Fretting fatigue is often the root cause of the nucleation of cracks at attachments of structural components. Since fretting fatigue damage accumulation occurs over relatively small volumes, the subsurface cyclic plastic strain is expected to be rather non-uniformly distributed in polycrystalline materials. The scale of the cyclic plasticity and the damage process zones is often on the order of microstructure dimensions. Fretting damage analyses using cyclic crystal plasticity constitutive models have the potential to account for the influence of size, morphology, and crystallographic orientation of grains on fretting damage evolution. Two-dimensional plane strain simulations of fretting fatigue are performed using the cyclic properties of Ti-6Al-4V. The crystal plasticity simulations are compared to an initially isotropic $J_{2}$ theory with nonlinear kinematic hardening as well as to experiments. The influence of initially isotropic versus textured microstructure in the presence of crystallographic slip is studied.
The aramid fiber reinforced metal laminates(AFRMLs) used for the wing part fair flight suffer the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude during service. The fatigue crack propagation and delamination behavior in AFRMLs containing a saw-cut and circular hole was investigated using the average stress criterion(ASC) model. Mechanical tests were carried out using the cyclic bending moment of 4.9 N . m and delamination was observed by ultrasonic C-scan images. In case of AFRMLs containing a saw-cut fatigue crack propagated in aluminum matrix, inducing delamination. However, in case of AFRMLs containing a circular hole, delamination formed with two types under cyclic bending moment of 4.9 N . m. First, delamination formed along the fatigue crack in aluminum matrix. Second, delamination formed without any fatigue crack around the circular hole. Therefore, delamination was formed depending on the stress distribution near the circular hole.
Low cycle fatigue test was performed by companion specimens method to compare the properties of cyclic strain for the weldments of controlled rolling steel CR60 and welding structural steel SM58Q. And the result does not showed any difference of low cycle fatigue life between weldments. Especially, the values of coefficient of cyclic plastic strain $C_{p}$ and exponent of cyclic plastic strain $K_{p}$ of heat affected zones of CR60 steel and SM58Q steel were same. And $C_{p}$ and $K_{p}$ of CR60 steel were equal to the values of weld it means a good combination between the base metal, the heat affected zone and the weld of CR60 steel.eel.eel.
Fretting damage reduces fatigue life of the material due to low amplitude cyclic sliding and changes in the contact surfaces of strongly connected machine and structures such as bolt, key, fixed rivet and connected shaft, which have relative slip of repeatedly very low frequency amplitude. In this study, the fretting fatigue behavior of 7050-T7451 aluminum alloys used mainly in aircraft and automobile industry were evaluated. The plain fatigue test and fretting fatigue test under cyclic bending load carried out commercial bending fatigue tester and specially devised equipments to cause fretting damage. From these experimental work, the following results obtained: (1) The plain fatigue limit for stress ratio R=-l was about 151MPa. (2) In case of fretting fatigue, fatigue limit for stress ratio R=-l about 72MPa, the fatigue limit for R=0 about 81MPa, and the fatigue limit for R=0.3 about 93MPa. (3) The fatigue limit reduction rates by the fretting damage were about 52%(R=-1), 46%(R=0) and 38%(R=0.3) respectively. (4) The fatigue limit reduction rate decreased with stress ratio increase. In fretting bending test, as stress ratio increased, occurrence of initial oblique crack by fretting decreased or phased out, so that fracture surfaces were formed by plain fatigue crack occurrence, and such tendency was notable as stress amplitude increased. (5) Tire tracks and rubbed scars were observed in the fracture surface and contacted surface.
Objectives: To compare the fatigue life of Tango-Endo, WaveOne GOLD, and Reciproc NiTi instruments under static model via artificial canals with different angles of curvature. Materials and Methods: Reciproc R25, WaveOne GOLD Primary, and Tango-Endo instruments were included in this study (n = 20). All the instruments were rotated in artificial canals which were made of stainless steel with an inner diameter of 1.5 mm, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ angles of curvatures and a radius of curvature of 5 mm until fracture occurred, and the time to fracture was recorded in seconds using a digital chronometer. The data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and post-hoc Dunn tests were used for the statistical analysis of data in SPSS 21.0 software. Results: Tango-Endo files were found to have significantly higher values than WaveOne GOLD and Reciproc files in terms of fatigue life (p < 0.05). However, there was no statistically significant difference between fatigue life of Reciproc and WaveOne GOLD files (p > 0.05). It was determined that increasing the angle of curvature of the stainless canals caused significant decreases in fatigue life of all of three files (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present study, the cyclic fatigue life of Tango-Endo in canals having different angles of curvature was statistically higher than Reciproc and WaveOne GOLD.

Aluminum 5052/Aramid Fiber Reinforced Plastic(Al5052/AFRP) laminates are applied to the fuselage-wing intersection. The Al5052/AFRP laminates suffer from the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude during the service. Therefore, the influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in Al5052/AFRP laminate was investigated in this study. Al5052/AFRP laminate composite consists of three thin sheets of Al5052 and two layers of unidirectional aramid fibers. The cyclic bending moment fatigue tests were performed with five different levels of bending moment. The shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack between Al5052 sheet and aramid fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan. The relationships between da/dN and ΔK, between the cyclic bending moment and the delamination zone size, and between the fiber bridging mechanism and the delamination zone were studied. Fiber failures were not observed in the delamination zone in this study. It represents that the fiber bridging modification factor should turn out to increase and that the fatigue crack growth rate should decrease. The shape of delamination zone turns out to be semi-elliptic with the contour decreased non-linearly toward the crack tip.
Constant-load-amplitude fatigue crack growth tests were carried out on 5083-0 aluminum alloy under elastic and elastic-plastic conditions. Crack length, crack closure and monotonic fatigue deformation were measured by Kikukawa's unloading elastic compliance monitoring technique and elastic-plastic fatigue crack growth rates were analysed in terms of J integral. Elastic-plastic fatigue crack growth rates can be well expressed by effective cyclic J integral until general yielding occurs. Beyond general yielding, monotonic fatigue deformation becomes significant and growth rates cannot be characterized by a single parameter of effective cyclic J integral alone. However, introducing one more parameter, maximum J integral J$_{max}$ to account for the effect of monotonic fatigue deformation, can explain fatigue crack growth behavior beyond general yielding.
Static and cyclic fatigue tests were carried out for alumina specimen to study the statistical analyses (normal, lognormal and Weibull distribution) of fatigue lifetime data and nominal initial crack length data. Fatigue lifetime data followed Weibull distribution better than normal or lognormal distribution, for the shape parameter of the notched specimen was larger than that of the unnotched specimen. The nominal initial crack length data obtained from fatigue lifetime followed the lognormal and Weibull distribution better than normal distribution, for the coefficient of variation of the unnotched specimen was larger than that of the notched specimen, and shape parameter of unnotched specimen was smaller than that of the notched specimen.
This paper proposes a noncontact thermography technique for fatigue crack evaluation under a cyclic tensile loading. The proposed technique identifies and localizes an invisible fatigue crack without scanning, thus making it possible to instantaneously evaluate an incipient fatigue crack. Based on a thermoelastic theory, a new fatigue crack evaluation algorithm is proposed for the fatigue crack-tip localization. The performance of the proposed algorithm is experimentally validated. To achieve this, the cyclic tensile loading is applied to a dog-bone shape aluminum specimen using a universal testing machine, and the corresponding thermal responses induced by thermoelastic effects are captured by an infrared camera. The test results confirm that the fatigue crack is well identified and localized by comparing with its microscopic images.
