  • In this paper, a novel on-line do capacitance estimation method for the PWM converter is proposed. At no load, Input current at a low frequency is injected, which causes do voltage ripple. With the ac voltage and current ripple components of the dc side, the capacitance can be calculated. Experimental result shows that the estimation error is less than $2\%$.

  • This paper proposes a low-cost power converter for micro wind turbine systems using permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG). The proposed converter consists of a two-leg three-phase PWM inverter for the generator control and a single-phase half-bridge PWM converter which is connected to the utility grid. For the two separate DC-link voltages, a balancing control is added and the adverse effect of the DC-link voltage ripples on the inverter output voltage is compensated. The control performance of the proposed converter topology for the micro wind turbine system is shown by the simulation results using PSIM software.

  • This paper presents a study of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for photovoltaic arrays with only one current sensor. Initially, a review of MPPT methods with only a current sensor is performed with extension for a variety of dc/dc converters. Furthermore, the same topology is developed to achieve better performance in the presence of sensor offset and environmental noise. The proposed method is robust, cost effective, and behaves well dynamically and in the steady state. After a theoretical analysis of presented approach, its validity and effectiveness are verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • With the development of multilevel converters, cascaded single-phase H-bridge rectifiers (CHBRs) has become widely adopted in high-voltage high-power applications. In this study, sequence pulse modulation (SPM) is proposed for CHBRs. SPM is designed to balance the dc-link voltage and maintain the smooth changes of switch states. In contrast to phase disposition modulation, SPM balances the dc-link voltage even after removing the load of one submodule. The operation principle of SPM is deduced, and the unbalance degree of SPM is analyzed. All the proposed approaches are experimentally verified through a prototype of a four-module (nine-level) CHBR. Conclusions are drawn in accordance with the results of SPM and its imbalance degree analysis.

  • This paper presents an improved ZCT (Zero-Current-Transition) PWM DC/DC Boost Converter without additional current stress and conduction loss on the main switch during the resonance period of the auxiliary cell. The auxiliary cell consists of a resonance inductor, a resonant capacitor, an auxiliary switch and the Zero-Current-Switching ranges of the main and the auxiliary switch of the proposed converters are entirely achieved by operating the auxiliary cell. Then Improved ZCT soft switching converter will be discussed. Therefore, the proposed converter has a high efficiency. To show the superiority of this converter is verified through the experiment with a 640W, 50kHz prototype converter.

  • This paper proposes a novel PWM technique for a three phase current fad type converters. A minor loop compensation method is introduced to compensate leading current and to minimize input line current (Iu) distortion resulting from the resonance between AC filter capacitor and source inductance of power system. This PWM converter has excellent characterics as next. The control system is simply designed, and the operation with unity power factor can be easily obtained by automatic compensating the leading current of the filter circuit. Also. the three phase sinusoidal input current can be obtained.

  • This paper introduces a novel hybrid converter combining a full-bridge soft switching converter and a full-bridge LLC converter. In this topology all the primary switches can achieve ZVS and ZCS all over the operation range. An additional switch and a diode are added in the secondary side of full-bridge converter to eliminate the circulating current and to provide a separate freewheeling path. The hybrid structure makes it possible to deliver the power to the secondary all the time of operation, thereby improving the efficiency. The proposed topology is suitable for the applications such as on-board chargers for electric vehicles and high power dc-dc converters. A 6.6-kW prototype converter was implemented and 97.5% efficiency was obtained through the experiments.

  • This study proposes a new zero-current-zero-voltage-transition (ZCZVT) boost-flyback converter using a soft switching auxiliary circuit. The proposed converter integrates the boost and flyback converters to increase the voltage with a low duty ratio. The main and auxiliary switches turn the ZCZVT conditions on and off. Thus, the proposed converter has high efficiency. The voltage gain at the steady state is derived, and the inductor volt-second balance and the design guidelines are presented. Finally, the performance of the proposed converter is validated by experimental results from a 200 W, 30 V DC input, 400 V DC output, and 200 kHz boost-flyback converter prototype.

  • In DC-DC converters, a PWM/PFM dual mode control method is commonly used to maintain a high efficiency over a wide range of load variation. Since the control mode is selected according to the load condition, the chip area is increased due to additional circuit for mode control and the optimum efficiency cannot be achieved around the mode transition point. To solve such problems, a new integrated control method is proposed in this paper, in which a PLL is used in the current mode PWM control circuit instead of an oscillator. The proposed integrated control method is verified through a design of a buck converter using PSIM simulation. Simulation of the complete buck converter circuit by Cadence Spectre showed a maximum efficiency of 94.7% at a load current of 250mA and an efficiency of 85.4% at a load current of 10mA under the light load condition.
