusion contents and surface defects as like decarburization, surface roughness etc. In this study, the surface conditions are measured to know the influence on fatigue properties by two cases of two-stage shot peening and single-stage shot peening. And for this study, three kinds of spring steel (JISG408l-SUP7, SAE 9254 and DIN 50CrV4) are shaped. This study shows the outstanding improvement of fatigue properties at the case of two-stage shot peening in the rotating bending fatigue test and it results from (1) decreasing the surface roughness (2) unchanging the surface hardness (3) increasing the compressive residual stress. Moreover, results also show fatigue failures originated at the inclusion near the surface, and this inclusion type is turned out to be an alumina of high hardness.
To explore limiting factors of spring bloom caused by waste disposal after dumping activity commenced in the Yellow Sea, we used a 1-dimensional temperature-ecological coupled model. The vertical structure of temperature and vertical diffusivity (Kh) are calculated by the temperature model with sea surface temperature using the 2.5 layers turbulence closure scheme. The ecological model applied results at the temperature model consisted of five state variables (DIN, DIP, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and detritus) forced by photosynthetically available radiation. We simulate year-to-year variations of plankton and nutrients using the coupled model from 1998 to 2000 and compare results of the model with observed data. It turned out that temperature is the growth factor of spring bloom in dumping area. During the winter the weak stratification made sufficient supply of the accumulated nutrients from the sea bed into the upper water column and led to the bloom in the coming spring. Radiation also turned out to be another important factor of spring bloom in the study area. Insufficient radiation of March 1999 showed low chlorophyll-a concentration despite sufficient nutrients in the surface.
Purpose: The ramp is an important facility for the barrier free access and vertical circulation of users of various buildings, including users of walker, wheelchair users, stroller users, and baggage carriers. The installation standards for ramps in Korea have various problems during construction and BF certification. It is necessary to improve the criteria for ensuring practical mobility and safety. Method: Korean standard, International Standard(ISO 21542, 2011), German Standard(DIN 18040-1, 2010), Austrian Standard(OENORM B 1600, 2017), Swiss Standard(Norm SIA 500, 2009), Canadian Standard(Building Standards Guide, 2017), American Standard(ADA Standards, 2010) were investigated and analyzed. A comprehensive improvement of the ramp installation standards is proposed. Results: The ramp is a necessary facility for the barrier free access and vertical circulation of the disabled. It shall be installed with comprehensive consideration of the appropriate slope of the ramp, the distance of the continuous slope, the handle and upstand for pedestrian safety. In order to improve convenience, setting the proper slope and limiting the length of the slope are very important, and improvements are required to the levels presented by international and foreign standards. The unclear standards of Korean law and BF certification standards should be clearly improved so as not to be misinterpreted in construction and Barrier Free Certification. Implication: International and foreign standards should be reviewed to ensure practical mobility and safety. And comprehensive improvement measures should be presented through continuous research.
Six new serovarieties of B. thuringiensis carrying specific H-antigen have minor differences in biochemical characteristics and morphological characteristics of crystals, which are commonly resistant against four antibiotics. The B. thuringiensis serovar. coreanensis is nontoxic to silkworm larvae, but it is moderately toxic against the Culex pipiens larvae. The B. thuringiensis serovar. konkukian and leesis are nontoxic against mosquitos larvae, but are toxic against silkworm larvae. The B. thuringiensis serovar. seoulensis, sooncheon, and yosoo are highly toxic to B. mori larvae and moderately toxic to C. pipiens larvae. The six serovarieties harbor different plasmid DNA patterns. A 102-kDa protein is a major crystal protein in the four serovarieties and a 86-kDa protein is in one serovariety.
The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of a wireless transceiver that can be inserted into the ear canal. The wireless technology could minimize the cosmetic problems of patients, and it can be applied to binaural hearing aids for improving speech perception. In order to implement the ear canal insertable transceiver, simple finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations were carried out to determine the feasibility, and the hardware of the transceiver was implemented within the ear shell. The size of the implemented transceiver was only $7{\times}7mm$, and it could successfully transmit signals to external devices. In order to measure the radiation pattern, a simple RF phantom was used, and the maximum attenuation from the phantom was observed to be 23 dB when the reference antenna was placed at a distance of 2 m from the transmitter.
To examine the method for preservation of papers, 9 kinds of papers were purchased and pretreated for 6 months with various artificial conditions which were controlled as 3 temperature classes($20^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$, $-20^{\circ}C$&$20^{\circ}C$) and 4 humidity classes(40%, 60%, 80%, 100%).Whiteness, acidity and folding endurance were measured to examine the state of papers pretreated under each condition. From the resultexamining the state, all the papers were best condition at low temperature($20^{\circ}C$) and low humidity(40%) and damaged at high temperature($80^{\circ}C$) and high humidity(100%).The values of whiteness, acidity, and folding endurance were measure din relation with deterioration of papers. According to damage of papers caused by the chemical agent, papers became to be acidic, increased color difference and reduced the force of folding endurance. The effect of change of temperature($-20^{\circ}C$&$20^{\circ}C$) on degradation of papers was not well acquired. Because the period of investigation was not long enough to acquire the data. So the more studies are needed to find the cause of damage of papers.

The modern development in design of airships and aerostats has led to unconventional configurations quite different from the classical ellipsoidal and spherical ones. This new class of air-vehicles presents a mass-to-volume ratio that can be considered very similar to the density of the fluid displaced by the vehicle itself, and as a consequence, modeling and simulation should consider the added masses in the equations of motion. The concept of added masses deals with the inertia added to a system, since an accelerating or decelerating body moving into a fluid displaces a volume of the neighboring fluid. The aim of this paper is to provide designers with the added masses matrix for more than twenty Lighter Than Air vehicles with unconventional shapes. Starting from a CAD model of a given shape, by applying a panel-like method, its external surface is properly meshed, using triangular elements. The methodology has been validated by comparing results obtained with data available in literature for a known benchmark shape, and the inaccuracies of predictions agree with the typical precision required in conceptual design. For each configuration, a CAD model and a related added masses matrix are provided, with the purpose of assisting the practitioner in the design and flight simulation of modern airships and scientific balloons.
The objective okgf this study is understanding and evaluation of temporal and spatial variation of pollutant loads by input sources for water quality management in Kamak Bay. Flow rate of rivers and ditches ranges from about $2,592-63,072m^3/d$ in October to $864-55,296m^3/d$ in January. In particular, the R2 predominated flow rate among input sources. Total COD, BOD, DIN and DIP loadings in January were about 896kg/d, 718kg/d, 2,152kg/d, and 154kg/d, respectively, which exceeded those of October. Lower POC/TOC levels are estimated in R2, and also in October. Temporal variation of pollutant loads were closely related to the human activity. Total discharging loadings of BOD, TN and TP by unit loading estimation were 4,993.0kg/d, 2,558.7kg/d, and 289.2kg/d, respectively, and were mainly affected by the population. Runoff ratio of BOD was about 0.14 in January Mean $NH_4^+_-N$ and $PO_4\;^{3-}-P$ loadings from sediment were 16.23mg/$m^2$/d and 7.26mg/$m^2$/d, respectively. For the improvement of water quality in this area, not only pollutant loads of rivers and ditches but also benthic flux from sediment should be reduced within the limits of the environmental capacity.
Temperature, salinity, COD, DIN (Dissolved Inorganic Nitrogen), DIP (Dissolved Inorganic Phosphorus), and Chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ obtained from the southern coastal waters during the period of 2003 to 2005 were analyzed. Variability in temperature was not found between groups in southern coastal waters, but significantly different depending on sampling sites (p<0.05). The average temperature in 2003 estimated at $18.33^{\circ}C$ that was annually increased by 2005 and significantly different based on statistics (p<0.05). Unlikely to temperature, salinity was significantly different depending on sampling sites, as well as monthly variations (p<0.05). Likewise to temperature, the value of salinity was annually increased. COD estimated at the average of $>1.7\;mg\;l^{-1}$ for three years, indicating optimal water quality. The fluctuations of nutrients were extremely shown in different sampling sites and monthly variations. Chlorophyll a recorded above $2.0{\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ which was associated with high primary phytoplankton, whereas it showed much fluctuations in temporal and spatial, In particular, Tongyong, Jaranman, Jinjuman, and Samcheonpo located in the southeast were the highest fluctuations in water quality than any other regions. The correlation between salinity/COD and nutrients/chlorophyll a was strongly negative or positive, which was possibly associated with much the introduction of run-off water as well as rainfall in summer.
