In this paper, the effect of wrinkling on the cut propagation direction of thin membrane was studied using geometrically nonlinear shell element post-buckling analysis. In the analysis, rectangular tensile membrane configuration with a slanted center cut was considered. The cut propagation direction was predicted by maximum energy release rate method, $K_{II}$-zero method, and maximum tangential stress method. The cut propagation angle and the $J$-integral values were calculated for the wrinkled and unwrinkled cases and the results were compared. Various initial cut orientation angles were considered and the effect on the propagation direction was studied. The cut propagation paths were also predicted by virtual cut extension approach.

A simple, accurate and efficient mesh generation technique, the cut-cell method, is able to represent an arbitrarily complex geometry. Both structured and unstructured grid meshes are used in this method. First, the numerical domain is constructed with regular Cartesian grids as a background grid and then the solid boundaries or bodies are cut out of the background Cartesian grids. As a result, some boundary cells can be contained two numerical conditions such as the flow and solid conditions, where the special treatment is needed to simulate such physical characteristics. The HLLC approximate Riemann solver, a Godunov-type finite volume method, is employed to discretize the advection terms in the governing equations. Also, the TVD-WAF method is applied on the Cartesian cut-cell grids to stabilize numerical results. Present method is validated for the rectangular dam break problems. Initially, a conventional grid is constructed with the Cartesian regular mesh only and then applied to the dam-break flow simulation. As a comparative simulation, a cut-cell grids are applied to represent the flow domain rotated with arbitrary angles. Numerical results from this study are compared with the results from the case of the Cartesian regular mesh only. A good agreement is achieved with other numerical results presented in the literature.

In this paper, a simple optical method that uses an infrared(IR) cut filter is proposed to minimize variation of eye image by external infrared(IR) sources in a video based head mounted eye tracking system that is used in the field of sports. For this, the IR cut filter is attached to a head mount of the eye tracking system, and the camera with an IR LED is located between the IR cut filter and eye. In this structure, external IR is blocked by the IR cut filter, and the IR intensity on the eye can be controlled by the IR LED. Therefore, the illumination condition of the camera to capture the eye can be stable without being affected by external IR illuminations. To verify the proposed idea, variation of the eye image and intensity of the IR with/without the IR cut filter is measured under various illumination conditions. The measured data show that the IR cut filter method can block external IR effectively, and complex pupil detection algorithms can be replaced by a simple binarized method.
In this editorial, buckling analytical investigation of the nanocomposite plate with square cut out reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) surrounded by Pasternak foundation is considered. The plate is presumed has square cut out in center and resting on Pasternak foundation. CNTs are used as amplifier in plate for diverse distribution, such as uniform distribution (UD) and three patterns of functionally graded (FG) distribution types of CNTs (FG-X, FG-A and FG-O). Moreover, the effective mechanical properties of nanocomposite plate are calculated from the rule of mixture. Domain decomposition method and orthogonal polynomials are applied in order to define the shape function of nanocomposite plate with square cut out. Finally, Rayleigh-Ritz energy method is used to obtain critical buckling load of system. A detailed parametric study is conducted to explicit the effects of the dimensions of plate, length of square cut out, different distribution of CNTs, elastic medium and volume fraction of CNTs. It is found from results that increase the dimensions of plate and length of square cut out have negative impact on buckling behavior of system but considering CNTs in plate has positive influence.

When a large number of hazardous road cut-slopes are spreaded in widely scattered areas, the effective investigation and evaluation method that is able to decide the risk of hazardous road cut-slopes, is required. Many different evaluation techniques were suggested by many different researchers based on their demands, but there are the limited researches on the experimental evaluation technique which can be utilized by personnel who does not have much experiences on the road cut-slopes. In this study, the appropriate and effective evaluation method of the dangerous slope is suggested and this method can be used by both inexperienced and experienced persons. Therefore, this is the one of the effective ways that can mitigate the possibility of landslides.

In this paper, we propose a practical cut generation method based on the Chvatal-Gomory procedure for the (0, 1)-Knapsack problem with a variable capacity. For a given set N of n items each of which has a positive integral weight and a facility of positive integral capacity, a feasible solution of the problem is defined as a subset S of N along with the number of facilities that can satisfy the sum of weights of all the items in S. We first derive a class of valid inequalities for the problem using Chvatal-Gomory procedure, then analyze the associated separation problem. Based on the results, we develop an affective cut generation method. We then analyze the theoretical strength of the inequalities which can be generated by the proposed cut generation method. Preliminary computational results are also presented which show the effectiveness of the proposed cut generation method.
Rails have residual stresses produced during manufacturing processes. The residual stresses play all important role on brittle fracture, fatigue strength and derailment by producing cracks in the web of rail. The web saw-cut test is a technique developed to measure the bulk longitudinal residual stress level. It is a simple mettled to estimate a stress intensity factor, $_{4}$ for a web crack by using the radii of curvature of the upper and lower portions of a cut rail. But according to this method, $_{4}$ varies along the rail length because the curvatures along tile rail length vary In this paper, tile residual stress was estimated by Finite Element Method and tile web saw-cut method. In addition tile variation of the residual stress with time was investigated.
Existing grade crossings between railway and roadway area gradually changed to grade separation systems by the law. In the case of new roadway construction which crosses railways, it shall be grade separation system in principle. With the railway underground crossing method, many practices have been developed which can minimize rail displacements and avoid rail release. With these methods, the effects to the train can be reduced. The underground crossing methods can be identified as open-cut methods and non open-cut methods. The open-cut methods include temporary support methods and special rail construction methods. Also the non open-cut methods includes pipe roof methods, front jacking methods, messer shield methods, NTR methods and JES methods. Among these, the most suitable method is applied considering safety, economy, class of each rail system (train passing frequency and velocity), etc. In the non open-cut methods, the cost and duration shall be increased to keep existing rail system during construction. In the open-cut methods which use plate girders, the rail speed shall be restricted due to the displacement and vibration of the girder. In this study new grade separation methods were developed. With this method, the safety during construction can be increased. This method refines temporary support methods, but pc slab girder with huge stiffness is applied instead of plate girders. With this method, the rail displacement can be reduced and higher safety can be obtained during construction. Also construction cost and duration can be minimized because the temporary work and the overburden soil depth can be reduced.

From the result of precise field investigation and stability analysis for the cut slope, following results were acquired. 1. The cause of the collapse of cut slope came from circle sliding collapse by fault zone which remained inner weathering zone. 2. The existing destructed soil and rock can be removed by reinforcement. And to prevent the additional destruction, it is judged that applying the method after relaxing the slope would be reasonable. 3. To make cut slope stable, soft rock layer should be done cutting 1:1.5 and 1:2.0 ~ 1:2.5 for weathered rock and soil layer. 4. Heavy water leakage section should be applied horizontal drain method so that water pressure should not act to the cut slope.

Video scene segmentation is fundamental role for content based video analysis and many kinds of scene segmentation schemes have been proposed in previous researches. However, there is a problem, which is to find optimal threshold value according to various kinds of movies and its content because only fixed single threshold value usually used for cut detection. In this paper, we proposed the variable dynamic threshold method, which change the threshold value by a probability distribution of cut detection interval and information of frame feature differences and cut detection interval in previous cut detection is used to determine the next cut detection. For this, we present a cut detection algorithm and a parameter generation method to change the threshold value in runtime. We also show the proposed method, which can minimize fault alarm rate than the existing methods efficiently by experimental results.
