Design of Smart AP for DASH Service in Non-DASH Client (Non-DASH 클라이언트상에서 DASH 서비스 제공 가능한 Smart AP 설계)

  • In general, it is essential that contents are to be provided with proper bitrate according to network conditions in order to support higher quality of video streaming services over wired and wireless networks. Recently, DASH is adopted by the MPEG as the standard for HTTP based adaptive streaming technology and consists of the server and clients. The clients should parse XML files from the server and play contents after accessing the finely divided segments into various bitrates. In this paper, we designed a Smart AP(Access Point) which exists between DASH contents server and Non-DASH clients enables provide DASH services to Non-DASH clients. In addition, proposed Smart AP provides DASH service to various types of clients as maintaining the existing environment without additional development costs.

  • We designed and implemented streaming server based on MEPG DASH, which is able to provide high quality video with low-latency live streaming service like 360 VR video on the existing cable network via low-spec media service devices such as IPTV and OTT(Over the Top) SettopBox. We also designed and applied management process which is cable of supporting services by cashing streaming video file(MPD, Segment Files) to reduce the server response delay time. Further more, we confimred that it is also able to provide high quality of tiled video streaming with over 50,000kbps bitrate and 8K@60P through the experiment.

  • DASH(Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)는 MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group)에서 표준화 중인 HTTP를 이용한 적응형 비디오 스트리밍 기술이다. 일반적으로 HTTP를 이용한 적응형 비디오 스트리밍에서 클라이언트가 사용할 수 있는 기능은 파일 전체 또는 그 일부를 다운로드하는 것이다. 따라서 전체 콘텐트를 작은 파일 조각 즉, 세그먼트(segment)로 분할하여 세그먼트들을 순차적으로 다운로드함으로써 마치 스트리밍이 달성되는 것과 같은 효과를 낼 수 있다. 네트워크의 상태에 따라 전송률을 조절하기 위해서는 서버에 서로 다른 비트율로 부호화된 세그먼트들을 함께 보관해 두어 클라이언트로 하여금 선택할 수 있게 한다. DASH에서는 MPEG-2 TS 또는 MPEG-4 파일 포맷(MP4)를 기반으로 하는 두 가지 형태의 서버 콘텐트를 제공할 수 있다. MP4 기반 DASH의 경우, 클라이언트가 수신한 세그먼트들을 순차적으로 이어 붙여 저장한다 하더라도 특별한 조건을 만족하는 경우를 제외하고는 MP4 파일을 재생할 수 있는 기존 미디어 플레이어가 이를 재생하지 못한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 특별한 조건을 제시하고 이를 검증하였다. 이 조건은 서버에서 제공하는 세그먼트들에 대한 조건이다.

  • MPEG-DASH(Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)는 MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group)에서 표준화 중인 HTTP를 이용한 적응형 비디오 스트리밍 기술이다. MPEG-DASH는 인터넷 방화벽에 의해 차단되는 RTP/UDP를 이용한 AV 스트리밍 대신 현재 HTTP/TCP를 이용하여 AV 스트리밍을 하는 추세에 맞춰 유무선 인터넷에서 망 환경 및 단말 환경에 동적 적응적으로 AV 스트리밍을 달성하기 위한 기술에 대한 표준이다. HTTP를 이용한 AV 스트리밍은 서버의 부담을 최소화하고 클라이언트의 지능적 처리에 전적으로 의존하는 스트리밍 방식이다. MPEG-DASH 클라이언트는 HTTP의 파일 전송 요청 또는 파일 일부 전송 요청만을 사용하여 스트리밍을 달성한다. 2011년 7월 제97차 MPEG 회의에서 MPEG-DASH DIS(Draft International Standard) 2차 버전이 승인되었다. 본 논문에서는 이 DIS 2차 버전에 따라 MP4 파일 포맷 기반의 MPEG-DASH 클라이언트를 구현하고 그 동작을 실험을 통해 검증하였다.

  • 최근 인터넷 미디어 스트리밍 수요의 증가로 인해 CDN(Content Delivery Network) 서버 비용이 크게 증가하였으며 이를 절감하기 위한 방안의 필요성이 날로 증가하고 있다. 이러한 상황에 맞춰 최근 CDN 서버 비용을 절감할 수 있는 WebRTC(Web Real-Time Communication) 표준 기반의 P2P(Peer-to-Peer) 통신을 병용하는 DASH(Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) 기술이 등장하였다. 본 논문에서는 이 기술의 CDN 서버 부하 절감 효과를 크게 개선할 수 있는 알고리듬을 제안한다. 또한 실제 모바일 네트워크 환경과 유사하게 실험 조건을 설정한 후, 이 알고리듬을 구현하여 그 성능을 측정한 결과, 기존과 비교하여 더 높은 절감 효과를 달성할 수 있음을 실험실 내 실험을 통해 보인다.

  • Video based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) is one of the compression methods for compressing point clouds, and shows high efficiency in dynamic point cloud compression with movement due to the feature of compressing point cloud data using an existing video codec. Accordingly, V-PCC is drawing attention as a core technology for immersive content services such as AR/VR. In order to effectively service these V-PCC contents through a media streaming platform, it is necessary to encapsulate them in the existing media file format, ISO based Media File Format (ISOBMFF). However, in order to service through an adaptive streaming platform such as Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH), it is necessary to encode V-PCC contents of various qualities and store them in the server. Due to the size of the 2D media, it causes a great burden on the encoder and the server compared to the existing 2D media. As a method to solve such a problem, it may be considered to configure a streaming platform based on content obtained through V-PCC content encoding based on SHVC. Therefore, this paper encapsulates the SHVC-based V-PCC bitstream into ISOBMFF suitable for DASH service and proposes a configuration method to service it. In addition, in this paper, we propose ISOBMFF encapsulation and DASH configuration method to effectively service SHVC-based V-PCC contents, and confirm them through verification experiments.

Effective Bandwidth Measurement for Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH시스템을 위한 유효 대역폭 측정 기법)

  • DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) is an adaptive streaming technique that enables transmission of multimedia content when clients request the multimedia contents to server. In this system, to ensure the best quality of the content to satisfy users, it is necessary to precisely measure the residual bandwidth. However, the measured residual bandwidth by the DASH, which is not considering the transmission features of TCP, varies by the size of previous media segment, which makes it hard to ensure QoE to users. In this paper, we excluded the TCP Slow start range from measurement of residual bandwidth and suggested the new DASH bandwidth measuring method to decrease the error. Then, we realized the method in DASH system based on open source, and compared the existing measuring method. The new method showed that the accuracy of result has increased by 20%. Also, it could improve the QoE of users in terms of service quality and number of changes of segment quality.

  • A dynamic adaptive streaming server consumes high processor power because it handles a large amount of transcoding operations at a time. For this purpose, multi-processor architecture is mandatory for which effective transcoding task distribution strategies are essential. In this paper, we present the design and implementation details of the transcoding workload distribution schemes at a 2-tier (frontend node and backend node) transcoding server. For this, we implemented four schemes: 1) allocation of transcoding tasks to appropriate back-end nodes, 2) task scheduling in the back-end node and 3) the communication between front-end and back-end nodes. Experiments were conducted to compare the estimated and the actual power consumption in a real testbed to verify the efficacy of the system. It also proved that the system can reduce the load on each node to optimize the power and time used for transcoding.

  • Currently media consumption over fixed/mobile Internet is mostly conducted by adaptive media streaming technology such as DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), which is an ISO/IEC MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) standard, or some other technologies similar to DASH. All these heavily depend on the HTTP caches that ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are obliged to provide sufficiently to make sure fast enough Web services. As a result, as the number of media streaming users increases, ISPs' burden for HTTP cache has been greatly increased rather than CDN (Content Delivery Network) providers' server burden. Hence ISPs charge traffic cost to CDN providers to compensate for the increased cost of HTTP caches. Recently in order to reduce the traffic cost of CDN providers, P2P (Peer-to-Peer)-assisted DASH system was proposed and a peer selection algorithm that maximally reduces CDN provides' traffic cost was investigated for this system. This algorithm, however, tends to concentrate the burden upon the selected peer. This paper proposes a new peer selection algorithm that distributes the burden among multiple peers while maintaining the proper reduction level of the CDN providers' cost. Through implementation of the new algorithm in a Web-based media streaming system using WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) standard APIs, it demonstrates its effectiveness with experimental results.

Therefore, in this paper, utilizing the real-time Video communication Web-based technology without installing the plug-in, real-time through a Web browser or Active-X of another using a script HTML5 and the Web on the Internet Using HTTP in an environment in the Internet is possible, I've implemented a system capable of Video communication.
