  • The heat transfer and flow measurements on a cylindrical pedestal mounted on a flat surface with a turbulent impinging jet were made. The experiments were made for the jet Reynolds number of Re = 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance of L/d = 2~10, the dimensionless pedestal height of H/D = 0~1.5. Measurements of the surface temperature and the Nusselt number distributions on the plate surface were made using liquid crystal and shroud-transient technique. Flow measurements involve smoke flow visualization and the wall pressure coefficient. The results show that the wall pressure coefficient sharply decreases along the upper surface of the pedestal. However, the pressure increases when the fluid escapes from the pedestal and then collides on the plate surface. The secondary maxima in the Nusselt numbers occur in the region of 1.0 $\leq$ r/d $\leq$ 1.9. Their values for the case of H/D = 0.5 are maximum 80% higher than those for other cases. The formation of the secondary maxima may be attributed to the reattachment of flow on the plate surface which was separated at the edge of the pedestal.

  • The heat transfer and flow measurements were made on a cylindrical pedestal mounted on a flat plate with a turbulent impinging air jet. The heat transfer coefficient distributions on the flat plate were measured using the shroud-transient technique and liquid crystal was used to measure the surface temperature. The jet Reynolds number (Re) is 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10, the dimensionless pedestal diameter-to-height (H/D) from 0 to 1.5, the dimensionless 2nd pedestal diameter-to-height ($H/D_2$) from 0 to 0.4 and the distance from the stagnation point to 2nd pedestal (p/D). The results show that for H/D = 0.5 to 1.5, the Nusselt number distributions on the plate surface exhibit a maximum between $r/d\;{\cong}\;1.0$ and 1.5. The presence of the pedestal appears to cause the flow separation and reattachment on the plate surface, which results in the maximum heal transfer coefficient. Also, for p/D = 2.5 and $H/D_2$ = 0.3, the local Nusselt number in the region corresponding to $r/d\;{\cong}\;1.1$ was increased up to 50% compared to that for $H/D_2=0$.

  • The heat transfer and flow measurements on a pedestal encountered in chip cooling. A uniform wall temperature boundary condition at the plate surface and on a pedestal was created using shroud method. Liquid crystal was used to measure the plate surface temperature. The jet Reynolds number (Re) ranges from 11,000 to 50,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10, and the dimensionless pedestal diameter-to-height (H/D) from 0 to 1.0. The results show that the Nusselt number distributions at the near the pedestal exhibit secondary maxima at $r/d{\cong}1.0\;and\;1.5$. The formation of the secondary maxima is attributed to an create in the vortex by the pedestal.

  • A numerical simulation is performed for the cooling heat transfer of a heated cylindrical pedestal by an axisymmetric jet impingement. Based on the k- $\varepsilon$- f$\sub$${\mu}$/ model of Park et at., the linear and nonlinear stress-strain relations are extended. The Reynolds number based on the jet diameter(D) is fixed at Re$\sub$D/ = 23000. The local heat transfer coefficients are compared with available experimental data. The predictions by k- $\varepsilon$-f$\sub$${\mu}$/ model are in good agreement with the experiments, whereas the standard 7- f model does not properly resolve the flow structures.

  • In this study, we describe the mechanical design of the cylindrical workpiece inspection system which that can inspect the workpiece machined in the CNC lathe. The workpiece automatic measuring device is composed of a workpiece aligning mechanism, a workpiece diameter measuring mechanism, and a workpiece height measuring mechanism. If the workpiece machined on the CNC lathe is placed on the pedestal of the cylindrical workpiece inspection system, the workpiece aligning mechanism moves the workpiece to the diameter-measuring position and the height- measuring positions, and the diameter-measuring mechanism and the height- measuring mechanisms sequentially measure the diameter and the height of the workpiece. The cylindrical workpiece inspection system was designed and manufactured. The characteristic experiment was conducted to confirm the operation of the machine tool of the cylindrical workpiece inspection system. As a The result of the characteristic test shows that, the workpiece automatic measuring device operated safely.

  • A large scale resonant column testing equipment is under development. The would-be equipment is aiming to test 150mm-diameter specimens, which can contain as large a grain size as 25mm. Such a large specimen is hardly excitated with the existing fixed-free end condition because the torsional force cannot be effectively coupled to the specimen. The specimen will be rather resonated with free-free condition and the scheme is implemented with a rotational bearing installed between coil-magnet exciter and base pedestal. Presently the equipment was assembled and is under calibration with a cylindrical brass specimen.

  • This article deals with some issues with respect to the Mahan pottery excavated from the tombs. Pedestal jars with cover, small round-bottom jars, cylindrical pottery etc. had appeared in the interaction with the northern region in the dimension of the southern Korean peninsula. Especially, these relics had an important role at the route connecting the midwest region, Chungcheong(忠淸) inland and Yeongnam(嶺南) region. By this stage, the iron culture was similar to each other in the southern Korean peninsula. In addition to the inland route, the coastal passage along the west coast seems to have been used. Such signs are found in cylindrical pottery and Pedestal jars with cover. It was probably a natural phenomenon that the most powerful forces of Mahan appeared at this crossroad of cultural exchange. The unique style of Mahan pottery such as double-rim pottery had been established since the third century. After the third century, Mahan pottery varied by region depending on the tomb style. The difference roughly matches with the variations of the tomb style. But at the region of Bungumyo(mounded tomb), specific pottery such double-rim pottery had been prevalent than in other regions. And a specific style had been used in a narrow range. The pottery spread to the neighboring regions in the course of interaction and were also used in ritual practices.

  • In this study, a scientific analysis of the gold leaf layers and internal structure of the Clay Seated Vairocana Buddha Triad in Seonunsa Temple, Gochang (Treasure No. 1752) was conducted. The surface of the Buddha statues is a gold foil, and the gold leaf layer consists of four layers. The gold leaf layer first composed on the molding clay was produced in the order of lacquer-fabrics-lacquer-gold foil. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the work was performed three times in the same way. The composition of the Buddha statues was divided into the head, body or upper body, lower body, and pedestal. The body was made in a cylindrical form by connecting vertically oriented wooden materials, and the head and lower body were also connected to the body in an empty form. Thus, the head, body, and lower body are grafted structures that are connected to a single Bokjang-gong. It was confirmed that the Clay Seated Vairocana Buddha Triad in Seonunsa Temple was made using wood materials for the basic form, after which the detailed form was created with molding clay, and the surface was finished with a process of layering gold foil and substances presumed to be lacquer.

  • This paper investigates Buddhist sculptures of the Gulsan-sa School of Seon Buddhism, which was established by the priest Beomil(梵日) at Myeongju(溟州), present-day Gangneung(江陵) area, and prospered until the late Goryeo period. There are very few surviving Buddhist images at Gulsan2 temple-site showing the Buddhist art when Beomil or his disciples, Gaecheong(開淸) and Haengjeok(行寂), were active, except a set of huge stone pillars for temple-banners and a stone monk stupa. It is therefore necessary to focus on pieces of artworks in Gangneung and nearby areas to explore the characteristics of Buddhist art of Gulsan-sa from the late Silla to early Goryeo period. For example, the stone relief seated Buddha image, one of Four Buddhas of Four Directions, and a stone relief of standing Guardian King both from the stone pagoda at Mujin temple-site(無盡寺址) can be compared with stupa reliefs at the capital Gyeongju area in their high quality of carving. The stone octagonal base showing seven lions on each of seven sides at Boheon-sa(普賢寺) demonstrates that it was made as a part of an octagonal lotus pedestal for a Vairocana Buddha now lost. Since Boheon-sa was erected by Gaechung, a disciple of Beomil as a branch of Gulsan-sa, it is fair to assume that the Vairocana image at Boheon-sa might have been closely related to the Buddhist images at Gulsan-sa in its style and iconography. The stone seated Bodhisattva from Hansong temple-site(寒松寺址) displays a benign face, exquisite necklace, and exotic iconography in its hand gesture and high cylindrical crown. The stone seated Buddha at Cheonghak-sa(靑鶴寺), brought from a temple-site where fragments of roof-tiles with the inscription of Heukam-sa(黑岩寺) were discovered, displays the late Silla and early Goryeo period. Heukam-sa seems to have been related to Gulsan-sa or have been one of the branches of Gulsan-sa. Extant fragments of artworks at Myeongju implicate the high quality of Buddhist art of Gulsan-sa in its iconography and style as well as unique features of Gulsan-sa Seon School.
