  • Algorithm for passenger flow analysis based on DEM(Discrete Element Method) is newly developed. In the new algorithm, there are many similarity between multi phase flow and passenger flow. The velocity component of 1st phase corresponds to the direction vector of cell, each particle to each passenger, volume fraction to population density and the momentum equation of particle to the walking velocity equation of passenger, etc. And, the walking velocity of passenger is also represented by the function of population density. Key algorithms are developed to determine the position of passenger, population density and numbering to each passenger, To verify the effectiveness of new algorithm, passenger flow analysis for simple railway station model is conducted. The results for passenger flow in the model station are satisfying qualitatively and quantitatively.

  • The computational cost is expensive for CFD-DEM simulation, a larger time step and a simplified CFD-DEM model can be used to accelerate the simulation. The relationship between stiffness and overlap in non-linear Hertzian model is examined, and a reasonable time step is determined by a new single particle test. The simplified model is used to simulate dilute pneumatic conveying with different types of bends, and its applicability is verified by compared with the traditional model. They are good agreement in horizontal-vertical case and vertical-horizontal case, and show a significant differences in horizontal-horizontal case. But the key features of particle rope formed in different types of bends can be obtained by both models.

  • Unmanned ground vehicles(UGVs) are expected to play a key role in the future army. These UGVs would be used for weapons platforms. logistics carriers, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition in the rough terrain. Most of path planning methodologies for UGVs offer an optimal or sub-optimal shortest-path in a 20 space. However, those methodologies do not consider increment and reduction effects of relative distance when a UGV climbs up or goes down in the slope of rough terrain. In this paper, we propose a novel path planning methodology using the modified distance transform algorithm. Our proposed path planning methodology employs two kinds of map. One is binary obstacle map. The other is the DEM. With these two maps, the modified distance transform algorithm in which distance between cells is increased or decreased by weighting function of slope is suggested. The proposed methodology is verified by various simulations on the randomly generated DEM and obstacle map.

  • The reasonable layout of vacuum cleaner can effectively improve the collection efficiency of iron filings generated in the process of steel production. Therefore, in this study, the CFD-DEM coupling model and two-fluid model are used to calculate the iron filings collection efficiency of vacuum cleaner with different inclination/cross-sectional area, pressure drop and inlet angle. The results are as follows: The CFD-DEM coupling method can truly reflect the motion mode of iron filings in pneumatic conveying. Considering the instability and the decline of the growth rate of iron filings collection efficiency caused by high pressure drop, the layout of 75° inclination is suggested, and the optimal pressure drop is 100Pa. The optimal simulation results based on two-fluid model show that when the inlet angle and pressure drop are in the range of 45°~65° and 70Pa~100Pa, larger mass flow rate of iron filings can be obtained. It is hoped that the simulation results can offer some suggestion to the layout of vacuum cleaner in the rolling mill.

  • Digital elevation models(DEM) were generated from SPOT-5 HRG supermode imagery through photogrammetric processing. The reference DEMs were obtained from digital topographic maps of 1/5000 scaleas for analyzing the accuracy of the generated DEMs. The DEMs extracted from HRG stereo image data were compared with digital topograpic map DEMs on several test sections. And digital surface models(DSM) and 3D building model was produced.

  • Precise digital elevation model (DEM) is an important issue in coastal area where DEMs in a time series are especially required. Although LIDAR system is useful in coastal regions, it is not yet popular in Korea mainly because of its high surveying cost and national security reasons. Recently, precise coastal DEM have been made using radar interferometry, waterline method. One of these methods, Spaceborne imaging radar interferometry has been widely used to measure the topography and deformation of the Earth. We acquired ALOS PALSAR FBD mode (Fine Beam Dual) data for evaluating the quality of interferograms and their coherency. The purpose of this study is construction of DEM using the ALOS PALSAR data using radar interferometry and analysis of surface characteristics by coherence and magnitude map over the Ganghwado and Siwha tidal flats and near coastal lands.

  • With the recent advancement of surveying and technology, the spatial data acquisition rates and precision have been improved continually. As the updates of spatial data are rapid, and the size of data increases in line with the advancing technology, the LOD (Level of Detail) algorithm has been adopted to process data expressions in real time in a streaming format with spatial data divided precisely into separate steps. The existing GRID analysis utilizes the single DEM, as it is, in examining and analyzing all data outside the analysis area as well, which results in extending the analysis time in proportion to the quantity of data. Hence, this study suggests a method to reduce analysis time and data throughput by acquiring and analyzing DEM data necessary for GRID analysis in real time based on the area of analysis and the level of precision, specifically for streaming DEM data, which is utilized mostly for 3D geographic information service.

  • Land-use in Cheongju region is changing rapidly because of the increased interactions of human activities with the environment as population increases. We used multi-temporal Landsat images (1991 and 2000) and DEM data in a post-classification analysis with GIS to map land-use distribution and to analyse factors influencing the land-use changes for Cheongju City. Land-use statistics revealed that substantial land-use changes have taken place and that the built-up areas have expanded by about $17.57km^2(11.47%)$ over the study period (1991-2000). Agricultural lands and forests have decreased substantially while urban and barren lands have been on the increase. Rapid economic developments together with the increasing population were noted to be the major factors influencing rapid land use changes. Urban expansion has replaced urban and barren lands, thereby affecting habitat quality and leading to serious environmental degradation.

  • A DEM(digital elevation model) is generated from a SPOT panchromatic stereo-pair using automated algorithms over a 8 km$\times$10 km region around Mokpo city. The aims are to continue the accuracy assessment over diverse conditions and to examine the applicability of a SPOT DEM for coastal disaster monitoring. The accuracy is assessed with respect to three reference data sets: 10 global positioning system records, 19 leveling data, and 1:50,000 topography map. The planimetric error is 10.6m r.m.s. and the elevation erroer ranges from 12.4m to 14.4m r.m.s.. The DEM accuracy of the flat Mokpo region is consistent with that over a mountainous area, which supports the robustness of the algorithms. It was found that coordinate transformation errors are significant at a few meters when using the data from leveling and topographic maps. The error budget is greater than the requirements for coastal disaster monitoring. Exploiting that a sub-scene is used, the affine transformation improves the accuracy by 50% during the camera modeling.
