  • In this study, we used a 16-bit microprocessor, 80C196KC for a control part in order to develop a multi-functional wheel-chair system, and implemented a joy-stick to control this system. For the complete system, we used a commercial electromotive wheelchair as a basic plant, and applied an encoder to get the rotating number of the motor to transfer data to the MCU to control the motor. We used PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) method to control the wheel-chair motor where a H-bridge circuit was configured. We used the fuzzy control algorithm for the operation of DC motor, which was attached to the electromotive wheelchair and manipulated following the change of the joystick position while a user was controlling the joystick. He also could control the speed and direction of DC motor as well as control position information.

  • Electronic throttle control(ETC) is critical to drive ability, fuel economy and emission performance of present day passenger vehicles. Until now, many automobile engineer and company have been development electronic throttle controller and control algorism, such as adaptive control, sliding control, nonlinear and so on. But there are almost electronic throttle control using DC motor or stepping motor. This paper is the design of an electronic throttle controller and electronic throttle valve control using BLDC motor instead of DC motor.

  • A simple fault correction method for rotor position detection of a brushless DC(BLDC) motor with trapezoidal back EMF(electromotive force) using a Hall effect latch unit is presented. The reason why the Hall effect latch unit does not operate properly during the startup of a BLDC motor is thoroughly explained. To solve this problem, a simple code change method and its hardware implementation issues are proposed and discussed.

  • An advanced simulation model for brushless dc (BLDC) motor drives using Matlab is presented. In the developed model, the dynamic characteristics of speed and torque as well as voltages and currents of pwm inverter components can be effectively monitored and analyzed. Therefore, it can be expected that the developed simulation model can be an easy-to-design tool for the development of BLDC motor drives including control algorithms and topological variations with reduced computation time and memory size.

  • The technique of dual-input describing function's synthesis is introduced and the construction of a nonlinear compensator, based on this technique, is proposed. A nonlinear compensator, describing a complex DIDF depending upon amplitude of the second sinusoidal input signal only, is also proposed, where the second sinusoidal input signal is supplied to the nonlinear compensator by external generator. This compensator, connected in a closed loop of the PI speed control of DC motor, can improve the speed response in view instability limit cycle, low speed response and disturbance of the dynamic shift of the Nyquist's critical point -1 + j O. It is verified theoretically that the improvement of speed response of DC motor using the proposed compensator is achieved by means of the dynamic shift of the Nyquist's critical point on the complex plane, and the speed characterstics of DC motor is to be tested through experiment for its performance.

  • This paper presents the application of a simple neuro-based speed control scheme of a permanent magnet (PM) dc motor. To validate its efficiency, the performance characteristics of the proposed simple neuro-based scheme are compared with those of a Neural Network controller and those of a Fuzzy Logic controller under different operating conditions. The comparative results show that the simple neuro-based speed control scheme is robust, accurate and insensitive to load disturbances.

  • The powers used in the robot drive motor system are mostly DC sources such as batteries. Even AC powers in some systems are generated from DC sources by the inverter. It is can be forecasted that the DC-link communications will be widely used invarious industrial application. In this paper a novel BLDC motor drive system by using DC-link communications is proposed. The characteristic of this system is the communication only needs 2 DC lines. There are not additional lines to translate the reference signals and the reliability of the system is enhanced especially in some badly circumstance. The number of lines can be least when applied in the multi motor control system and the slip ring design can be simplified when applied as rotation machine. The reasonableness of proposed motor system is clarified by the PSIM simulation and the hardware prototype.

  • Using a sliding mode controller and observer techniques, this paper presents a robust current controller for a DC motor in the presence of parametric uncertainties. One of the most important issues in the practical application of sliding mode schemes is the chattering phenomenon caused by switching actions. This paper presents a novel sliding mode controller that incorporates an integral control with a sliding mode disturbance observer to attenuate the chattering by reducing the controller/observer switching gains. The proposed sliding mode disturbance observer is designed to estimate a relatively slow varying signal in the equivalent lumped disturbance owing to system uncertainties. Combining the estimated uncertainty with the sliding mode control input, the proposed controller can achieve the control objective by using the relatively low gain of the controller. The proposed disturbance observer does not include the switching control input of the baseline sliding mode controller to reduce the observer switching gain. In the proposed approach, the integral sliding mode control is used to improve the steady state control performance. Comparative computer simulations are carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method. Through the simulation results, the proposed controller realizes the robust performance with reduced current ripples.

  • A new control algorithm so called equal excursion sliding mode (EESM) control method is proposed to control the position of DC servo motor. This method introduces the concept of phase velocity vector that Filippov presented, and simplifies the problem of control gain selection in a conventional VSC strategy. And, by making state trajectories have equal excursions on both sides of switching hyperplane we minimized the probability of sliding mode's being collapsed, and approximated to the ideal sliding moed. Also, we proved the validity of this method by comparing the application results of this method to DC servo motor with those of conventional VSC strategy.

  • This paper concerned about a study on the direct pole placement PID self-tuning controller design for Robot manipulator control system. The method of a direct pole placement self-tuning PID control for a DC motor of robot manipulator tracks a reference velocity in spite of the parameters uncertainties in nonminimum phase system. In this scheme, the parameters of controller are estimated by the recursive least square(RLS) identification algorithm, the pole placement method and diophantine equation. A series of simulation in which minimum phase system and nonminimum phase system are subjected to a pattern of system parameter changes is presented to show some of the features of the proposed control algorithm. The proposed control algorithm which shown are effective for the practical application, and experiments of DC motor speed control for Robot manipulator by a microcomputer IRH-PC/AT are performed and the results are well suited.
