  • As a result of the faunistic study on the subterranean cyclopoid copepods, four species of three genera in the family Cyclopidae are reported from nine limestone caves and a lava tube in South Korea: Megacyclops magnus (Marsh, 1920), Acanthocyclops orientalis Borutzky, 1966, A, robustus (Sars, 1863) and Diacyclops suoensis Ito, 1956, all of them new to Korean fauna. This paper deals with the taxonomic accounts and illustrations of the four species with the redescription of A. orientalis. This is the first taxonomic study on the cave-dwelling cyclopoid copepods from Korea.

  • A taxonomic study on the genus Tropocyclops has been accomplished as a part of the series of studies on the freshwater cyclopoid copepods in South Korea. As a result, the Tropocyclops prasinus, hitherto known from Korea in many reports and papers, turns out to be a species complex of three sibling species: T. prasinus (Fischer, 1860), T. ishidai n. sp., and T. setulifer n. sp. This paper deals with description of two of these new species with taxonomic accounts on their inter- or intraspecific morphological discrepancies.

  • A new cyclopoid species belonging to the genus Acanthocyclops is described from several mountain springs in South Korea. This species is allied to A. kieferi species group in sharing 11-segmented antennules, but is, clearly distinguished from them by its single apical spine on the third endopodal segment of leg 4 and an extra spine on the distal segment of leg 5 in both sexes.

  • The hyporheic zone is an ecologically important area for investigating habitat biodiversity. However, only few studies have been conducted on this aspect in Korea. This study aimed to investigate the distribution of arthropod communities in the hyporheic zone of Nakdonggang River between 2012 and 2013. The meiobenthic arthropod communities found in the hyporheic zone were identified using a stereomicroscope and classified into 9 taxanomic groups. The abundance of arthropod communities was higher in the hyporheic zones of streams having well-formed sandbanks and gravelly areas. The arthropod communities found along the Nakdonggang River differed depending on the conditions of levees and the regions of the river from where they were collected. The frequency of species of the order Harpacticoida was high in the Nakdonggang main stream and western downstream region. The abundance of species belonging to Cyclopidae was high in the upstream region, midstream region, and eastern downstream region of the river. The frequency of species of the order Bathynellacea was high in the riverside parks or cement levees, but that of species belonging to Cyclopidae was high in the natural levees and gabion levees. Our findings suggested that arthropod communities preferred natural levees.

  • A taxonomic study on the genus Mesocyclops has been accomplished as one of the serial researches on the freshwater cyclopoid cope pods in South Korea. As a result, five species are recognized: M. leuckarti (Claus), M. pehpeiensis Hu, M. dissimilis Defaye and Kawabata, M. woutersi Van de Verde, and M. mariae Guo. Of these, M. dissimilis, M. woutersi, and M. mariae are new to Korean fauna. Morphological details of each species and the intraspecific variabilities are commented. A key to the species of genus Mesocyclops known from Korea is provided.

As a result, the 'Eucyclops serrulatus', hitherto known from Korea through many reports and papers, turns out to be a species complex of six sibling species: E. serrulatus (Fischer), E. roseus Ishida, E speratus (Lilljeborg), E. pacificus Ishida, E. ohtakai Ishida, and I tsushimensis Ishida Taxonomic accounts on their detailed interspecific discrepancies and intraspecific variabilities are presented. A key to the Eucyclops serrulatus group from the Far East is also provided.

  • Two freshwater cyclopoid species including a new species are added to Korean copepod fauna: Ochridacyclops coreensis n. sp. and Itocyclops yezoensis (Ito, 1953). Both species were collected from the semi-subterranean waters like springs and wells. The present paper deals with the description of the new species and the systematic accounts on the two species, based on the morphological character comparison with the related congeners.
