Cutting mechanism and characteristics of polystyrene foam (발포 스티로폴의 절삭기구 및 특성)

  • In this paper, the cutting characteristics and cutting mechanism of polystyrene foam was experimentally investigated. It was found that polystyrene foam has different cutting characteristics and cutting mechanism comparing with that of normal metal materials. By using the experimental results, the optimal cutting tool was designed and examined for approving the cuttingability of polystyrene foam.

  • Abrasive waterjet (AWJ) can provide a more effective means for precision of difficult -to-machining materials such as ceramics and titanium alloys. The present study is focused on the surface roughness of abrasive waterjet cut surfaces. This paper investigated theoretical and experimental surface characteristics associated with abrasive waterjet cutting of titanium alloy Gr2. It is shown that the proper variations of several cutting parameters such as waterjet cutting pressure, cutting speed and cutting depth improve the roughness and characteristics on specimen surfaces produced by AWJ cutting. From the experimental results by AWJ cutting of titanium alloy Gr2, the optimal cutting conditions to improve the surface roughness and precision were proposed and discussed.

  • The complex three-dimensional miniature components are needed for a wide range of applications from the aerospace to the biomedical industries. To manufacture these products, micro machining that can make a high aspect ratio part and has good accuracy is widely researched. In this paper, cutting characteristics were analyzed in micro machining using cutting force coefficients, which are the specific cutting force for normal and frictional direction of rake surface. From measured cutting force in micro end milling, cutting condition independent cutting force coefficients were determined and used for analysing the characteristics of micro cutting.   • Abrasive waterjet (AWJ) cutting is an emerging technology for precision cutting of difficult-to-machining materials with the distinct advantages of no thermal effect, high machinability, high flexibility and small cutting forces. This paper investigated theoretical and experimental cutting characteristics associated with abrasive waterjet cutting of quartz GE214. It is shown that the proper variations of several cutting parameters such as waterjet cutting pressure, cutting speed and cutting depth improve the roughness on workpiece surfaces produced by AWJ cutting. From the experimental results by AWJ cutting of quartz GE214, the optimal cutting conditions to improve the surface roughness and precision were proposed and discussed.

  • In the cutting of plate steel, the quality of the cut surfaces is strongly dependent on the cutting conditions such as cutting speed, kerf width, plate thickness, length of tip-specimen and oxygen pressure etc. the cutting tests of plate steel were carried out using CNC gas cutting machine. this paper deals with cutting characteristics of plate steel using CNC cutting machine. the width of cutting entrance and exit, the surface roughness of cutting surfaces and the cutting surface are examined at various cutting conditions.

  • This study proposes the construction of 2-3 dimensional attractor system for cutting characteristics evaluation of metals. Also this paper aims to find the optimal cutting conditions of diamond turning machine by measuring surface form and roughness to perform the cutting experiment of metals, which are aluminum, with diamond tool. As well, according to change cutting conditions such as feed rate, using diamond turning machine to perform cutting processing, by measuring cutting force and surface roughness and according to cutting conditions the aluminum about cutting properties. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in attractor characteristics. Constructed 2-3 dimensional attractor system in this study can be used for cutting characteristics evaluation of metals.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the behavier of SUS 304 during the cutting process and the resulting cutting temperaturce. Since SUS 304 is a difficult-to-machine material, tool damage is largely affected by the suitability of cutting conditions. Therefore, in varying such cutting conditions, the experiment investigates the relations between cutting temperature and tool wear during the cutting process. All the cutting temperature data were manipulated successfully, and the tool temperature distributions were analyzed by a finite element method based on the acquisition data. In the results, the characteristics of cutting temperature are related to the difficulty of machining characteristics.

  • The cutting tests of wood patterns are carried out using CNC milling machine. The cutting forces are monitored to analyse the cutting process. The surface characteristics of machined surface are investigated at various cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed speed, cutting direction of wood pattern and wood material. In the CNC end-milling, the surface roughness increases as feed speed increases and decreases as cutting speed increases. However, the cutting force and surface roughness are different along the cutting direction and material of wood pattern.
