  • Recently, there are many researches for P2P network. P2P network technologies are a good solution about making a wide spread distributed computing in the internet environment. The recent algorithms developed by several research groups for the lookup problem present a simple and general interface, a distributed hash table (DHT). In this paper, we also introduce new schemes that enhance the available rate of an object in the MagicSquare network. Replication scheme is to replicate an object with many replicas and save them to several nodes. Fragmentation scheme is to divide an object into several fragments and save them to several nodes. Replicated Fragmentation scheme is to mix replication scheme and fragmentation scheme. We will show result of simulation for our the proposed scheme.

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common disease in elderly males, is accompanied by non-malignant growth of prostate tissues, subsequently causing hypoxia and angiogenesis. Although VEGF-related angiogenesis is one of the therapeutic targets of prostate cancer, there is no previous study targeting angiogenesis for treatment of BPH. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-induced expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in prostate epithelial RWPE-1 cells and human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs). Conditioned media (CM) from DHT-treated RWPE-1 cells were transferred to HUVECs. Then, 6SL inhibited proliferation, VEGFR-2 activation, and tube formation of HUVECs transferred with CM from DHT-treated RWPE-1 cells. In the rat BPH model, 6SL reduced prostate weight, size, and thickness of the prostate tissue. Formation of vessels in prostatic tissues were also reduced with 6SL treatment. We found that 6SL has an ameliorative effect on in vitro and in vivo the BPH model via inhibition of VEGFR-2 activation and subsequent angiogenesis. These results suggest that 6SL might be a candidate for development of novel BPH drugs.

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is commonly found in aging men, is characterized by hyperplasia of prostatic stromal and epithelial cells beginning in the periurethral zone of the prostate. The prevalence of BPH increases in an age-dependent manner. Here, we investigated the protective effects of unripe Rubus occidentalis extracts (UROE) on BPH development using a prostate cancer cell line and testosterone-induced BPH rat model. Experiments using an established hormone-dependent prostate cancer cell line (LNCaP) showed that UROE treatment significantly decreased expression of androgen-related genes, including androgen receptor (AR), prostate specific antigen (PSA), and 5-alpha reductase 2, but not 5-alpha reductase 1, which was also observed in flutamide-treated cells. Further, AR and PSA gene expression was reduced by UROE treatment under androgen-stimulated conditions using dihydrotestosterone (DHT). BPH animals displayed elevated prostate weights. However, UROE as well as finasteride treatment significantly reduced prostate weights and DHT levels compared to testosterone-induced BPH animals. Histopathological analysis also showed that UROE treatment suppressed testosterone-induced prostatic hyperplasia. Taken together, the results suggest that UROE may effectively inhibit the development of BPH and thus may be a useful agent in BPH treatment.

  • The purpose of this study was to screen the testosterone-like activities of eight oriental medicines with an in vitro testosterone compound detection (TCD) system. Distilled water and 80% ethanol, both at 80℃, were used to obtain extracts from Cervus nippon temminck (Nokgaksang), Cynanchum wilfordii (Baeksuo), Lespedeza cuneata (Yagwanmun), Panax ginseng (Hongsam), Smilax china (Toryeong), Taraxacum platycarpum (Mindlre), Tribulus terresteis (Namgase), and Trigonella foenum-graecum (Horopa), and extracts at concentrations of 5, 50, and 500 ㎍/ml were assessed using the TCD system. The testosterone-like activities of the 80% ethanol extracts were seen to increase with concentration and ranged from 0.9 to 5.0 times higher than those of the negative control; Horopa and Yagwanmun exhibited superior testosterone-like activities, followed by Mindlre and Hongsam at the same concentration. Toryeong and Namgase, on the other hand, showed low activity with Nokgaksang and Baeksuo exhibiting very low levels. Compared with the activities of the positive control (5α-DHT), the 80% ethanol extracts of Horopa and Yagwanmun at a concentration of 500 ㎍/ml showed higher testosterone-like activities than 10-8 M 5α-DHT. The water extracts showed lower activity levels than the ethanol samples, and the change of activity with concentration was also lower. It was confirmed that the 80% ethanol extracts of Horopa, Yagwanmun, and Mindlre etc. enhance the transcription efficiency of testosterone-related genes and may therefore be useful in developing health food or medicinal treatments for the improvement of male menopausal symptoms.

  • A content based pub/sub (Publish/subscribe) services at the peer-to-peer network has the requirements about how to distribute contents information of subscriber and to delivery the events efficiently. For satisfying the requirements, a DHT(Distributed Hash Table) based pub/sub overlay networking and tree type topology based network construction using filter technique have been proposed. The DHT based technique is suitable for topic based pub/sub service but it's not good contents based service that has the variable requirements. And also filter based tree topology networking is not efficient at the environment where the user requirements are distributed. In this paper we propose the R-Tree algorithm based pub/sub overlay network construction method. The proposed scheme provides cost effective event delivery method by mapping user requirement to multi-dimension and hierarchical grouping of the requirements. It is verified by simulation at the variable environment of user requirements and events.

  • Tenebrio molitor samples were investigated as novel biomaterials and sources of food in several recent studies. However, the insects' effects on hair growth were not sufficiently researched. To develop novel and natural materials for preventing alopecia and promoting hair growth, this study investigated the antioxidant activities and hair-growth promotion effects of TMEs. To determine the antioxidant activities, the TMEs' DPPH radical- and nitrite-scavenging activities were examined. To determine hair-growth promotion effects, proliferations of human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) and the murine fibroblast cell line NIH3T3 were evaluated by using an MTS assay. In addition, estimations were made for cell viabilities against cell death induced by dihydrotesterone (DHT) in DPCs and inhibitory effects against potassium channel blocking induced by tolbutamide (TBM) in NIH3T3 cells. The DPPH radical scavenging activity was 81.17%, and the nitrite scavenging activity was 43.69%; the activities were similar to the activities of blueberry extracts. Moreover, the TMEs promoted the proliferation of human DPCs and NIH3T3 cells, which were concentrated dependently. The TMEs prevented not only DHT-induced DPC cytotoxicity but also TBM's action as a potassium channel blocker in NIH3T3 cells. The results suggested that TME could be used as a functional therapeutic alopecia reagent, to prevent hair loss and to promote hair growth.

  • This study was designed to investigate the microglial reactions to the neurodegenerative changes in the cat retina. All experiments were performed using adult cats of both sex, weighing $2,500g\sim3,500g$. 5,7-DHT $(100{\mu}g)$ dissolved in 0.1% ascorbic acid was injected into the vitreous body. All injections were performed in one-side eye; the other side served as the control, which was injected only with 0.1% ascorbic acid. Cats were sacrificed at 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after intravitreal injection of 5,7-DHT For light microscopy, retinae were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and processed using NDPase histochemistry. Same retinae were fixed with 1% para(formaldehyde-2.5% glutaraldehyde and processed for electron microscopy. NDPase-positive microglial cells were mainly distributed in the inner plexiform layer of the retina, and characterized by a small somata with a few slender processes, which were also extended in the ganglion cell layer (GCL) and inner nuclear layer (INL). The intensity of the microglia stained for NDPase was abruptly increased at 7 day as compared with that of the control, and thereafter continuously sustained until 21 day, the last experimental group in this study. Under the electron microscopical observation, microglial cells in the control group exhibited elongate nucleus with perinuclear chromatin condensation, and the perikaryon was scanty. However, a few hypertrophic glial cells were frequently found at 3 days after the drug injection. By 7 day, most microglial cells directed toward the degenerated neurons in the GCL, and the number of microglial cells was slightly increased as compared with the former group. At the 14 day, most microglial cells wrapped the degenerated cells in the GCL, and a few cells showed phagocytotic features. By 21 day, most microglial cells were engaged in phagocytotic activity, and their cytoplasm was filled with the phagorytosed material. Based on the results, 5,7-DHT may act as a specific neurotoxin to the cat retina, and microglial reactions to the neuronal death are already induced in early experimental stage. These results indicate that the microglial cells in the cat retina show characteristic features as a protective effect of neural tissue.

  • An IP address is used as a host identifier and a locator to bind hosts and applications to their location in existing Internet. Several protocols are proposed to eliminate this binding. Most of these protocols use IPv6-based host identifiers to maintain compatibility with existing Internet, but these identifiers cannot be handled by standard IPv6 routers because such identifiers are unroutable. Therefore, host identifiers need to be usually converted to locators at hosts, and the standard IPv6 protocol should be modified to interoperate with these protocols. In this paper, we propose a network-based host identifier locator separating scheme in software-defined networking. The proposed scheme separates the underlying network into Host Identity and IP domains in order to directly forward unroutable identifiers. The Host Identity domain operates as an overlaid network over IP domain, and it makes the unroutable identifiers to be routable using distributed hash table based routing strategy. For the evaluation, we compared the proposed scheme with the previous scheme using signaling costs and packet delivery costs. The result shows that the proposed scheme is more suitable in the recent mobile-based environments.

  • Houttuynia cordata Thunberg has been studied for a variety of pharmacological actions in traditional oriental medicine. In this study, we investigated the effects of Houttuynia cordata ethanol extract (HCE) on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) models induced by castration and testosterone propionate (TP) injection. Thirty rats were divided into six groups. One group was used as a normal control, and the other groups were castrated and had intraperitoneal injections of TP for 14 days to induce BPH. A positive control group was given daily doses of finasteride (5 mg/kg) to the BPH model. Rats administered HCE (0.5, 1 or 2 mg/kg) instead of finasteride were compared with controls as experimental groups. There was no statistical significance in terms of prostate weight based on 100 g of body weight. The concentrations of 5-α reductase and dehydroxytestosteronre (DHT) were determined via ELISA tests, and there was a significant decrease in all experimental groups. The 0.5 mg/kg HCE group had the lowest level of 5-α reductase, and the 2 mg/kg HCE group had the lowest level of DHT. In the histopathological observation of prostates, the control and the 2 mg/kg HCE groups had normal cell shapes and no swelling. However, in the negative control group and the 1 mg/kg HCE group, the cells were swollen, and the gap between the cells was narrowed. In particular, in the 0.5 mg/kg HCE group, some cells were bursting. Therefore, the administration of more than 2 mg/kg of HCE is suitable to protect against BPH.

  • Many peer-to-peer (p2p) systems have been studied in distributed, ubiquitous computing environments. Distributed hash table (DHT)-based p2p systems can improve load-balancing even though locality utilization and user mobility are not guaranteed. We propose a mobile locality-based hierarchical p2p overlay network (MLH-Net) to address locality problems without any other services. MLH-Net utilizes mobility features in a mobile environment. MLH-Net is constructed as two layers, an upper layer formed with super-nodes and a lower layer formed with normal-nodes. Because super-nodes can share advertisements, we can guarantee physical locality utilization between a requestor and a target during any discovery process. To overcome a node failure, we propose a simple recovery mechanism. The simulation results demonstrate that MLH-Net can decrease discovery routing hops by 15% compared with JXTA and 66% compared with Chord.
