R&D payoffs guaranteed by the patent law are offered to the very firm that succeeds in R&D for the first time. This paper shows how the interpretation of R&D as a race affects a firm's preferences over cooperative R&D. Introducing the aspect of a race into R&D, cooperative R&D yields more profit than non-cooperative R&D in cases where R&D has a relatively low hazard rate. This result contrasts well with previous result obtained without considering the aspect of R&D race.

During the period from 1971 to 73 physiologic races of potato late blight pathogen, Phytophthora infestans, causing severe losses of seed potato production at Alpine area, Korea, were investigated. In 1971, 68 isolates of the pathogen from various potato varieties were identified by the use of differential host Plants, and found that there were 10 races; 0, 1, 2, 3, 1.3, 1.4, 3.4, 1.3.4, 2.3.4. The most Predominant races for the year were 0 and 3. In 1972, the same procedure was repeated with 62 isolates of the pathogen, and found 5 different races; 0, 1, 4, 1.3 and 1.3.4. The most predominant race for the year was race 0. In 1973, six races; 0, 3, 4, 1.3, 3.4 and 1.3.4 were found from 76 isolates of the year, and the race 0 and 4 apperared as the most Predominant races for the year. Total of 11 races; 0, 1, 3, 4, 1.3, 1.4, 3.4, 1.3.4, 2.3.4 and 1.2.3.4, were found during the period from 1971 to 73 at Alpine area, among which the most predominant races were race 0, 3, and 4. The investigation indicated that the anual incidence of these races largely depended on the climatic conditions of the year.

In order to improve performance for the size of the rat-race ring coupler, the CCL is used for the realization as the delay line. As realizing lower coupling coefficient, the ratio of the size-reduction for the CCL is enhanced. The CCL is alternated with ${\lambda}_g/4$ of the rat-race ring, and optimized two CCLs are inserted for the size-reduction. the coupling coefficient is 0.2, and electrical lengths of each CCL are $28.2^{\circ}$ and $21.7^{\circ}$. Designed rat-race ring using the CCL has the size of $18.76{\times}20.45mm^2$ and the size-reduction ratio of fabricated rat-race ring using the CCL has 76.8%. Also, fabricated rat-race ring is measured the insertion loss of 3.20dB at the center frequency of 2.45GHz and the 20dB bandwidth is 24.04%. Differenced magnitude and phase between threw port and coupled port are measured 0.1dB and $177.4^{\circ}$, respectively. These performances are almost same compared with the conventional rat-race ring. Suggested application of the CCL can be used various devices and circuits for the size-reduction.

Soybean cultivars were inoculated with mixtures of races 3 and 4 of the soybean cyst nematode(SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe. On a susceptible soybean cultivar Lee, the relative female maturation of the race mixture was not significantly different when compared with the maturation potentials for each of the two races alone. However, female maturation was significantly lower for the mixture than' for race 4 alone on the soybean cultivas Pickett and Mack which are susceptible to only race 4. Selection of SCN populations consisting of race 3 and race 4 resulted in a decrease in race 4 on soybean cultivars Lee and Bragg which are susceptible to all SCN races and an increase in race 4 on soybean cultivars Pickett and Peking which are susceptible to only race 4. A significant reduction of race 4 was also observed on Lee with most mixtures of race' 3 and race' 4 combined in several ratios, suggesting that race 3 was more competitive than race 4 on the susceptible soybean.

Sixteen recommended soybean cultivars in Korea were tested for resistance to Heterodera glycines. The nubmer of females which developed on roots of cultivars were fewer on 'Hwanggeum kong' and greater on 'Geumgangdaelib'. But there was no resistant cultivar to Heterodera glycines. Four field populations of Heterodera glycines tested for ability to reproduce on five host differentials. Geographical differentiations of H. glycines were newly founded in Korea. These were identlified to race 1 at Hwasun, race 5 at Yangsan and Suweon and Unknown race(or race C) at Seonsan.

Studies were conducted to investigate the race distribution of soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines Ichinohe) in Korea. The results are abstracted as follows. The soybean cyst nematode populations collected from Kangwon Province were identified as races 1 and 3; the nematode populations collected from Kyunggi Province were identified as race 3, 5 and c and those collected from Chungnam Province were identified as races 1 and 5. From the total 21 populations 11 populations or 52.4% of the total were race 1; 6 populations or 28.6% of the total were race 5; 3 populations or 14.3% of the total were race 3 and one population or 4.8% of the total were race c. Soybean cyst nematode populations from the same district, at least from the same 'myeon' district were identified as same race. Of these 4, race 3 has not been recorded in Korea yet.

A wideband correlator, with 45% relative bandwidth is proposed at the frequency range of 3.1-5.1GHz. The structures of the correlator components such as the delay line and the Wilkinson power divider are designed to be realized in transmission line form using the Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS). The correlator made by using three unique wideband 3-dB couplers, rat-race coupler and one 3-dB wilkinson power divider to reach the required bandwidth. The insertion loss, amplitude imbalance and phase imbalance between ports are presented. The proposed correlator makes compact size better than correlator of conventional structure.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of participation in the 622 km hyper-ultra-marathon on hepatic metabolism and renal function in middle-aged men. Healthy middle-aged male amateur ultra-marathoners between the ages of 40 and 60. Blood was collected at the pre-race, immediately after 300 km, 622 km hyper-ultra marathon race, 72 hours (3 day) and 144 hours (6 day) after the race, AST (aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (alanine aminotransferase), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), ${\gamma}$-GTP (gamma glutamyl transferase), T-Bil (total bilirubin), D-Bil (direct bilirubin), T-protein (total protein), albumin, uric acid, BUN (blood urea nitrogen), creatinne were analyzed. ALP was significantly increased at 300 km, 622 km, day 3 and day 6 than the pre-race. ${\gamma}$-GTP, T-protein, albumin, uric acid, BUN and creatinine were not significantly different between the distances and the recovery period respectively. AST and ALT were significantly increased at 300 km, 622 km, day 3 and day 6 than the pre-race, respectively (P<0.05) at day 3 and day 6 they showed significant decrease from 300 km and 622 km, respectively (P<0.05). T-Bil and D-Bil increased significantly at 300 km and 622 km, respectively (P<.05) and significantly decreased at day 3 (P<0.05) compared to the pre-race, at day 3 and day 6 they were decreased significantly than 300 km and 622 km, respectively (P<0.05). In conclusion, no disturbance of renal function was observed according to the distances and between the recovery period of 622 km hyper-ultra marathon race, but reversible hepatocyte function could be degraded and some hemolysis of blood vessels was induced.

In this paper, a broadband single balanced mixer is presented using a wideband rat-race implementation by vertical coupling. Frequency is selected as $1.5{\sim}3$ GHz for RF, $1.64{\sim}3.14$ GHz for LO, and 140 MHz for IF signals. When LO signal with 6 dBm at 2.7 GHz is injected, a conversion loss of 7.5 dB and RF to LO isolation of 30 dB are obtained. Also, an average conversion loss of 10 dB, RF to LO isolation of 30 dB, and LO to IF isolation of 45 dB are obtained for frequency band of $1.5{\sim}3$ GHz.

1. In order to investigate Physiologic races of Puccinia gramininis f. sp. tritici as basic materials for tile breeding of resistant varieties to stem rust of wheat, this experiment was carried out during 1971 and 1973. 2. Twenty seven isolates of the fungus were identified as follows: two isolates of race 11, eight . isolates of race 17, and 21, four isolates of race 34, one each of race 37 and 56, respectively The remaining three isolates identified were not identical with the key issued by Stakman, et at in 1962. Therefore, the three new races were tentatively numbered $K_3,\;K_4\; and\; K_4,$ in addition to $K_l\;and\;K_2$ described in 1961. 3. Therefore, attempts to produce resistant varieties to stem rust of wheat should be accompanied by intensive investigation of Physiologic races of p. graminis f. sp. tritici in the future.
