폐잔재의 펄프화를 통한 환경친화적 완충소재의 개발 (Development of Environment-friendly Cushioning Materials by Pulping of Waste Residual Woods)

  • Environment-friendly shock-absorbing (cushioning) materials were made using a vacuum forming method from waste wood collected from local mountains in Korea. The waste wood was pulped by thermomechanical pulping. The TMP cushions showed superior shock-absorbing properties with lower elastic moduli compared to EPS(Expanded Polystyrene) and pulp mold. Even though the TMP cushions made using at different suction times had many free voids in their inner fiber structures, their apparent densities were a little higher than EPS and much lower than pulp mold. The addition of cationic starch improved elastic modulus of the TMP cushions without increasing the apparent density, which was different from surface sizing with starch. The porosity of the TMP cushions was a little greater than EPS and much less than pulp mold. Finally, the TMP cushions have great potential to endure external impacts occurring during goods distribution.

  • Electronic products can be subjected to many different forms of shock. These shocks are usually experienced during transporting the electronic products from a manufacturer to customers. Drop tests are performed to test the product fragility before shipment. Package cushioning materials are often used to protect electronic products from severs shock environments. In the present paper, an algorithm to predict the shock responses of the main mechanical parts is developed by use of the shock analysis in which the modal parameters extracted from vibration test are used. These results are in good agreement with the results of drop test. By use of the shock response prediction algorithm developed herein, it is possible to predict the results of drop test at various drop directions and also to select the optimal package cushioning materials.

공동주택 경량 바닥충격음 저감성능 예측을 위한 바닥마감재 간이측정 방법 연구 (Research on simple measurement method of floor finishing materials to predict lightweight floor impact noise reduction performance in apartment houses)

  • 현재까지 바닥충격음은 중량 바닥충격음 연구가 주를 이루었다. 경량 바닥충격음의 경우 뜬 바닥구조만으로 충분히 차단성능을 확보할 수 있었기 때문이었다. 뜬 바닥구조에서 중량 바닥충격음의 경우 바닥완충재의 동탄성 측정을 통해 저감성능을 어느 정도 예측할 수 있다. 하지만 최근 사후 확인 제도의 도입으로 인해 다양한 바닥구조가 개발되고 있다. 특히, 완충재가 사용되지 않는 바닥구조에서는 경량 바닥충격음에 지대한 영향을 미치는 것이 바닥마감재이다. 하지만 바닥마감재에 대한 탄성이나 물성을 측정하여 경량바닥충격음을 효과적으로 저감 하기 위한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 사후 확인 제도 도입 이후 중요해 질 수 있는 바닥마감재의 경량바닥충격음 저감성능 예측하고자 하였다. 공동주택 바닥마감재로 사용되는 다양한 재료를 선정하여 실제 실험실에서 경량바닥충격음 차음성능을 측정하고 간이 실험으로 진동 전달특성 파악을 통해 경량바닥충격음 예측 가능성을 확인하고자 하였다.

Feasibility Study on Styrofoam Layer Cushioning for Banana Bulk Transport in a Local Distribution System

  • Purpose: This study evaluates a new banana bulk packaging method under the real transport conditions of Sri Lanka. Methods: A field evaluation of optimized 8-mm thick Styrofoam sheets used as the cushioning material was applied. A trial transport was conducted from Thambuttegama to Colombo using a medium-sized open truck, with banana leaves as the control material. Data were recorded at the farmer, transporter, retailer, and consumer stages of the supply chain. Mechanical damage, physiological loss in weight, fruit firmness, total soluble solids, ripeness index, visual quality ratings, and the physical damage index of the bananas were measured at each stage. A cost-benefit analysis was also conducted for both packaging methods. Results: The 8-mm styrofoam sheets significantly reduced (p < 0.05) the mechanical damage from 26.3% to 12.9% compared to the conventional method for long-distance transport, and the physiological loss in weight showed a decrease of 2.88%. The loss of firmness of the fruits followed a simmilar pattern for both methods until reaching the retailer, but at the consumer was significantly higher (p < 0.05) for the control. However, the physical damage index at the retail stage for the control showed symptoms of physical injury, whereas the bananas transported using the cushioning materials exhibited only minor symptoms. Further, the visual quality of the fruits after transport from the farmer to the consumer was preserved, which is one of the main factors affecting consumer preference and retail price. The proposed method increases the profit margin by 51.2% for Embul bananas owing to the reduced postharvest losses. Conclusion: The 8-mm thick Styrofoam sheets reduced the physical damage to the bananas, with the quality parameters maintained at the prefered level. Moreover, profits may be increased.

  • 과실 포장화물(packaged freight)은 과실, 완충재 및 겉포장 상자로 구성되며, 속포장(내포장)하지 않는 것이 식품 포장이나 다른 포장과 구별된다. 그러나 과실 개개를 보호하기 위한 낱포장(단위포장)은 중요시되며, 사용되는 완충재가 이 기능을 한다. 과실 포장에 사용되는 겉포장 상자는 제품 취급의 편리성을 도모할 뿐만 아니라, 물류 과정 중에 제품의 보호와 상품에 대한 정보를 제공하는 포장 역할의 주체가 된다. 또한 완충재는 포장물에 전달되는 충격과 진동 등의 외력 완화와 응력 분산, 포장물의 표면보호, 상호간의 접촉방지 및 이동방지의 기능을 수행한다. 종전까지는 골판지 상자에 의한 포장화물 단위로 취급되는 경우가 대부분 이었는데, 농산물의 물류합리화와 물류비 절감 문제가 본격 대두되면서, 팰리트를 활용한 단위화물 적재 시스템(ULS) 즉, 팰리트 화물(palletized freight) 상태로 취급되는 경우가 점차 확대되고 있고 정부에서도 이를 적극 지원하고 있다.   • Electronic products are subjected to many different types of shock environment. As the Optical Disc Drive (ODD) market grows, the number of failures related to shock increases. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the performance of cushion package as well as the product design. Cushion materials such as expanded polystyrene are often used to protect electronic products from shock environment. In this paper, the drop analysis of the cushion package f3r optical disc drives was carried out with the explicit method of LS-DYNA and verified by the drop test. For the optimization of package, response surface approximation model was created using central composite design. As a result, cushioning performance was improved under the critical condition and practical design guidelines of cushion package were suggested.

  • Optical disk drives (ODDs) are subjected to vibrations caused by the high-speed rotation of the optical disk, and these vibrations can be excessive and reduce the read/write performance. Elastic rubber mounts with cushioning materials are often used to minimize these problems. In this paper, the source of vibrations was identified by experimental modal tests and high-speed photography. Structural modifications were made based on a lumped parameter model and a finite element model.

  • This paper deals with the finite element model of the monitor for the simulation of directional free drop tests such as backward, sideward, edge and vertex drop. The model was made for an unconditional stable solution for the explicit integration algorithm. The general behaviors at the time of impact were found to well correlate with the actual situation in terms of acceleration, displacement, contact force and stress of monitor components even though the experiment of the associated drop is performed for the validity of the model.

  • Since epoxy resin coating shows excellent properties in formability, adhesion, and corrosion resistance, they have been extensively used in many industries. However, various types of damages in the epoxy coated tube within a relative short time have been reported due to cavitation erosion, liquid impingement, variation of temperature and pressure. Nevertheless, there has been little research on the effect of temperature on the cavitation degradation of epoxy coatings. Therefore, this work used an ultrasonic cavitation tester to focus on the effect of solution temperature on the cavitation properties of 3 kinds of epoxy coatings in 3.5% NaCl. The cavitation properties were discussed basis on the material properties and environmental aspects. As the solution temperature increased, even though with large fluctuation, the cavitation degradation rates of A and B coatings were reduced rapidly, but the rate of C coating was decreased gradually. In addition to the cushioning effect, the reason that the cavitation degradation rate reduced with solution temperature was partly related to the brittle fracture and water absorptivity of the epoxy coatings, and the water density, but was little related to the shape and composition of the compound in the coatings or the phase transition of the epoxy coating.
