The Buck DC-DC Converter with Non-Linear Instantaneous Following PWM Control Method (비선형 순시추종형 PWM 제어기법을 적용한 강압형 DC-DC 컨버터)

  • Instantaneous following PWM control technique is pulsed nonlinear dynamic control method. This new control technique using analog integrator is proposed to control the duty ratio D of do-dc converter. In this control method, the duty ratio of a switch is exactly equal In or proportional to the control reference in the steady state or in a transient. Proposed control method compensates power source perturbation in one switching cycle, and the average value of the dynamic reference in one switching cycle. There is no steady state error nor dynamic error between the control reference and the average value of the switched variable. Experiments with buck converter have demonstrated the robustness of the control method and verified theoretical prediction. The control method is very general and applicable to all type PWM

  • The performance and emission for the 4-cylinder 4-cycle gasoline engine fueled with methanol is predicted in this paper. The model for all the processes is illustrated. It computes the gas pressure, gas temperature and the rate of formation of nitric oxide and carbon monoxide at each crank angle using basic energy equation and reaction kinetic mechanism. The results are obtained at different operating conditions encompassing changes in fuel-air equivalence ratio, engine speed, spark timing and compression ratio. The special characteristics of methanol such as high power output and nitric oxide emissions have been truthfully predicted by the model.

  • The nature of entrainment between the locomotor and the respiratory rhythm was investigated while normal human subjects were walked or running on a treadmill. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence and type of coordination between the locomotor and the respiratory rhythm during running at different work load. The experiments were carried out on 12 untrained volunteers exercising at 3 work loads (2 METs, 3 METs, 4 METs in randomized order). The gait cycle was measured by electromyography (EMG) signal of gastrocnemius firing and the respiratory cycle was measured by a thermometer. We found that the ratio between the locomotor and the respiratory rhythm existed and 2:1 ratio between the locomotor-respiratory coupling was dominant at 2 METs and 3 METs.

  • The present work was conducted to achieve the better understanding of the performance analysis technique for the expander type air turbo ramjet engine. For this purpose, the performance analysis was carried out using a small engine(8.0kN thrust) with two types of fuels. From this analysis, at the same input condition, the thrust of methane-fueled engine was 25% lower than that of hydrogen. In addition, the case of methane shows the inapplicable engine performance cycle.(i.e., The compressor work exceeds the turbine output power) These results come mainly from the different heating value of each fuel and specific heat. This analysis also shows that, to build a same performance cycle as the hydrogen case, the methane-fueled engine requires increased air and fuel flow rates, increased turbine expansion ratio, and decreased compressor pressure ratio.

  • The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) and the Kalina cycle system (KCS) are being considered as the most feasible and promising ways to recover the low-grade finite heat sources. This paper presents a comparative exergetical performance analysis for ORC and Kalina cycle using ammonia-water mixture as the working fluid for the recovery of low-grade heat. Effects of the system parameters such as working fluid selection, turbine inlet pressure, and mass fraction of ammonia on the exergetical performance are parametrically investigated. KCS gives lower lower exergy destruction ratio at evaporator and higher second-law efficiency than ORC. The maximum exergy efficiency of ORC is higher than KCS.

  • In this paper, the life cycle cost of the auxiliary power unit in the conventional 8200 series electric locomotive is evaluated and an effective life cycle cost reduction method is sought. For this, a life cycle cost evaluation model was proposed using IEC 60300-3-3 standard. As a result of analysis, material cost which accounted for a large percentage of preventive maintenance cost, accounted for 64% of total cost, and breakdown maintenance cost was as high as 27%. Except for the cost of preventive maintenance, the breakdown maintenance cost ratio was the highest. In order to reduce the LCC of the auxiliary power unit(APU) of the 8200 series in the future, it is necessary to reduce the material cost in case of development and to secure the high reliability according to the parts manufacturing so as to minimize the maintenance cost.

  • Since most of devices in the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN are expected to operate on batteries, they must be designed to consume energy in a very conservative way. Two energy conservation algorithms are proposed for the LR-WPAN: DDC (Dynamic Duty Cycle) and DBT (Dynamic Beacon Tracking). The DDC algorithm adjusts duty cycle dynamically depending on channel conditions. The DBT algorithm switches beacon tracking mode on and off adaptively depending on traffic conditions. Combining the two algorithms reduces energy consumption more efficiently for a wide range of input loads, while maintaining frame delivery ratio and average delay at satisfactory levels.

  • This paper deliberates for a multimedia transmission scheme combining multiple description coding (MDC) and network coding (NC). Our goal is to take advantage from the property of MDC to provide quantized and compressed independent and identically distributed (iid) descriptions and also from the benefit of network coding, which uses network resources efficiently to recover lost data in the network. Recently, p-cycle NC has been introduced to recover and protect any lost or distorted descriptions at the receiver part exactly without need of retransmission. So far, MDC have not been explored using this type of NC. Compressed and coded descriptions are transmitted through the network where p-cycle NC is applied. P-cycle based algorithm is proposed for single and multiple descriptions lost. Results show that in the fixed bit rate, the PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) of our reconstructed image and also subjective evaluation is improved significantly compared to previous work which is averaging method joint with MDC in order to conceal lost descriptions.
