The chestnut is a well-known and important forest product in Korea. The annual production of chestnut is about 100, 000tons and its cultivating area is 80, 000ha. However, the peeling process of outer and inner skins of chestnut is very difficult due to hardness and adhesiveness of chestnut skin. The peeling process of chestnut was operated by manual work and the performance of chestnut peeling machine is very low. The purpose of this study is to develope the prototype of new chestnut peeling system. The hardness of chestnuts was tested with six different drying conditions and its range was from 949$g/mm^2$ to 2, 149$g/mm^2$. The hardness of chestnuts was decresed gradually during the drying process. The chestnut peeling Process includes sorting, storage, drying, outer skin cutting, flame peeling, continuous frictional skin peeling, and inner skin cutting operation. The developed chestnut peeling system consists of outer skin cutter, flame peeler, continuous frictional skin peeler and inner skin cutter. The system can peel domestic chestnuts at 150$kg/hr$ with peeling rate of 78%.
This study describes the selection of optimum machining conditions for a high-hardness resin by using a large 5-axis machine. The experiments were conducted to examine the main factors that affect the surface roughness, such as the spindle speed, axial and radial depths of the cut, and pattern of the cutter path. To analyze the experiment results, the factor with the biggest impact on machining was determined using the smaller-the-better characteristic of the Taguchi method; the effectiveness of the experiment was then confirmed by verifying the selected optimum machining condition.
Punching/blanking/shearing is among the oldest and most frequently used sheet metal forming process. We have developed the shear device for burrless cutting using the micro wire. Since the burr minimization and fine shear plane, this paper is a study on the effect of the shear angle and clearance of the cutter-cutter. And, we confirm the tendency of the shear plane. It is impossible to completely remove the burr in the shearing process. In order to minimize the burr size and fine shear plane, we have accomplished the various experiment conditions such as the shear angle and clearance. Despite the quality of shear plane is not good enough yet, it is possible to make the burr minimization and fine shear plane by the optimization of process parameters.
In this study, an indirect method to estimate the setup runout of a ball-end mill from cutting force signal is proposed. This runout makes cutting forces of each tooth of the milling cutter unequal. By transforming the cutting force model from time domain to frequency domain through time-convolution theorem, the magnitude and phase angle of runout can be explicitly expressed with material constants, cutting conditions, and force signal. The static setup runout can be obtained by extrapolating estimated effective runout, which is independent of feedrate but decreases linearly with increase in axial depth of cut. The setup runout estimated by slot cutting experiments, shows good agreement with the measured one.
Built-up edge affects the surface integrity of the machined surface and tool wear. Tool geometry and cutting conditions are very important factors to remove BUE. In this paper, we optimized the geometry of the metal slitting saw .1nd cutting conditions to remove BUE by the experiment. In general, the metal slitting saw is plain milling cutter with thickness less of a 3/16 inch. This is used for cutting workpiece where high dimensional accuracy and surface finish are necessary. The experiment was planned with Taguchi method that is based on the orthogonal array of design factors(coating, rake angle, number of tooth, cutting speed, feed rate). Response table was made by the value of the surface roughness, the optimized tool geometry and cutting conditions through response table could be determined. In addition. the relative effect of factors were identified by the variance analysis. filially. coating and cutting speed turned out important factors.
In this study, peeling test of the Altari radish on kimchi pre-processing system for mechanization was performed with the longitudinal plane peeling type with wider cutting blade than that of the peeled chip's. To determine the optimum cutter shape to match this plane peeling type, the peeling tests depending on variable cutting speed, rake angle and blade angle using the blade with thickness as 2 m and width as 50mm were performed, and the patterns of the peeled chips and peeling resistances were investigated. As the result of the tests, the rake angle of the blade with clean peeled surface of the Altari radish was over $45^{\circ}$, and the blade angle and rake angle with the minimum peeling resistance was $20^{\circ}\;and\;60^{\circ}$, respectively. The optimum peeling conditions were; the peeling speed 0.2m/s, blade angle $20^{\circ}$ and the rake angle $60^{\circ}$, and the peeling resistance of each blade was 15 N.
This study describes the geometric characteristics and the 5-axis machining method in order to make end mill cutter coming with insert tips. End mill geometry is consisted of flute part and insert tip part. Flute part modeled by using ruled surfaces with constant helix angle, and insert tip part modeled by rectangular planes containing tapped hole of specified direction in its center. In this study, the modeled insert tip part considered both of a radial rake angle and a axial rake angle, because they were important cutting conditions. In order to machining the virtual end mill defined from geometric characteristics, we programmed a special software to machining the end mill considered in this study. This software can generate NC-codes about following processes, end milling or ball end milling of flute part end milling of rectangular plane, centering of hole, drilling of hole, and tapping of hole. Ant sampled end mills were modeled and machined on 5-axis CNC machining center with two index tables. Since machined end mills were very agreeable to designed end mills, we saw that the method proposed in this study can be very useful for manufacturing of end mill body with insert tip.
This study presents the selection of cutting conditions in high speed pipe cutting machine for the better quality. A high speed pipe cutting machine which uses a rotary knife can make good quality products in short time. But, the machine is much sensitive by cutting conditions because of the complicated mechanism. In this reason, many experiments for cutting condition selection are necessary to improve quality of production. This study carried out cutting experiments with the three factors that are cutting RPM, cutting force and pooling force. 2-dimensional profile measuring instrument is used to measure which is represented by ${\Delta}h$, a sum of burr and collapse height. The effects of factors are analyzed by using MINITAB, the commercial software.
