  • This study intends to provide fundamental data to develop creative high-value designs, proving that the cut-out technique, a decorative element of fashion design, can be used to express various visual effects. The author performed a literature review of such publications as Gap Press, Fashion News, and Mode & Mode from 2001S/S to 2010S/S, referring to Internet data to empirically analyze the cut-out technique in contemporary fashion. The study found that the cut-out design is effective overall, but is best suited for one-piece designs and for partial rather than whole items of clothing. The basic motif of the cut-out is a geometrical pattern based on a line, a tear, or is shapeless. The cut-out design is mostly shown as an overall pattern or as a symmetrical shape. Analysis shows that the characteristics of the contemporary fashion utilizing the cut-out technique are as follow: First, the cut-out technique exposes the curves of a woman's body in a direct or indirect way, thereby emphasizing her sexuality and maximizing the value of female beauty. Second, through the cut-out technique, we can highlight the various types of space formed by the technique and repeated patterns; we may also elaborate on single-patterned laser-cut designs, which will show that the particular surface effect of the material can strongly impact the attractiveness of the design through emphasis and decoration. Third, damaging or destroying clothes on purpose, showing surprising concepts through optical illusions, and expressing humor by ignoring existing clothing styles show our willingness to escape from traditional or obvious design ideas, as well as demonstrating individuality and playfulness.

  • In this editorial, buckling analytical investigation of the nanocomposite plate with square cut out reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) surrounded by Pasternak foundation is considered. The plate is presumed has square cut out in center and resting on Pasternak foundation. CNTs are used as amplifier in plate for diverse distribution, such as uniform distribution (UD) and three patterns of functionally graded (FG) distribution types of CNTs (FG-X, FG-A and FG-O). Moreover, the effective mechanical properties of nanocomposite plate are calculated from the rule of mixture. Domain decomposition method and orthogonal polynomials are applied in order to define the shape function of nanocomposite plate with square cut out. Finally, Rayleigh-Ritz energy method is used to obtain critical buckling load of system. A detailed parametric study is conducted to explicit the effects of the dimensions of plate, length of square cut out, different distribution of CNTs, elastic medium and volume fraction of CNTs. It is found from results that increase the dimensions of plate and length of square cut out have negative impact on buckling behavior of system but considering CNTs in plate has positive influence.

  • In the present research post-buckling of a cut out plate reinforced through carbon nanotubes (CNTs) resting on an elastic foundation is studied. Material characteristics of CNTs are hypothesized to be altered within thickness orientation which are calculated according to Mori-Tanaka model. For modeling the system mathematically, first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is applied and using energy procedure, the governing equations can be derived. With respect to Rayleigh-Ritz procedure as well as Newton-Raphson iterative scheme, the motion equations are solved and therefore, post-buckling behavior of structure will be tracked. Diverse parameters as well as their reactions on post-buckling paths focusing cut out measurement, CNT's volume fraction and agglomeration, dimension of plate and an elastic foundation are investigated. It is revealed that presence of a square cut out can affect negatively post-buckling behavior of structure. Moreover, adding nanocompsits in the matrix leads to enhancement of post-buckling response of system.

  • The aim of the present paper deals with free vibration analysis of laminated composite skew plates with single and multiple cut-outs. For complete understanding of the dynamic behavior of laminated skew plates with cut-out a numerical analysis has been carried out by developing a computer code in FOTRAN. Special attention is drawn on the formulation of mass matrix by considering effect of rotary inertia. The results obtained by the finite element formulation using nine noded isoparametric plate bending element are validated by comparing the results from relevant published literature. Few new results on laminated skew plates with cut-out have been presented.

  • As the increase of the fuel oil price, the demand for saving of the ship running cost is growing. To meet the needs of the shipowners, the method for low load operation has been developed by engine licenser. As one of low load operation, the turbocharger cut-out system can be utilized flexibly both full and part load operation. It can be possible to optimize fuel consumption at both full and part load operation. Tests by engine licenser with 12K98MC engine have proven that the fuel oil consumption can be reduced approximately 5%. In this paper we will study the application of main engine turbocharger cut-out system onboard a vessel. One of four turbochargers with MAN Diesel & Turbo 12K98MC-C and 12K98ME-C engine is cut out with swing gate valve. The fuel oil consumption is measured during sea trial and engine shop test.

  • In this study, for 6-20 MeV electron beam energy occurring in a linear accelerator, the authors attempted to investigate the relation between the effective source-skin distance and the relation between the radiation field and the effective source-skin distance. The equipment used included a 6-20 MeV electron beam from a linear accelerator, and the distance was measured by a ionization chamber targeting the solid phantom. The measurement method for the effective source-skin distance according to the size of the radiation field changes the source-skin distance (100, 105, 110, 115 cm) for the electron beam energy (6, 9, 12, 16, 20 MeV). The effective source-skin distance was measured using the method proposed by Faiz Khan, measuring the dose according to each radiation field ($6{\times}6$, $10{\times}10$, $15{\times}150$, $20{\times}20cm^2$) at the maximum dose depth (1.3, 2.05, 2.7, 2.45, 1.8 cm, respectively) of each energy. In addition, the effective source-skin distance when cut-out blocks ($6{\times}6$, $10{\times}10$, $15{\times}15cm^2$) were used and the effective source-skin distance when they were not used, was measured and compared. The research results showed that the effective source-skin distance was increased according to the increase of the radiation field at the same amount of energy. In addition, the minimum distance was 60.4 cm when the 6 MeV electron beams were used with $6{\times}6$ cut-out blocks and the maximum distance was 87.2 cm when the 6 MeV electron beams were used with $20{\times}20$ cut-out blocks; thus, the largest difference between both of these was 26.8 cm. When comparing the before and after the using the $6{\times}6$ cut-out block, the difference between both was 8.2 cm in 6 MeV electron beam energy and was 2.1 cm in 20 MeV. Thus, the results showed that the difference was reduced according to an increase in the energy. In addition, in the comparative experiments performed by changing the size of the cut-out block at 6 MeV, the results showed that the source-skin distance was 8.2 cm when the size of the cut-out block was $6{\times}6$, 2.5 cm when the size of the cut-out block was $10{\times}10$, and 21.4 cm when the size of the cut-out block $15{\times}15$. In conclusion, it is recommended that the actual measurement is used for each energy and radiation field in the clinical dose measurement and for the measurement of the effective source-skin distance using cut-out blocks.

  • In this paper, a theoretical approach was studied to make a baseline box type model satisfying the stiffness condition of a cut-out model. First, we compared the sum of the sectional theoretical deflections and the FEM result of the cut-out model under the static load test conditions, and we obtained good correlations from both the results. Second, To obtain the thickness of the baseline model, we used the mean value of geometric moment of intertia of the side wall and roof structure. Also, we compared the theoretical results and the FEM result of a baseline model, and we obtained good correlations. It is considered that the developed theoretical approach can be used for the weight reduction of train carbodies.
