  • The objective function of reservoir storage error was suggested to simulate daily reservoir inflow. DAWAST model, UMAX, LMAX, FC,CP, CE were calibrated. Daily reservoir inflow was imulated with calibrated parameters and reservoir storage was simulated on a daily basis. The simulated results were compared with the monthly results by Gajiyama equation and ten-day results by Tank rainfall-runoff model through equal value lines and hydrographs . DAWAST model showed the best results compared with Gajiymama equation and Tank model. Especially, DAWAST model showed a good agreement in dry periods. NEW concept using objective function of storage error was believed to be satisfactory and to be applied in estimating reservoir inflow.

  • The daily streamflow in the Yalu watershed located in the north-estern part of China was simulated by the DAWAST model. The parameters of model were calibrated by optimization technique with the input data of daily rainfall and pan evaporation occurred from 1997 to 1998, and they were Umax of 404mm, Lmax of 39mm, FC of 104mm, CP of 0.018, and CE of 0.003, respectively. Model verification tests were carried out with a data of 1996, and the results were generally satisfactory. Root mean square error was 0.3mm and Percent error in volume was 9.7%, and Correlation coefficient was 0.941.

  • In order to make the way to determine the instream flow more practically, we have investigated many case studies and reviewed reports and papers. To validate instream flow level suggested by the case studies, DAWAST and HEC-RAS model were applied to the Gap-stream watershed in Daejeon city. Flow-duration analysis was performed both with the stream flow data gauged in the Indong, Boksu, and Hoeduck stations, and with the stream flow data estimated by the DAWAST model and the specific discharge method. Instream flow was determined among the flow-duration analysis, DAWAST, HEC-RAS model and mass balance approach. It was satisfied with various factors such as target water quality, water depth for eco-system and resorts, water surface width, flow velocity for landscape in dry season. The study suggested that the mean low flow could be replaced into the instream flow for the preliminary study because the instream flow considering ecosystem, landscape, water-friendly environment and water quality was generally close to the mean low flow.

  • A relationship between the water quantity and the inflow pollutant loads of BOD, TN, and TP in So-okcheon of the upper Keum river in 2000 was investigated in this study. Daily streamflow of So-okcheon needed to compute the pollutant loads was estimated by the DAWAST model, because there is no measurement of the discharge. From a relative function of the inflow pollutant loads using DAWAST, BOD can be estimated by the relation of $y=145.31x^{1.06},\;TN\;by\;y=598.11x^{0.90}\;and\;TP\;by\;y=39.60x^{0.89}$.

  • This research developed a method for the estimation of groundwater recharge by yielding daily soil moisture content and watershed evapotranspiration from the water balance concept of the unsaturated and saturated layers in rainfall-runoff model called DAWAST. The goal of the research is to estimate the groundwater recharge fulfilling conditions of the safe discharge for any season. To meet this goal, the data of groundwater level and stream flow rate have been monitored in a study area and used to validate the model.

  • It is one of the most important factors to determine the effective rainfall for estimation of flood hydrograph in design schedule. SCS curve number (CN) method has been frequently used to estimate the effective rainfall of synthesized design flood hydrograph for hydraulic structures. But, it should be cautious to apply SCS-CN originally developed in U.S.A to watersheds in Korea, because characteristics of watersheds in Korea and cropping patterns especially like a paddy land cultivation are quite different from those in USA. New CN method has been introduced. Maximum storage capacity which was herein defined as Umax can be calibrated from the streamflow data and converted to new CN-I of direst condition of soil moisture in the given watershed. Effective rainfall for design flood hydrograph can be estimated by the curve number developed in the watersheds in Korea.

  • Daily streamflow model, DAWAST, considering the meteorologic and geographic characteristics of the Korean watersheds has been developed to simulate the daily streamflow with the input data of daily rainfall and pan evaporation. The model is the conceptual one with three sub-models which are optimization, generalization, and regionalization models. The conceptual model consists of three linear reservoirs representing the surface, unsaturated, and saturated soil zones and water balance analysis was carried out in each soil zones on a daily basis. Optimization model calibrates the parameters by optimization technique and is applicable to the watersheds where the daily streamflow data are available Generalization model predicts the parameters by regression equations considering the geographic, soil type, land use, and hydrogeologic characteristics of watershed and is appicable to ungaged medium or small watersheds. Regionalization model cites the parameters from the analysed ones considering river system, latitude and longitude, and is applicable to ungaged large watersheds.

  • Using the daily water balance model of the Keum River Barrage Dam, water supply capacity was analyzed. The scenario of reservoir inflow was selected to case with Daechung dam, case with no dam, case with Yongdam dams. Runoffs in 12 sub watersheds were simulated by the DAWAST model considered return flows.

  • The ground water regime analysis method, numerical analysis method, water budget method, and baseflow analysis method have been used for estimating ground water recharged quantity. This study, adapting water budget concept of unsaturated zone, and saturated zone of the DAWAST model, proposed a new method to estimate ground water recharged quantity.

  • In order to analyze water supply capacity in estuary barrage dam, a system was developed in which base model was consisted of daily water balance model and daily inflow model. Agricultural water demand to paddy fields and domestic and industrial water demand were considered in this daily water balance model. Also outflow volume through sluice gate and inside water level at time to start outflow was conditioned initially to simulate reservoir storage. The DAWAST model was selected to simulate daily reservoir inflow in which return flows from agricultural, domestic and industrial water were included to simulate runoff. Using this developed system, water supply capacity in the Keum river estuary reservoir was analyzed.
