  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the validity and reliability of the Type D Scale-14 (DS14). Methods: The participants were 288 patients who were diagnosed with angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and hypertension. DS14 was developed by Denollet(2005) and consists of two domains, 7 items on negative affectivity (NA) and 7 items on social inhibition (SI). The Korean version of DS14 was developed through translation-reversed translation and a preliminary test. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire. Cronbach $\alpha$ and Guttman split-half were used to test reliability and item analysis and factor analysis for validity. The SPSS program was used. Results: 35.8% of the participants were classified as Type D. Mean score for NA was 16.80 and for SI, 14.10 in Type D participants. For reliability of NA, Cronbach $\alpha$=0.771, and for SI, 0.707. Factor analysis on 12 items(numbers 1 & 3 were excluded as the corrected item-total correlations were below r=0.3) yielded two factors for NA (6 items) and SI (6 items). Number 7 in the NA domain was sorted into the SI domain. Conclusion: The results indicate, the cultural differences were between Europeans and Koreans. Repetition of the research is needed for generalization of DS14.

  • A lot of studies have investigated the role of psychosocial and behavioral risk factors in the etiology and pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. On the basis of prospective population studies that found a relationship between Type A behavior and cardiac morbidity and mortality independent of traditional risk factors, Type A behavior was declared a risk factor for the development of coronary heart disease. Additionally, recently proposed, a new personality construct, Type D personality have been reported to be associated with the increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In Korea, however, there were few studies about these issues. This article attempts to provide an overview of accumulating evidences on the Type A behavioral pattern and Type D personality related with cardiovascular disease to offer new directions for research.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the personality trait of game users' game behavior and to investigate the differences according to demographic variables. For research, questionnaire survey was conducted for game users of 10~ 40's, and the collected data was analyzed and processed using the statistics package program SPSS 20.0. The results of the study showed that the Big 5 personality traits had a significant impact on game use, and in the case of Conscientiousness, most of them were positive for use of Adaptive games and most of them had negative effects on Maladaptive game use. Even in personal characteristics, a variable showing a significant influence on game use was found, which showed meaningful effects in game platform, game frequency, and occupation. In subsequent research, it is necessary to identify the variables such as types of games or platforms that can reflect characteristics of games, and to understand what kind of roles play in the relationship between game user characteristics and game use behavior.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of the type-D personality on quality of life and illness intrusiveness. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study. Data were collected using self-reported questionnaire from 200 patients with coronary artery disease(CAD). Variables were measured with the Type-D Scale-14(DS14), Korean Health Related Quality of Life Scale(KoQoLS), and the Illness Intrusiveness Rating Scale(ILRS). Results: Of the patients, 38% were classified as type-D personality. Among the 10 subcategories of quality of life, the highest mean score was bodily pain($5.84{\pm}2.85$) and the lowest was role limitation($1.52{\pm}1.20$). Among 13 item of illness intrusiveness, the highest mean score was health($3.78{\pm}1.73$) and the lowest was family relationships($2.14{\pm}1.58$). There were significant differences in all the subcategories of quality of life between type-D and non type-D except for subcategories of bodily pain and role limitation. However, there were no significant differences in illness intrusiveness between type-D and non type-D. Conclusion: Type-D is an important factor in quality of life in patients with CAD, but no correlations between type-D and illness intrusiveness were found. These results can be used as basic data for developing cardiac rehabilitation programs to improve quality of life in type-D patients.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the influencing effects of type D personality on symptom experiences and quality of life in percutaneous coronary intervention patients. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study design was used. A total of 158 patients with percutaneous coronary intervention participated in this study, between July 1 and November 1, 2015. Data were analyzed by means, standard deviations, t-test, $x^2$ test, ANCOVA, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0 program. Results: About 53.8% of participants were classified as type D personality. The type D personality group reported statistically significantly higher symptom experience, lower cardiac function, and lower cardiovascular-specific quality of life compared to non-type D personality group. On stepwise multiple regression, the most significant factor of quality of life was symptom experiences (adjusted $R^2=.25$, p<.001), followed by type D personality (adjusted $R^2=.31$, p<.001). Conclusion: Personality trait assessment is recommended for patients with percutaneous coronary intervention to assess symptom experiences and quality of life. In addition, development of nursing intervention might be beneficial to manage symptom experience and quality of life in percutaneous coronary intervention patients with type D personality.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of type D personality on health status and health promoting behaviors in middle-aged women. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used with 220 middle aged women. All participants completed 3 measuring tools: a 14-item Type D Personality Scale, a 12-item Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire version 2, and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile-version II. All were completed in November 2010. Results: The prevalence of type D personality was 34.5%. Type D women had significantly lower physical (p=.020) and mental health status (p<.001) compared with non-type D women. In addition Type D women reported significantly poorer performance of health responsibility (p=.015), physical activity (p=.001), nutrition (p=.027), spiritual growth (p<.001), interpersonal relations (p<.001) and stress management (p<.001) techniques in health behaviors than non-type D women. Conclusion: Type D personality is a vulnerability factor that affects health status and is associated with poor health promoting behaviors in middle aged women. Therefore, screening for Type D personality is important to detect women at risk for health status and quality of life in community settings in Korea.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to examine the relationship between type D personality and cardiovascular disease, and to suggest future research directions. Method: A literature search was conducted from the following nine databases: 1) MEDLINE, 2) CINAHL, 3) Pubmed Unrestricted, 4) PsycINFO, 5) KISS, 6) RICHIS, 7) RISS4U, and 8) Nanet. The combinations of the words, "type D personality", "personality", "heart", "cardiovascular", and "coronary" were used for keyword searches to find relevant articles. Twenty eight studies were identified. Result: Type D personality has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality in patients with established cardiovascular disease. Type D patients are also at increased risk for impaired quality of life, and seem to benefit less from medical and invasive treatment. Conclusion: There is substantial evidence for a relationship between type D personality and clinical outcomes related to cardiovascular disease. Randomized clinical trials are needed to further evaluate the value of controlling type D personality to improve survival and reduce morbidity in patients with cardiovascular disease. Accumulating evidence from this analysis indicates the urgent need to adopt a personality approach in order to optimize the identification of patients at risk for stress related cardiac events.

  • With rapid development of technology for strong AI chatbot, the role of chatbot has been extended from conducting simple tasks to being a friend or counsellor. For this newly emerging purpose of chatbot, endowment of personality is important to make the chatbot regarded as a human being. Nevertheless I found that there are few guides about it. Thus, this study identifies the proper personality of chatbot depending on the purpose of services and user types. The purposes of chatbot services are divided into three types such as leisure-time, counselling, and task. The DISC theory is used for categorizing personality, which consists of 4 types such as dominance(D), inducement(I), submission(S), and compliance(C). An interview and survey were conducted to investigate the preferred personality of chatbot and contents for leisure-time. As results, people tend to prefer people-oriented types such as I, S for their leisure time, task-oriented types such as D,C for their task, and slow types such as C,S for counselling. Women prone to prefer neutral gender except for counselling and men tend to prefer female in all chatbot services. Preferred chatbot age is either same or younger age for leisure-time, same or older for counselling, and 30's for tasks. Preferred contents for leisure-time are mostly recent information but many 20's want fun contents and 50-70's want emphatic conversation. 30-50's want honorific but 20's and 60-70's don't care. The research results useful guide on proper personality of AI chatbot for each purpose of its service.
