Reduction gear with internal gear pair need functions such as compact size, high reduction ratios, high transmission efficiency, and low noise. Feasible design region of the internal gear pair with a small tooth difference is extremely limited because the internal gear pair is subject to interference in meshing and cutting. Single-objective optimal design can not simulataneously satisfy the manifold requirements of the internal gear pair and can not determine the economical specification of a pinion cutter. Multi-objective optimal design which include the specification of the pinion cutter in design variables is developed, considering the manufacturing error of an internalgear pair and the re-sharpening of the pinion cutter.

This study aims to develop hair cutter with zirconia($ZrO_2$) material whose machinability, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and bio-compatibility are excellent by comparing iron hair cutter. Ultra-thin zirconia cutter with the thickness of 0.253mm is manufactured through the optimization of design, molding, sintering, grinding and grinding process. With observation result of cutter specimen by use of scanning electron microscope(SEM), formability and process of cutting face are shown to be good. It is also evaluated with sufficient merchantability by cutting test results. The cutter process technology of thin zirconia can be utilized at the development of high value-added beauty appliances like razor, beauty-razor and eye brows-razor for woman by use of study result.

This study was conducted to estimate the number of disc cutter consumption and to predict amount of disc cutters when a shield TBM(Tunnel Boring Machine) of the Han Riverbed Tunnel was applied. In fact, it is almost impossible to change the machine after starting the excavation using the shield TBM method. Therefore, it is important to design an appropriate equipment in the shield method - an efficiency choice of the operation equipment plays a key role in the shield tunnel processing. For the above reason, the disc cutter consumption prediction is quite important so that the detailed analysis is required. A number of disc cutter consumption was predicted by the three methods, viz. KOMATSU, MITSUBISHI and NTNU. In addition, the predicted results were compared with field data. The prediction of disc cutter consumption showed that 237 for KOMATSU, 501 for MITSUBISHI, and 634 for NTNU, respectively. However, a total number of 1,263 disc cutter consumption were investigated during the tunnel construction. It was found that there was a huge difference between the predicted and real values of the disc cutter consumption. The more detailed investigation showed that the disc cutter was worn out bluntly in the northbound tunnel, meanwhile it was worn out sharply in the southbound tunnel. In particular, the disc cutter consumption in the southbound tunnel was increased rapidly because of rear abrasion for remaining mucks in the chamber.
We designed the cutter profile for symmetric screw rotor and did vibration experiment of screw rotor manufactured by the designed cutter profile. The results of this study are summarized as follows. (1) We designed the cutter profile of screw rotor (4-6)(5-6) by using numerical analysis program. (2) The maximum amplitude and variation of amplitude of 5-6 profile rotor are about 30 - 36.7% and 10 - 25% smaller than those of 4-6 profile rotor, respectively. (3) As the angular velocity of rotor changes from 100 to 300 rpm, the vibration of X, Y axis in driving shaft of 5-6 profile rotor is about 10 - 20% smaller than that of 4-6 profile rotor.
The inverse offset method (IOM) is widely used for generating cutter paths from the point-based surface where the surface is characterised by a set of surface points rather than parametric polynomial surface equations. In the IOM, cutter path planning is carried out by specifying the grid sizes, called the step-forward and step-interval distances respectively in the forward and transverse cutting directions. The step-forward distance causes the chordal deviation and the step-forward distance produces the cusp. The chordal deviation and cusp are also functions of local surface slopes and curvatures. As the slopes and curvatures vary over the surface, different step-forward and step-interval distances are appropriate in different areas for obtaining the machined surface accurately and efficiently. In this paper, the chordal deviation and cusp height are calculated in consideration with the surface slopes and curvatures, and their combined effect is used to estimate the machined surface error. An adaptive grid generation algorithm is proposed, which enables the IOM to generate cutter paths adaptively using different step-forward and step-interval distances in different regions rather than constant step-forward and step-interval distances for entire surface.

The vibration of rotor systems is caused by various factors, such as misalignment, unbalance, gear meshing, error of assembly, etc. Modal test and TDA/ODS analysis were done. The dynamic analysis of the armature was done with SAMCEF which is a commercial software for finite element and kinematic analysis. The transient response of the armature is calculated by the SAMCEF with the consideration of magnetic force and bearing stiffness, which are the essential elements for the design of high speed cutter. Main frequency of the vibration is due to the unbalance of the armature. The FEM analysis model considering unbalance and the high speed cutter have same vibration properties. The vibration sources of the high speed cutter is proved to be unbalance.
LCM test is one of the most powerful and reliable methods of experiment for the cutter head design and the performance prediction of TBM. In many cases, however, the predicted design model can be directly applied to the field design, because this test may have an uppermost limit in preparation and/or transportation of the large size rock samples and the test for the jointed rock mass is not easy. When the proper and reasonable numerical modeling is considered to overcome this limit, the most adequate cutter head design for TBM could be presented without any complicate preconsideration in the field. In this study, the crack propagation patterns dependent on the contact point of disc cutter and the angle of rock joint are analyzed for the rock specimen with a single joint using the UDEC. The authors could derive the appropriate contact points of disc cutters and their space with respect to the joint angle in rock mass thru the numerical analysis.

This paper describes the development of machining simulation program which is able to design cutter profile and 3-dimensional geometry for rotors in screw compressor. Based on the symmetric rotor profiles developed previously, cutters are designed and 3-dimensional geometries of rotors are generated by using simulation program. Symmetric rotors are manufactured by a universal milling machine, and surface geometries of them are measured by a 3-dimension scanner It is shown that simulation program developed is useful to design cutter for rotor manufacturing and to generate the 3-dimensional helicoid geometry of rotor in screw compressor.
This paper outlines the Taguchi optimization methodology, which is applied to optimize cutting parameters in end milling when machining STS304 with TiAlN coated SKH59 tool under up and down end milling conditions. The end milling parameters evaluated are depth of cut, spindle speed and feed rate. An orthogonal array, signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and analysis of variance (ANOVA) are employed to analyze the effect of these end milling parameters. The Taguchi design is an efficient and effective experimental method in which a response variable can be optimized, given various control and noise factors, using fewer resources than a factorial design. An orthogonal array of $L_9(33)$ was used. The most important input parameter for cutting force, however, is the feed rate, and depending on the cutter rotation direction. Finally, confirmation tests verified that the Taguchi design was successful in optimizing end milling parameters for cutting force.
This study is a research about cutter bits arrangement of shield-TBM and carried out a scale model test and numerical analysis according to a space of cutter bits. A cutter head pressures and an advance time are measured to be followed by the space of cutter bits with an advance speed through the scale model test. We conducted the numerical analysis to verify the result of the scale model test, and to compare with the scale model test. There are three cases of space : unification 1.0D and 1.5D. In case TBM is excavated and space is 1.0D, the advance speed is much faster than the other cases, and pressure of face of ground deformation and cutter head is maintained stably. If additional researches about bits arrangement of cutter head of sand ground based on the result of this research are performed, substantial results may be obtained.
