  • This paper proposes an effective smart plug system capable of monitoring power, cutting off standby power and overload current. The key design concept is focused on measurement accuracy, self power consumption and controlling via smart phone application. The system is composed of several plugs and a hub, and adopts a star-topology-styled TDMA wireless protocol for communication between plug and hub. The test result shows that the implemented smart plug system meets K10026 regulation and is worth in electrical safety, energy saving, easy living.

  • A teleoperated manipulator system has been developed for remote handling of the spent fuel bundles. A heavy-duty power manipulator with high reduction ratio joints is used for the slave manipulator in the developed system since the handling tasks of the spent fuel bundles need power. Also, the universal type master manipulator, which has force reflecting capability, is used for precise remote manipulation. The power manipulators so frequently occur the control input saturation that the precise control performances are not achieved due to the windup phenomenon. An advanced bilateral control scheme compensating for the saturation is applied to the teleoperated manipulator system. The validity of the developed system is verified by the grid cutting and fuel transportation tasks from the mockup spent fuel bundle.

  • In Publication No. 66 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, an activity median aerodynamic diameter (AMAD) of 5 ㎛ is considered in internal exposure dose assessment owing to inhalation of radionuclides in a workplace. However, analysis of aerosols generated during dismantling experiments, such as in the oxy-cutting of a reactor vessel conducted in Korea, revealed that the radioactive aerosols have AMAD ranging from 0.024 to 0.064 ㎛. Such extremely fine aerosols can induce internal exposure if inhaled. In particular, alpha radionuclides in aerosols can lead to significantly higher levels of radiation exposure than beta and gamma radionuclides, thus highlighting the need to establish appropriate internal exposure radiation protection programs and monitoring systems that specifically address alpha radionuclides when decommissioning nuclear power plants in Korea.

  • Wear restance titanium carbonitride (TiCN) films were deposited on the SKH9 tool steels and WC-Co cutting tools by plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) using a gaseous mixture of TiCl4, CH4, N2, H2 and Ar. The effects of the deposition temperature and RF(Radio Frequency) power on the deposition rate, chlorine content and crystallinity of the deposited layer were studied. The experimental results showed that the stable and adherent films could be obtained above the deposition temperature of 47$0^{\circ}C$ and maximum deposition rate was obtained at 485$^{\circ}C$. The deposition rate was much affected by RF power and maximum at 40W. The crystallinity of the deposited layer was improved with increasing the deposition temperature and RF power. The TiCN films deposited by PACVD contained much chlorine. The chlorine content in the TiCN films was affected by deposition conditions and decreased with improving the crystallinity of the deposited layer. The deposited TiCN films deposited at the deposition temperature of 52$0^{\circ}C$ and RF power of 40W had an uniform surface with very fine grains of about 500$\AA$ size. The microhardness of the deposited layer was 2,300Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$.

  • Purpose: This study aims to compare the grounding methods of transformers currently used in most industrial sites in Korea to analyze the stability of power quality and the risk of electric shock. Method: The ungrounded method allows for continuous power supply even in the event of a single-phase ground fault, resulting in a lower risk of electric shock. In contrast, the solidly grounded method focuses on quickly cutting off power during incidents such as ground faults or lightning strikes to protect load equipment, as explained through literature comparison. Result and Conclusion: It is concluded that the ungrounded method is preferable in environments where continuous power supply is essential.

  • Removing radioactive concrete is crucial in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. However, this process generates radioactive aerosols, exposing workers to radiation. Although large amounts of radioactive concrete are generated during decommissioning, studies on the internal exposure of workers to radioactive aerosols generated from the cutting of radioactive concrete are very limited. In this study, therefore, we calculate the internal radiation doses of workers exposed to radioactive aerosols during activities such as drilling and cutting of radioactive concrete, using previous research data. The electrical-mobility-equivalent diameter measured in a previous study was converted to aerodynamic diameter using the Newton-Raphson method. Furthermore, the specific activity of each nuclide in radioactive concrete 10 years after nuclear power plants are shut down was calculated using the ORIGEN code. Eventually, we calculated the committed effective dose for each nuclide using the IMBA software. The maximum effective dose of 152Eu constituted 83.09% of the total dose; moreover, the five highest-ranked elements (152Eu, 154Eu, 60Co, 239Pu, 55Fe) constituted 99.63%. Therefore, we postulate that these major elements could be measured first for rapid radiation exposure management of workers involved in decommissioning of nuclear power plants, even if all radioactive elements in concrete are not considered.

  • The application of artificial neural network forcondition monitoring and diagnosis of milling tools was introduced. To detect the conditions of milling tools, the monitoring wywtem consists of three phases: "preparation phase", "learning phase", "production phase". The conditions of milling tools were categorized into the three states. "normal", "warning", "abnormal". The dectection of tool condition, in this paper, could be successfully performed by monitoring the variation of power spectrum on Y dirctional cutting force.

  • Further evaluation and modification were done on the new concepts plow (frontal plow), a plow which inverts the soil furrow without lateral displacement . First, kinematics of soil cutting section was analyzed and an experiment was conducted to report draft and power requirement. Second, function of main moldboards was examined and modification was made. As a result of the modification , force applied to the moldboard was reduced, but the furrow inversion became less stable.
