5-axis laser cutting has great advantages when it is applied to three dimensional machining requiring high cutting quality. For developing 5-axis CNC laser cutting systems, however, many problems such as rotating a laser head or a working table, 5-axis servo-control mechanism, tool path generation and post-processing, and collision avoidance between a laser head and a work-piece should be solved. In this paper, we deal with developing a motion simulator for 5-axis laser cutting machine with a nutating cutting head whose rotational axis is in an inclined plane. Two essential modules such as post-processor and cutting motion simulator was developed based on a commercial 3D CAD of UG-NX. The developed system was applied to three dimensional cutting products and showed the validity of the developed methods.
The primary objective of this study is to develop a prototype of all-in-one attachment-based PHC pile head cutting robot that improves the conventional work in safety, productivity, and quality. For this, the following research works are conducted sequentially; 1)literature review, 2)development of an all-in-one attachment-based PHC pile head cutting robot prototype, 3)performance evaluation of each device, 4)economic analysis of an automated method. As a result, PHC pile cutting level sensing device, PHC pile cutting device, PHC pile handling device are developed. Futhermore, working process of an automated method is developed based on result of performance evaluation. According to the economic analysis result, the cost of the automated method was 21.37% less than that of the conventional method, and the economic efficiency was also superior(ROR 215.44%, Break-even Point 5.52month). It is expected that conclusions for future improvements are used in the development of the all-in-one attachment-based PHC pile head cutting robot to practical use.
This paper presents the vision-based camber and optimal cutting line detection algorithm for hot-rolling process. It is important to measure the camber of head and tail part of strips because many problems are caused by the camber in the hot-rolling process. The hot-rolling process has time constraints. The camber detection algorithm of head and tail parts requires fast and less complex for satisfying time constraints. The proposed algorithm consists of two parts: measurement of the camber in the head and tail part of strips and decision part of the optimal cutting line of hot-rolled strip. First, we obtain the camber value of the strip from the difference between the real center line and the center line of head, tail part. Second, the head and tail part of strips isn't suitable for strips connections. Therefore, the cutting process is needed in the hot-rolling process. The optimal cutting line is determined by the head and tail images obtained from cameras. The algorithm is applied into the vision system with two area cameras, Matrox image processing board and host PC for verification.
For nuclear decommissioning applications, a study was conducted to investigate the feasibility of using a laser for long-distance cutting in complex structures. Cutting tests were performed on stainless steel plates with thicknesses ranging from 10 mm to 30 mm at distances of 300 mm-700 mm from the laser head, using a laser power of 6 kW. Remarkably, the 10 mm and 20 mm thick stainless-steel plates were successfully cut at a distance of 700 mm from the head. Based on the trends observed in the results, it is anticipated that these thicknesses could also be cut at distances of approximately 1 m. Similarly, the 30 mm thick stainless-steel plate was effectively cut at a distance of 500 mm from the head. To evaluate the amount of secondary waste generated, the kerf width was measured. Due to the long-distance cutting, the average kerf width ranged from 6 mm to 16 mm. Despite the wider kerf width, long-distance cutting holds promise for efficiently handling hard-to-reach targets in nuclear decommissioning scenarios.
Recently, the development of high speed and high precision NC-lathe for piston head machining is needed for the complexity and diversity of the piston head shape used in automobile reciprocating engine. THe piston head has many complex shapes in the aspect of fuel economy, such as ovality, profile, double ovality and recess. Among them, for the maching of the over shape of 0.1~1mm the cutting tool should move periodically symchronized with the rotation of piston workpiece. The cutting tool feeed system must have high positioning accuracy for the precise machining, high speed for the fast maching and high dynamic stiffness for the cutting force. The linear brushless DC motor is used for satisfying these coditions. The ballbush guide and supporting guide using turcite is used for the guidance of the feed drive system. Linear encoder, digital servo ampllifer and controller are used for driving the motor. THis paper presents the design and simulation of the new tool feed system for noncircular machining.

Water jet cutting is a new technology using very high pressure water as a cutting tool. Water jet cutting system consists of water preparation part, pressure generation pate, cutting head, and motion part. A PC-based numerical controlled (PC-NC) X-Y table is developed and water get cutting system is installed thereon. Water jet machining is applicable to various kinds of materials ranging from soft materials such as rubber and meat to hard-to-cut materials such as titanium. This paper shows the application of the abrasive waterjet system to titanium cutting.
PHC pile head cutting is an essential work in pile foundation construction. However, since the work has labor-intensive characteristics, there are problems such as productivity and safety. So in previous study PHC pile one-cutting head cutting automation equipment was developed to solve this problem. However, it has been investigated as a limitation that checking the cutting position of the PHC pile can be challenging in place where a rotary laser leveler cannot irradiate cutting position, as the sensing unit of the developed automated equipment utilizes an optical method. Therefore, the objective of this study is to delvelop a GNSS-based methodology for sensing the cutting position of PHC piles to overcome the limitations of the optical method and to examine its feasibility for field application. If the proposed methodology is applied to the construction site, it is expected that the convenience and productivity of the PHC pile cutting position sensing work will be improved.
This study was conducted to find out the effects of rainfall occurring during the paddy sun-during process of traditional paddy harvesting operations on the quality of milld rice. Rice varieties used for the experiment were MINEHIJARI variety a japonica and SUWEON 264 vareity , a sister-line of TONG-IL . Sun-drying days after the paddy cutting, times of storm occurrance during sun-drying period, and storm duration were treated as variables. The results is summarised as follows : 1. Brown rice recovery exposed to rainfall during the sun-druing period were ranged 81.6-82.1% and 79.4-80.2% for MINEHIKARI and SUWEON 264 varieties, respectively. which showed negligible effect by rainfall. 2. Milling recovery of MINEHIKARI variety was not affected by storm duration but by the by the sun-drying days after cutting as the sun-drying days increased to eight and four days when the variety met the rainfall one and two times, respectively. The range of milling recoveries of MINEHIKARI variety were 75.18-74.07% and 75.24-73.46% as the variety met the rainfall one and two times, respectively, and it were estimated that up to 0.9% and 1.5% of milling recovery would be reduced by one and two times of rainfall during sun-drying period. 3. The milling recovery of SUWEON 264 variety was affected only by the increase of drying days after cutting when it met one time of rainfall during the sun-drying period, while it was begun to reduce by the storm duration more than 11hours as the drying paddy met two times of rainfall. The milling reveries of the paddy met one and two times of rainfall were ranged 74.24-73.21% and 74.02-72.36% which were estimated to be reduced up to 0.9 % and 1.8% by the increase of the drying days after cutting and storm duration , respectively. 4. The head rice recovery of MINEHIKARI rice variety showed notable decrease as the drying days after cutting increased, and also it was greatly reduced even by the five hours of storm duration when one time of rainfall occurred but it was not affected by storm duration when the rainfall occurred two times. Head rice recoveries of MINEHIKARI met one and two times of rainfall during the sun-drying period were 65. 15 -40.85% and 61.86 - 30.03 %, which showed terrible reduction as much as up to 25% and 35% compared to that which did not met rainfall during the sun-drying process. 5. Head rice recovery or SUWEON 264 variety was very much reduced as the sum-drying days after cutting increased. Storm duration less than five hours during the sun-drying process did not affect on the decrease of head rice recovery when the variety was exposed to one time of rainfall, while storm duration affected considerably on the reduction of head rice recovery of SUWEON 264 variety exposed to two times of rainfall. The range of head rice recovery, 56.43 - 33.94% and 51.28 - 21.03% , for the paddy exposed to rainfall one and two times were evaluated that up to 24% and 37% of reduction in head rice recovery would be brought about compared to the head rice recovery of the sundriedpaddy that did not met the rainfall.
