The objective of this study was to estimate the parameters of Gompertz growth curves with the measurements of body conformation, real-time ultrasound longissimus dorsi muscle area (LMA) and backfat thickness (BFT) in Hanwoo cows. The Hanwoo cows (n = 3,373) were born in 97 Hanwoo commercial farms in the 17 cities or counties of Gyeongbuk province, Korea, between 2000 and 2007. A total of 5,504 ultrasound measurements were collected for the cows at the age of 13 to 165 months in 2007 and 2008. Wither height (HW), rump height (HR), the horizontal distance between the top of the hips (WH), and girth of chest (GC) were also measured. Analysis of variance was conducted to investigate variables affecting LMA and BFT. The effect of farm nested in location was included in the statistical model, as well as the effects of HW, HR, WH, and GC as covariates. All of the effects were significant in the analysis of variance for LMA and BFT (p<0.01), except for the HR effect for LMA. The two ultrasound measures and the four body conformation traits were fitted to a Gompertz growth curve function to estimate parameters. Upper asymptotic weights were estimated as $54.0cm^2$, 7.67 mm, 125.6 cm, 126.4 cm, 29.3 cm, and 184.1 cm, for LMA, BFT, HW, HR, WH, and GC, respectively. Results of ultrasound measurements showed that Hanwoo cows had smaller LMA and greater BFT than other western cattle breeds, suggesting that care must be taken to select for thick BFT rather than an increase of only beef yield. More ultrasound records per cow are needed to get accurate estimates of growth curve, which, thus, helps producers select animals with high accuracy.
Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) composites have drawn increasing attentions worldwide for decades due to its outstanding properties. Stress concentration factor (SCF) as an essential parameter in materials science are critically considered in structure design and application, strength assessment and failure prediction. However, investigation of stress concentration in FRP composites has been rarely reported so far. In this study, three resource-conserving analyses (Isotropic analysis, Orthotropic analysis and Finite element analysis) were introduced to plot the $K_T^A-d/W$ curve for E-glass/epoxy composite plate with the geometrical defect of circular hole placed centrally. The plates were loaded to uniaxial direction for simplification. Finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out via ACP (ANSYS composite prepost module). Based on the least squares method, a simple expression of fitting equation could be given based on the simulated results of a set of discrete points. Finally, all three achievable solutions were presented graphically for explicit comparison. In addition, the investigation into customized efficient SCFs has also been carried out for further reference.
Records on 546 Korea native pigs for average daily gain (ADG), age at 70 kg (D70 kg) and backfat thickness (BF) made between 2001 and 2006 in herds on National Institutes of Animal Science in Korea were used to estimate genetic parameters. The data was analyzed by the DF-REML (Derivative-Free Restricted Maximum Likelihood) program of Boldman using a single-trait animal model. Heritabilities were 0.26, 0.09, and 0.29 for ADG, D70 kg and BF, respectively. The phenotypic correlations of ADG with D70 kg and BF were -0.71 and 0.30. The phenotypic correlation of D70 kg with BF was -0.15. The genetic correlations of ADG with D70 kg and BF were -0.11, 0.41, respectively. The genetic correlation of D70 kg with BF was -0.16. The data of weights and measurements on body length, body height and chest width after age at 11 months (days to 330) were shown scarcely less differences compare to data of age at 11 months.
In this study, flood stage was computed by HEC-RAS, 1-D numerical analysis model and FESWMS-2DH, 2-D numerical model. Flood stages computed by two different models were compared for straight line, dot axle watercourse, dead-zone watercourse, section sudden-changing watercourse, and curved watercourse. From the results, flow velocity and water level were similar in straight watercourse and dot-reduction watercourse. However, there was difference of flow velocity and water level in dead-zone watercourse, sudden expansion, dot-reduction, and curve-watercourse. This result might be influenced by rapid change of watercourse due to dead-zone, the angle of inflow and outflow, and the curvature. Especially in this study, numerical model was applied to Wol-Song-Cheon at Chuncheon in order to analyze the effect of flood stage by two different models. By flowing properties around the bridge and confluence of rivers, it was found that flow velocity and water level was changed. Therefore, it was concluded that a lot of uncertainties are contained in the present bank.

This paper describes an automated detection algorithm of ST-T episodes using global curvature which can connect the isoelectric level in ECG and can eliminate not only the slope of ST segment, but also difference of the baseline and global curve. This above method of baseline correction is very faster than the classical baseline correction methods. The optimal values of parameters for baseline correction were found as the value having the highest detection rate of ST episode. The features as input of backpropagation Neural Network were extracted from the whole ST segment. The European ST-T database was used as training and test data. Finally, ST elevation, ST depression and normal ST were classified. The average ST episode sensitivity and predictivity were 85.42%, 80.29%, respectively. This result shows the high speed and reliability in ST episode detection. In conclusion, the proposed method showed the possibility in various applications for the Holter system.
The pharmacokinetics of nimodipine, following a single 16 mg/kg oral dose, was investigated in rabbits with hepatic failure induced by 0.5 mL/kg (mild), 1.0 mL/kg (moderate) and 2.0 mL/kg (severe) of carbon tetrachloride $(CCl_{4}$ : olive oil = 20 : 80, v/v). The plasma concentrations of nimodipine were determined by a high performance liquid chromatographic assay. The levels of sGOT and sGPT in rabbits with mild $(86.2{\pm}29.0\;and\;98.5{\pm}33.1\;unit/dL)$, moderate $(168.1{\pm}61.2\;and\;196.2{\pm}66.0\;unit/dL)$ and severe $(292.7{\pm}82.2\;and\;314.2{\pm}99.8\;unit/dL)$ hepatic failure were significantly increased compared to the control $(38.0{\pm}10.1\;and\;32.4{\pm}10.2\;unit/dL)$. The area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of nimodipine was significantly increased in mild $(131.7{\pm}28.1%)$, moderate $(168.8{\pm}32.8%)$ and severe $(204.6{\pm}58.3%)$ carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic failure rabbits compared to the control (100%) rabbits. The volume of distribution $(V_{d})$ and the total body clearance $(CL_{t})$ of nimodipine were significantly decreased in all hepatic failure groups. The elimination rate constant $(K_{el})$ of nimodipine was significantly decreased in moderate and severe carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic failure rabbits. There was a correlation between sGOT (y= 1.01x+241, r=0.993) or sGPT (y=0.92x +243, r=0.997) value and the AUC of nimodipine in the rabbits with hepatic failure. These findings suggest that the hepatic metabolism of nimodipine was inhibited by carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic failure rabbits, resulting in the decrese in $V_{d}$ and $CL_{t}$ of nimodipine in the rabbits with mild, moderate and severe hepatic failure.

Univariate frequency analyses are widely used in practical hydrologic design. However, a storm event is usually characterized by amount, intensity, and duration of the storm. To fully understand these characteristics and to use them appropriately in hydrologic design, a multivariate statistical approach is necessary. This study applied a Gumbel mixed model to a bivariate storm frequency analysis using hourly rainfall data collected for 46 years at the Seoul rainfall gauge station in Korea. This study estimated bivariate return periods of a storm such as joint return periods and conditional return periods based on the estimation of joint cumulative distribution functions of storm characteristics. These information on statistical behaviors of a storm can be of great usefulness in the analysis and assessment of the risk associated with hydrologic design problems.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior and characteristics of rubber springs and calculate the compressive stiffness by performing dynamic compression tests of rubber springs. In order to carry out the dynamic compression test of rubber spring, total 9 rubber springs were tailored by calculating the shape factor of L80-D55, L90-D58, and L100-D60, and used for the experiments. Experiments were performed by controlling the compression according to the length of the rubber spring, and the compression was increased in the order of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% of the strain. From the experimental results, the force-strain curves were obtained and it was confirmed that strength decrease and strength increase phenomenon occurred as the strain increased. In addition, it was confirmed that the decrease of stiffness and the increase of stiffness were clearly observed according to the size and diameter of the rubber spring, and the effective compression stiffness was estimated using the slope of the force-strain curve. By using the effective compressive stiffness, design values that can be used in actual design were presented.
The Monte Carlo simulation requires very much time to obtain a result of acceptable accuracy. Therefore we should know the optimum number of history not to sacrifice time as well as the accuracy. In this study, we have investigated the effects of statistical uncertainties of the photon dose calculation. BEAMnrc and DOSXYZnrc systems were used for the Monte Carlo dose calculation and the case of mediastinum was simulated. The several dose calculation result from various number of histories had been obtained and analyzed using the criteria of isodose curve comparison, dose volume histogram comparison(DVH) and root mean-square differences(RMSD). Statistical uncertainties were observed most evidently in isodose curve comparison and RMSD while DVHs were less sensitive. The acceptable uncertainties $(\bar{{\Delta}D})$ of the Monte Carlo photon dose calculation for the radiation therapy were estimated within total 9% error or 1% error for over than $D_{max}/2$ voxels or voxels at maximum dose.

The present study was conducted to develop a rapid and accurate method of evaluating chemical composition of total mixed ration (TMR) for dairy cows using near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS). A total of 253 TMR samples were collected from TMR manufacturers and dairy farms in Korea. Prior to NIR analysis, TMR samples were dried at $65^{\circ}C$ for 48 hour and then ground to 2 mm size. The samples were scanned at 2 nm interval over the wavelength range of 400-2500 nm on a FOSS-NIR Systems Model 6500. The values obtained by NIR analysis and conventional chemical methods were compared. Generally, the relationship between chemical analysis and NIR analysis was linear: $R^2$ and standard error of calibration (SEC) were 0.701 (SEC 0.407), 0.965 (SEC 0.315), 0.796 (SEC 0.406), 0.889 (SEC 0.987), 0.894 (SEC 0.311), 0.933 (SEC 0.885) and 0.889 (SEC 1.490) for moisture, crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber, crude ash, acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), respectively. In addition, the standard error of prediction (SEP) value was 0.371, 0.290, 0.321, 0.380, 0.960, 0.859 and 1.446 for moisture, crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber, crude ash, ADF and NDF, respectively. The results of the present study showed that the NIR analysis for unknown TMR samples would be relatively accurate. Use of the developed NIR calibration curve can obtain fast and reliable data on chemical composition of TMR. Collection and analysis of more TMR samples will increase accuracy and precision of NIR analysis to TMR.
