  • In order to provide electricity to users economically and safely, distribution automation systems (DASs) monitor and operate components of distribution systems remotely through communication networks. The fiber optic communication network has been mainly installed for the DAS of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) because of its huge bandwidth and dielectric noise immunity. However, the fiber optic communication network has some shortcomings that its installation cost and communication fee are expensive. This paper proposes a complex network where WLANs are combined with conventional fiber optic communication networks in order to expand DAS easily and inexpensively. A fixed wireless bridge communication unit (FWB-CU) for the proposed complex network is implemented using IEEE 802.11a WLAN technology. The proposed complex network is built actually to verify its feasibility experimentally as a DAS communication network.

  • 최근 이미지 데이터에 대한 요구가 폭발적으로 증가됨에 따라 대용량 이미지 데이터에 대한 저장과 검색에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 이미지 데이터는 기존의 텍스트 데이터에 비해 대용량이라는 특성과 비정형적인 특성을 가지고 있어 신속하고 효율적인 검색에 많은 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존에 이미지 검색을 위해 제안된 인덱스 구조중 고차원 특성을 효율적으로 수용하고 저장공간의 이용률과 검색성능이 뛰어난 CIR-트리를 국내에서 개발된 상용 데이터베이스 시스템인 바다의 하부 저장구조인 MiDAS 기반에서 구현한다. CIR-트리 관리기를 갖는 MiDAS-III에서 K-NN 질의 및 범위 질의가 처리될 때 순차검색에 비해 약 60~99%정도의 검색성능이 향상되었다.

  • 2012년 Das 등은 계층적 무선 센서 네트워크를 위한 동적 패스워드 기반 사용자 인증 스킴을 제안하였다. 그러나 Das 등이 제안한 동적 패스워드 기반 사용자 인증 스킴은 패스워드 추측 공격에 대한 취약성이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 Das 등이 제안한 동적 패스워드 기반 사용자 인증 스킴을 분석하고, Das 등의 인증 스킴이 패스워드 추측 공격에 안전하지 못함을 증명한다. 또한 패스워드 길이에 따른 패스워드 추측 공격에 대한 공격시간을 분석한다.

Modifying Effect of Diallyl Sulfide on Colon Carcinogenesis in C57BL/6J-ApcMin/+ Mice

  • Diallyl sulfide (DAS), a flavoring compound derived from garlic, is considered to have cancer chemopreventive potential in experimental animals and humans. This study was designated to examine possible chemopreventive effects of DAS on colon carcinogenesis using genetically engineered transgenic $Apc^{Min/+}$ mice, a well-established animal model for familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and sporadic colorectal cancer. Male C57BL/6J-$Apc^{Min/+}$ mice were divided into three groups. Animals of group 1 were placed on the basal diet (AIN-76A) as non-treated controls. Animals of groups 2 and 3 were given DAS-containing diets (in doses of 100 and 300 ppm, respectively). All mice were sacrificed at the end of week 10 of the experiment. Histopathological investigation revealed that the incidence of colonic polyps was decreased dose-dependently by 19% (13/16) in group 2 and by 32% (13/20) in group 3 compared to the 100% incidence (10/10) in group 1. The multiplicity of colonic polyps per mouse was also slightly decreased by DAS treatment ($1.88{\pm}0.35$ in group 2 and $1.63{\pm}0.36$ in group 3) compared to $2.00{\pm}0.39$ in group 1. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in the numbers of total polyps per mouse in the small intestine between the groups. Taken together, we suggest that DAS may exert promising inhibitory effects on colon carcinogenesis in the transgenic $Apc^{Min/+}$ mice.

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis of Sucrose Biosynthesis-Associated Gene Expression Using RNA-Seq at Various Growth Periods in Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris L.)

  • Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) is one of the most important sugar crops and provides up to 30% of the world's sugar production. In this study, we mainly performed RNA-sequencing to obtain identify putative genes involved in biosynthesis pathway of sucrose in sugar beet and comparative transcriptomic analyses in the four developmental stages (50, 90, 160 and 330 days after seedling). As a result of the sugar content analysis, it was increased significantly from 50 to 160 days after seedling (DAS), and then decreased at 330 DAS. On the other hand, the taproot weight, length, and width were increased during all the growth periods. Out of 21,451 genes with expressed value, 21,402 (99.77%) genes had functional descriptions. Among the three comparisons, S1 (50 DAS) vs. S2 (90 DAS), S1 vs. S3 (160 DAS), and S1 vs. S4 (330 DAS), expression profiling of the transcripts was identified 4,991 with differentially expressed genes (DEGs). By comparing the top 20 enriched gene ontology (GO) terms as three comparisons, the top GO terms were commonly confirmed with external encapsulating structure, cell wall, and extracellular regions. In addition, the 38 enriched candidate genes related to sucrose biosynthetic pathway were screened from the entire DEG pool, and the candidate genes might be providing a basic data for further sugar metabolism studies in development of sugar beet taproot.

Effects of Harvest Timing and Storage Conditions on Ear Quality of Waxy Corn (찰옥수수 수확시기 및 저장조건이 이삭 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • The consumption of waxy corn is steadily increasing in Korea. Waxy corn is harvested before it reaches full maturity and consumed immediately or follwing cold storage. Glutinous and sweet kernels are preferred due to their high palatability. The kernel properties can change rapidly following harvest, and, therefore, optimal conditions to maintain the kernel quality of corn should be identified. In addition, the timing of harvest of waxy corn ear should be also determined for optimal marketable corn production. From 10 days after silking (DAS) to25 DAS. fresh ear weight and single kernel weight rapidly increased from 78.3 g and 1.13 g, respectively, to 224.9 and 3.61 g, respectively. However, by 30 DAS both fresh and single kernel weight decreased by 10.6% and 6.1%, respectively. Kernel hardness significantly increased up to 25 DAS, and a further slight increase in kernel hardness was observed at 30 DAS. Total sugar content in kernel decreased from 12.5% at 10 DAS to 3.5% at 35 DAS, which was the result of the conversion of sugars to starch during ear development. Crude protein content in kernel did not vary significantly in comparison to kernel hardness. During storage of ear, kernel hardness increased from $726g\;cm^{-2}$ at harvest to $1894g\;cm^{-2}$ following 28 days of storage at a low temperature ($0^{\circ}C$). Kernel hardness increased 2.5 fold from 15 DAS to 30 DAS. Soluble protein level in kernel increased until 10 DAS, following which a slight decrease was observed. The soluble protein content decreased from 1.85% at 5 DAS to 1.45% at 35 DAS. Total sugar content in kernel decreased regardless of storage temperature; however, the rate of reduction was lower at $0^{\circ}C$ than that observed following storage at $4^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$. The rate of reduction in kernel moisture content was also lower at $0^{\circ}C$ than that observed at $4^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$.

Effects of Ca-Gluconate on Fruit Firmness and Softening Enzyme Activities in Tomato using Hydroponics Systems

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Ca-gluconate (Ca-glu) on fruit firmness and softening enzyme activities of hydroponically grown tomato (Solanium esculentum Mill.). The obtained results revealed that the rate of weight loss was markedly increased from at storage to 5 days after storage (DAS) in control, and was constantly increased until 7 DAS as 4.1% in Ca-glu treatment. Fruit firmness was more rapidly decreased in Ca-glu induced fruit compared to control. Results showed that fruit firmness in control and Ca-glu treated fruit were 0.67 and $0.95kg{\cdot}{\varphi}12mm^{-1}$, respectively. In our investigation, no difference was revealed in Hunter's 'a' value between control and Ca-glu treated fruit. Total carotenoids content of control fruit were rapidly increased while the Ca-glu treated fruit were gently increased. Lycopene content was higher ($63.3{\mu}g{\cdot}g^{-1}\;FW$) in control than Ca-glu treatment ($56.8{\mu}g{\cdot}g^{-1}\;FW$). The activity of Polygalacturonase (PG) was rapidly increased with increasing storage period as from 0.4 to 1.2 units whereas the PG activity of Ca-glu treatment was gently increased from 1 to 7 DAS, and rapidly increased from 7 to 11 DAS. However, the pectinesterase (PE) activity was rapidly increased in control fruit, when the storage period was increased, but interestingly, the Ca-glu treated fruit was slowly increased from 1 to 7 DAS, and rapidly increased 7to 11 DAS. ${\beta}$-galactosidase activity of Ca-glu induced fruit was rapidly increased from 1 to 7 DAS as from 1.6 to 3.0 units, and gently increased from 7 to 11 DAS. ${\beta}$-galactosidase activity of control were higher than Ca-glu treatment.

  • Die $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}cher$ spielen beim Erwerb einer Sprache eine wesentliche Rolle. Es gibt inzwischen mehrere Deutsch-Koreanische $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}cher$. Die Lage $f\"{u}r$ die Koreanisch-Deutschen $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}cher$ ist aber verbesserungs- $bed\"{u}rftig$. Stellvertretend $f\"{u}r$ das Koreanisch/Deutsche $W\"{o}rterbuch$ steht das 1981 von der Koreanischen Gesellschaft $f\"{u}r$ Germanistik nach $zehnj\"{a}hriger$ Arbeit fertiggestellte Essence Koreanisch-Deutsche $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$ (Minjung seorim 1982). Dieses $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$ weist aber einige Nachteilen auf. Es fehlen jegliche Angaben zum Korpus. Man $st\"{o}{\ss}t$ beispielsweise oft auf selten gebrauchte $W\"{o}rter$, die Grundbedeutungen sind nicht erkennbar, die Erklarungen sind ungenau, manchmal sogar $irref\"{u}hrend\;und\;schlie{\ss}lich$ mitunter stilistisch falsch. Diese negativen Punkte wirken sich $ung\"{u}nstig$ auf den gesamten Lemprozess bis hin zur Lemmotivation aus. Aus diesen Gegebenheiten $erw\"{a}chst$ die Notwendigkeit der Erstellung eines neuen $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$s, das auf die Situation von Sprachlemem abgestimmt ist, die zur Benutzung einsprachiger $W\"{o}rterbticher$ noch nicht imstande sind. Zweck des $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}chs$ ist der Einsatz im Fremdsprachenunterricht, woraus sich ein zweisprachiges $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$ ergibt. Als Benutzerkreis werden insbesondere $Sprachlemanf\"{a}nger$ des Koreanischen und Deutschen ins Auge gefasst. Ihnen soll ein Nachschlagewerk an die Hand gegeben werden, das den koreanischen und deutschen Wortschatz anhand einer Systematik und eines alphabetischen Indexes der jeweiligen Sprache $erschlie{\ss}t$. Ais Zahl der Lemmata wird $f\"{u}r$ jede Sprache ca. 10,000 festgelegt. Ein Grundwortschatz, der die 3000 $h\"{a}ufigsten\;W\"{o}rter$ umfasst wird extra markiert. $Dar\"{u}ber$ hinaus bietet das $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$ den darauf aufbauende Wortschatz von weiteren 7000 $W\"{o}rtern$. Die Teamarbeit der beiden Gruppen von Muttersprachlern steht in allen Arbeitsschritten im Vordergrund. Der damit verbundene Zweck ist die Erzielung der maximalen Genauigkeit der $Lemmaerkl\"{a}rungen$. Da dieses $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$ ein $W\"{o}rterb\"{u}ch$ nach Sachgruppen ist, die Erstellung einer Systematik von $gro{\ss}er$ Bedeutung. $F\"{u}r$ das vorliegende Projekt gait daher eine Systematik zu finden, die nicht nur leicht nachvollziehbar, also praktikabel ist, sondern insbesondere von Benutzern aus zwei Kulturkreisen akzeptiert werden kann. Als $grunds\"{a}tzliche$, allerdings nicht in allen Bereichen $gleicherma{\ss}en$ anwendbare Ordnungsprinzipien gelten: Vom Oberbegriff zum Unterbegriff, vom allgemein zum speziell, vom Einfach zum Komplexen, von $au{\ss}en$ nach innen, Darin spiegelt sich das Prinzip der 'notwendigen Bedingung' wider.

Sugars, Soluble Solids and Flavor as Influenced by Maturity of Sweet Corn (단옥수수의 성숙정도에 따른 당함량, 가용성 고형물 및 맛의 변화)

  • Changes in the contents of sugars and soluble solids and flavor rate of cooked kernels of three sweet com hybrids (Great Bell, Danok 1, and Golden Cross Bantam) and a super sweet corn hybrid (Crisp Super Sweet 720) were observed from 15 days after silking (DAS) to 27 or 33 DAS in 1985 and 1986 to determine the optimum harvest time. Sucrose content in all hybrids and fructose and glucose contents of Crisp Super Sweet 720 increased from 15 DAS to 21 or 24 DAS and then decreased. However, in the three sweet corn hybrids both fructose and glucose contents were highest at 15 DAS and then continuously decreased with maturity. At harvest time the major sugar component was sucrose and the highest total sugar content of Crisp Super Sweet 720 was 2-3 times higher than that of three sweet corn hybrids. Soluble solids were continuously increased with maturity in three sweet com varieties, but that of Crisp Super Sweet 720 increased up to 24 DAS, maintained the level through 30 DAS and then decreased. At harvest time soluble solids of three sweet com varieties were much higher than that of Crisp Super Sweet 720. The optimum harvest time seems to be about 27 DAS considering flavor rate and marketing conditions although the total sugar content was lower than those of earlier harvests. Soluble solids but not total sugars were positively correlated with the flavor of cooke6 com harvested at different growth stages in the same variety. Total sugars were not correlated with soluble solids or negatively correlated depending on hybrids.

Diallyl Sulfides (DAS) and Diallyl Disulfides (DADS) Exhibit a Suppressive Effect on the Proliferation and Migration of Vascular Smooth Muscle

  • Previous studies report that organo-sulfur compounds derived from garlic inhibited smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation and induced apoptosis of cancer cells. Recently, lipid-soluble compounds such as diallyl sulfides (DAS) and diallyl disulfides (DADS) have been reported to more effectively suppress tumor cell proliferation. However, there were few studies on the suppressive effects of lipid-soluble garlic sulfur compounds on the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). Therefore, this study investigated the effect of DAS and DADS on VSMC proliferation/migration induced by oleic acid (OA), a principal fatty acid in circulating triglyceride of blood stream. Assays performed include a tetrazole (MTT) assay, a wound healing assay and a Western blots. VSMC proliferations were enhanced by OA in a dose-dependent manner at concentrations of $10{\sim}50\;{\mu}M$ and inhibited by DAS and DADS compared to non-treated control. OA-induced proliferations were also attenuated by DAS and DADS. OA-induced cell migrations were 2.5 times higher than non-treated control, and they were significantly attenuated by DAS (32% at $150\;{\mu}M$ and 50% at $200\;{\mu}M$) and DADS (40% at $150\;{\mu}M$ and 46% at $200\;{\mu}M$). OA-induced cell migration was also attenuated by PD98059 (ERK inhibitor), SB203580 (P38 inhibitor) and particularly by LY204002 (PI3K inhibitor) and SP600125 (JNK2 inhibitor). Additionally, Western blot assays showed that OA-induced JNK1/2-phosphorylation was down-regulated after treatment with DAS and DADS. In conclusion, the findings of our study support the idea that DAS and DADS may have a suppressive effect on the proliferation and migration of OA-induced VSMC and that this effect may be partly associated with PI3K and JNK2 pathways.
