Sentiment analysis incorporates natural language processing and artificial intelligence and has evolved as an important research area. Sentiment analysis on product reviews has been used in widespread applications to improve customer retention and business processes. In this paper, we propose a method for performing an intensified sentiment analysis on customer product reviews. The method involves the extraction of two feature sets from each of the given customer product reviews, a set of acoustic features (representing emotions) and a set of lexical features (representing sentiments). These sets are then combined and used in a supervised classifier to predict the sentiments of customers. We use an audio speech dataset prepared from Amazon product reviews and downloaded from the YouTube portal for the purposes of our experimental evaluations.
Many sentiment categorization systems based on machine learning methods use morphological analyzers in order to extract linguistic features from sentences. However, the morphological analyzers do not generally perform well in a customer review domain because online customer reviews include many spacing errors and spelling errors. These low performances of the underlying systems lead to performance decreases of the sentiment categorization systems. To resolve this problem, we propose a feature extraction method based on simple longest matching of Eojeol (a Korean spacing unit) and phoneme patterns. The two kinds of patterns are automatically constructed from a large amount of POS (part-of-speech) tagged corpus. Eojeol patterns consist of Eojeols including content words such as nouns and verbs. Phoneme patterns consist of leading consonant and vowel pairs of predicate words such as verbs and adjectives because spelling errors seldom occur in leading consonants and vowels. To evaluate the proposed method, we implemented a sentiment categorization system using a SVM (Support Vector Machine) as a machine learner. In the experiment with Korean customer reviews, the sentiment categorization system using the proposed method outperformed that using a morphological analyzer as a feature extractor.
This study investigates customer satisfaction with full service carriers (FSC) and low cost carriers (LCC) using social media sentiment evaluation. From 2008 to 2016, a total of 77,591 tweets about two FSC and six LCC were aggregated and classified as per airline choice factors. Sentiment evaluation was employed to assess customer satisfaction by three appraisers. The results showed that customer satisfaction with LCC was significantly higher (p<0.001) compared to FSC. Furthermore, overall customer satisfaction with both FSC and LCC has been facing a consistent downward trend since the last seven years. The results also highlighted low customer satisfaction with respect to booking and flight operation factors, and a steep decline in customer satisfaction across booking, onboard services, and marketing factors for FSC. The results of this study have practical implications for the airline industry, which can use this quantitative data to improve customer satisfaction with FSC and LCC.
Purpose There is much information in customer reviews, but finding key information in many texts is not easy. Business decision makers need a model to solve this problem. In this study we propose a multi-topic sentiment analysis approach using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) for user-generated contents (UGC). Design/methodology/approach In this paper, we collected a total of 104,039 hotel reviews in seven of the world's top tourist destinations from TripAdvisor (www.tripadvisor.com) and extracted 30 topics related to the hotel from all customer reviews using the LDA model. Six major dimensions (value, cleanliness, rooms, service, location, and sleep quality) were selected from the 30 extracted topics. To analyze data, we employed R language. Findings This study contributes to propose a lexicon-based sentiment analysis approach for the keywords-embedded sentences related to the six dimensions within a review. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated by comparing the sentiment analysis results of each topic with the real attribute ratings provided by the platform. The results show its outperformance, with a high ratio of accuracy and recall. Through our proposed model, it is expected to analyze the customers' sentiments over different topics for those reviews with an absence of the detailed attribute ratings.
Purpose: The primary purpose of this study is to integrate text mining and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to automatically extract valuable information from customer reviews, thereby establishing a QFD frame- work to confirm genuine customer needs for New Product Development (NPD). Methods: Our approach combines text mining and QFD through topic modeling and sentiment analysis on a large data set of 56,873 customer reviews from Zappos.com, spanning five running shoe brands. This process objectively identifies customer requirements, establishes priorities, and assesses competitive strengths. Results: Through the analysis of customer reviews, the study successfully extracts customer requirements and translates customer experience insights and emotions into quantifiable indicators of competitiveness. Conclusion: The findings obtained from this research offer essential design guidance for new product develop- ment endeavors. Importantly, the significance of these results extends beyond the running shoe industry, presenting broad and promising applications across diverse sectors.
Purpose Social media such as social network services, online forums, and customer reviews have produced a plethora amount of information online. Yet, the information deluge has created both opportunities and challenges at the same time. This research particularly focuses on the challenges in order to discover and track the service defects over time derived by mining publicly available online customer reviews. Design/methodology/approach Synthesizing the streams of research from text analytics, we apply two stages of methods of sentiment analysis and structural topic model incorporating meta-information buried in review texts into the topics. Findings As a result, our study reveals that the research framework effectively leverages textual information to detect, prioritize, and categorize service defects by considering the moving trend over time. Our approach also highlights several implications theoretically and practically of how methods in computational linguistics can offer enriched insights by leveraging the online medium.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the tokenizer in natural language processing for customer satisfaction in sentiment analysis. Methods: In this study, a supervised learning-based tokenizer Mecab-Ko and an unsupervised learning-based tokenizer SentencePiece were used for comparison. Three algorithms: Naïve Bayes, k-Nearest Neighbor, and Decision Tree were selected to compare the performance of each tokenizer. For performance comparison, three metrics: accuracy, precision, and recall were used in the study. Results: The results of this study are as follows; Through performance evaluation and verification, it was confirmed that SentencePiece shows better classification performance than Mecab-Ko. In order to confirm the robustness of the derived results, independent t-tests were conducted on the evaluation results for the two types of the tokenizer. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the classification performance of the SentencePiece tokenizer was high in the k-Nearest Neighbor and Decision Tree algorithms. In addition, the Decision Tree showed slightly higher accuracy among the three classification algorithms. Conclusion: The SentencePiece tokenizer can be used to classify and interpret customer sentiment based on online reviews in Korean more accurately. In addition, it seems that it is possible to give a specific meaning to a short word or a jargon, which is often used by users when evaluating products but is not defined in advance.
Purpose - In recent, Japanese retailers have expanded their business into Korea, although Korean customers have anti-Japan sentiment in their mind, It is, thus, necessary to investigate how Korean customers react to Japanese retailers, when selecting a shopping place. Research design, data, and methodology - The authors have developed a research model with five hypotheses, based on the literature review process, and used confirmative factor analysis(CFA) as well as a structural equation model(SEM) as a research technique, in order to verify hypotheses. Results - All of hypotheses are accepted. Anti-Japan sentiment significantly influences consumer ethnocentrism and animosity. Interestingly, consumer ethnocentricity affects the formation process of animosity. Rather than ethnocentrism, animosity relatively influences customer attitudes towards Japanese retailers, when Korean customers choose a retailer. Conclusions - The authors found that anti-Japan sentiment has significantly affected Korean customer attitudes. In order for Japanese retailers to increase their market shares in the Korean market, they have to make a significant effort to alleviate the degree of anti-Japan sentiment, together with Japanese government. In contrast with research findings, Japanese retailers have done their business very well in Korea. Considering that Japanese retailers target younger customers in Korea, demographic elements should be involved in the future research.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the factors affecting customer satisfaction in the customer reviews of omni-channel, posted on Internet blogs, cafes, and YouTube using text mining analysis. Research, data, and Methodology: In this study, frequency analysis is performed and the LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) is used to analyze social big data to respond to reviewers' reaction to the recently opened omni-channel shopping reviews by L Shopping Company. Additionally, based on the topic analysis, we conduct a sentiment analysis on purchase reviews and analyze the characteristics of each topic on the positive or negative sentiments of omni-channel app users. Results: As a result of a topic analysis, four main topics are derived: delivery and events, economic value, recommendations and convenience, and product quality and brand awareness. The emotional analysis reveals that the reviewers have many positive evaluations for price policy and product promotion, but negative evaluations for app use, delivery, and product quality. Conclusions: Retailers can establish customized marketing strategies by identifying the customer's major interests through text mining analysis. Additionally, the analysis of sentiment by subject becomes an important indicator for developing products and services that customers want by identifying areas that satisfy customers and areas that evoke negative reactions.

With the rapid development of e-commerce, many customers can now express their opinion on various kinds of product at discussion groups, merchant sites, social networks, etc. Discerning a consensus opinion about a product sold online is difficult due to more and more reviews become available on the internet. Opinion Mining, also known as Sentiment analysis, is the task of automatically detecting and understanding the sentimental expressions about a product from customer textual reviews. Recently, researchers have proposed various approaches for evaluation in sentiment mining by applying several techniques for document, sentence and aspect level. Aspect-based sentiment analysis is getting widely interesting of researchers; however, more complex algorithms are needed to address this issue precisely with larger corpora. This paper introduces an approach of knowledge representation for the task of analyzing product aspect rating. We focus on how to form the nature of sentiment representation from textual opinion by utilizing the representation learning methods which include word embedding and compositional vector models. Our experiment is performed on a dataset of reviews from electronic domain and the obtained result show that the proposed system achieved outstanding methods in previous studies.
