Three-dimensional, time-dependent solutions of fluid flow past a circular cylinder with a periodic array of circular fins are obtained using an accurate and efficient spectral multidomain methodology. A Fourier expansion with a corresponding uniform grid is used along the circumferential direction. A spectral multidomain method with Chebyshev collocation is used along the r-z plane to handle the periodic array of circular fins attached to the surface of the cylinder. Unlike the flow past a circular cylinder, Second instabilities like mode A and mode B are not found in the Reynolds number range $100\~500$. It is found that three-dimensional instability of vortical structures is suppressed due to the presence of fin. The present numerical solutions report the detailed information of flow quantities near wake of finned cylinder.

In this paper, an analysis and design method is proposed, which is to improve the directivity of microstrip array antennas conformed to a cylindrical surface. In the case of forming an arc-array in the circumferential direction on a circula-cylinder surface, the circular-cylinder can be approximated to a polygonal-pillar and on each pillar-planes the sub-arrays, Dolph-Tschebyscheff array and uniform array with a beam steered in the desired direction, would make a sharp directivity for the total cylin- drical array antenna. And the radiation pattern according to the type of its sub arrays is analyzed and compared using the cylindrical-cavity codel. A cylindrical microstrip array antenna, with 12 elements and uniform arra as a sub-array which have an equal distance$\lambda_0$/2between the elements, is manufactured and conformed to a cylinder with radius of 6 The measured data of side lobe level, HPBW and FNBW are - 13dB, $9^{\circ}$, and $15{\circ}$, ,respectively. This result shows a good improvement on the directivity comparing with a linear array.

Heat exchanger tube array in a heat recovery steam generator is exposed to the hot exhaust gas flow and it could cause the flow induced vibration, which could damage the heat exchanger tube array. It is needed to establish the characteristics of flow induced vibration in the tube array for the structural safe operation of the heat exchanger. Several researches for the flow induced vibration of typical heat exchangers had been conducted and the nondimensional PSD(Power Spectral Density) function with the Strouhal number, fD/U, had been derived by experimental method. The present study examined the results of the previous experimental researches for the nondimensional PSD characteristics by CFD analysis and the basis for the application of flow induced vibration to the heat recovery steam generator tube array would be prepared from the present CFD analysis. For the previous mentioned purpose, the present CFD analysis introduced circular cylinder tube array and calculated with the unsteady laminar flow for the tube array. The characteristics of lift fluctuation over the cylinder tube array was investigated. The derived nondimensional PSD was compared with the results of the previous experimental researches and the characteristics of lift PSD for circular cylinder tube array was established from the present CFD study.
A parametric study has been carried out to elucidate the characteristics of channel flow with a streamwise-periodic array of cylinders. This flow configuration is relevant to heat exchanger applications. The presence of cylinders in channel flow causes the attached wall boundary layer to separate, leading to significant change in flow instabilities. There exist two kinds of instabilities; flow undergoes a primary instability (Hopf bifurcation) at a lower Reynolds number, and the unsteady two-dimensional flow becomes unstable to three-dimensional disturbances at a higher Reynolds number. We report here the dependencies of the primary instability as well as the flow characteristics of the subsequent unsteady flow, including flow-induced forces and Strouhal number of vortex shedding, on the distance between the cylinder and the channel wall.

A method for estimating the cylindrical shape of a sound radiator is presented. It assumes that sound field can be measured by a linear array. A sound field, due to the radiator vibrating with uniform velocity, can be determined by its shape, size, and orientations. Measured data also can be varying from the array's position. To predict the shape of radiators from these measured data, mathematical relation between geometric parameter and measured information is needed. Assume that a radiator is cylinder, the magnitude and phase of measured pressure is related with the length and diameter of radiator, respectively. In this paper, the method for estimating length and shape of a finite cylinder by using its radiated pressure is proposed and verified through experiment.
In a multiple array of vertical cylinders, flaw patterns are very complex and very interactive between cylinders. The patterns are turbulent and non-linear depending on various factors. The gap and flow incoming velocity of upstream can affect on the downstream cylinder. In this study, the flaw characteristics around two vertical cylinders are investigated numerically and experimentally. As the gap between cylinders is changed at fixed coming velocity, the pressure distributions around cylinders are observed and compared by experimental and numerical approaches. The F.D.M and multi-block method are applied in the study. The pressures at 12 points around the cylinder are measured in the experiment. The results can be applied in the understanding and design of multiple pile array structures.

Experiments have been performed to investigate fluid-elastic instability of tube bundles, subjected to twophase cross flow. Fluid-elastic is the most important vibration excitation mechanism for heat exchanger tube bundles subjected to the cross flow. The test section consists of cantilevered flexible cylinder(s) and rigid cylinders of normal square array. From a practical design point of view, fluid-elastic instability may be expressed simply in terms of dimensionless flow velocity and dimensionless mass-damping parameter. For dynamic instability of cylinder rows, added mass, damping and the threshold flow velocity are evaluated. The Fluid-elastic instability coefficient is calculated and then compared to existing results given for tube bundles in normal square array.

The interaction of incident manochromatic waves with an array of N surface-piercing porous dual cylindrical structures is investigated in the frame of three-dimensional linear potential theory. The dual cylindrical structure is camposed of concentric two cylinders. The exterior cylinder is porous and the interior cylinder is impermeable. The fluid domain is divided into N+1 regions i.e. a single exterior region and N interior regions. The diffraction potentials in each region representing the scattering of incident waves by an array of porous cylindrical structures are expressed by the Fourier Bessel series. The unknown coefficients in each region are determined by applying the porous boundary condition and continuity of mass flux at the matching boundary. It is found that an array of porous cylindrical structures reduces both the wave forces and the wave run-up, and shows the excellent performance of wave blocking. The results show that various types of breakwater exchanging seawater are prospective by controlling the porosity and the configuration of cylindrical structures.
