In this study, field measurements were investigated to analyze the load sharing ratio and behavior of piled raft foundation. The field measurements were performed for about 300 days from the start of construction. The geometry of the raft is $3.1m{\times}3.1m$, and the pre-cast and pre-bored pile is 23 m in length and 0.508 m in diameter. Based on the field measurements, the load-settlement relationship of the piled raft foundation was obtained, and the load sharing ratio of the pile was converged to 70% at ultimate loading condition. The load sharing ratio of the pile increased as the settlement increased, and this is because the surface friction of the weathered soil, which is at the lower ground, was significantly increased. Based on the results of the field measurements, load transfer curves were obtained and applied to a numerical analysis by using load transfer method.
This study was performed for the purpose of determining the effects of distribution of the lateral earth pressure in the case of sloping backfills of being consisted of the idealized cohesionless fragmental masses. The displacements were classified as eight types by D_UBROVA (by patterns). B type among these has its turning point at the top of the wall, moves outwardly and is significant to gravitational structure because of its foundation elasticity which causes displacement. Therefore, it might be surely acknowledged that the resultant, follows; $$E=1/2{\cdot}rH^2\frac{sin(u-{\varepsilon})cos({\alpha}+{\varepsilon})}{cos(u+{\alpha})}{\cdot}cot(u+{\rho})(t/m^3)$$, is appropriate for applying it to the designing of the sand-catch dams. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Lateral earth pressure is proportional to the square of the wall heights. 2. The coefficient(K) is directly proportional to the sloping of backfill surface and inversely proportional to the displacement. 3. The distribution of the pressure looks like parabola, curve of second order (Fig. 5, b). 4. The distribution of the pressure strength looks like that of hydrostatic pressure (Fig. 5, c).
The contamination effect of toluene in the airstream on PEM fuel cell performance was studied with various toluene concentration under different operation conditions. And the recovery of the cell performance by applying clean air and the removal of toluene in the air by adsorption of active carbon were investigated. The toluene concentration range used in the experiments was from 0.1 ppm to 5.0 ppm. The performance degradation and recovery were measured by constant-current discharging and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Toluene adsorption capacity of KOH impregnated active carbon was obtained from the adsorption isotherm curve. The severity of the contamination increased with increasing toluene concentration, current density and air stoichiometry, but decrease with increasing relative humidity. The cell performance was recovered by toluene oxidation with oxygen and water in humidified neat air. EIS showed that the increase of charge transfer resistance due to toluene adsorption on Pt surface mainly reduced the performance of PEMFC. Toluene adsorption capacity of active carbon decreased as KOH weight increased in KOH impregnated active carbon.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate hydrological impact by the land cover change of typhoon damage. For the typhoon RUSA (rainfall 1,402 mm) occurred in 2002 (August $31\;{\sim}$ September 1), satellite images of Landsat 7 ETM+ of September 29, 2000 and Landsat 5 TM of September 11, 2002 were selected, and each land cover was classified for Namdae-cheon watershed $192.7km^2$ located in the middle-eastern part of Korea Peninsula. SCS unit hydrograph for watershed runoff and Muskingum for streamflow routing of WMS HEC-1 was adopted. 30m resolution DEM & hydrological soil group using 1:50,000 soil map were prepared. The model was calibrated using three available data of storm events of 1985 to 1988 based on 1985 land cover condition. To predict the streamflow change by damaged land cover condition, rainfall of 50 years to 500 years frequency were generated using 2nd quantile of Huff method. The damaged land cover condition treated as bare soil surface increased streamflow of $50.1\;m^3/sec$ for 50 years rainfall frequency and $67.6\;m^3/sec$ for 500 years rainfall frequency based on AMC-I condition. There may be some speedy treatment by the government for the next coming typhoon damage.
Polypropylene (PP)/corn starch master batch (starch-MB) blends with different PP compositions of 40, 50, 60, and 80 wt% were prepared by melt compounding at $200^{\circ}C$, using lab scale Brabender mixer. The chemical structures and thermal properties of the PP/starch-MB blends were investigated by FT-IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The chemical structure was confirmed by the existence of hydroxy group. There was no district change in melting temperature and melting enthalpy, and TGA curve indicated a decrease in degradation temperature with starch-MB content. The porosity change of blend was measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM), the degree of porosity on the blend surface increased with the starch-MB content. The rheological properties indicated an increase in complex viscosity, shear thinning tendency and elasticity with the starch-MB concentration. These effects were confirmed by an oscillatory viscometer at $200^{\circ}C$. From these results, it is found that 40 wt% is the optimum starch-MB concentration. The fiber was fabricated from PP60/MB40 with 40 wt% starch-MB and the porosity and tensile properties were investigated.
In this paper, we propose a novel noiseless method of BRDF rendering on a GPU in real-time. Illumination at a surface point is formulated as an integral of BRDF producted with incident radiance over the hemi-sphere domain. The most popular method to compute the integral is the Monte Carlo method, which needs a large number of samples to achieve good image quality. But, it leads to increase of rendering time. Otherwise, a small number of sample points cause serious image noise. The main contribution of our work is a new importance sampling scheme producing a set of incoming ray samples varying continuously with respect to the eye ray. An incoming ray is importance-based sampled at different latitude angles of the eye ray, and then the ray samples are linearly connected to form a curve, called a thread. These threads give continuously moving incident rays for eye ray change, so they do not make image noise. Since even a small number of threads can achieve a plausible quality and also can be precomputed before rendering, they enable real-time BRDF rendering on the GPU.
This study investigates the existing theoretical backgrounds in order to examine the behavior of lateral flow according to the plasticity of soils when unsymmetrical surcharge is worked on polluted soft soils by comparing and analyzing the results measured through model tests. Model tests are canied out as follows soil tank, bearing frame and bearing plate are made. By increasing unsymmetrical surcharge to the ground soils with the consistent water content and with gradually increased polluted materials at intervals, the amounts of settlement, lateral displacement and upheaval were respectively observed. In conclusion, the value of critical surcharge was expressed as q$_{cr}$=2.78$_{cu}$ which was similar to those Tschebotarioff(q$_{cr}$=3.0$_{cu}$) and Meyerhof(q$_{cr}$=(B/2H+$\pi$/2)$_{cu}$) had been proposed. The value of ultimate capacity was expressed as q$_{ult}$=4.84$_{cu}$ which was similar to that of Prandtl. The lateral flow pressure is adeQuately calculated by the eQuation(P$_{max}$=K$_o$ r H) and the maximum value of lateral flow pressure is found near O.3H of layer thickness(H) and is higher to ground surface than the ones in composition pattern, Poulos distribution pattern and softclay soils (CL, CH) which is not polluted. The stability control method used in this research followed the management diagram of Tominaga.Hashimoto, Shibata.Sekiguchi, Matsuo.Kawamura who use the amounts of plasticity displacement by lateral flow. As a result, the ultimate capacity values in the diagram {S$_v$-(Y$_m$/S$_v$)} of Matsuo.Kawamura and in the diagram {(q/Y$_m$)-q} of Shibata. Sekiguchi were smaller than in the ones of load-settlement curve (q-S$_v$).

Many slope failures are induced by rainfall infiltration. A lot of recent researches are therefore focused on rainfall-induced slope instability and the rainfall infiltration is recognized as the important triggering factor. The rainfall infiltrates into the soil slope and makes the matric suction lost in the slope and even the positive pore water pressure develops near the surface of the slope. They decrease the resisting shear strength. In Korea, a few public institutions suggested conservative slope design guidelines that assume a fully saturated soil condition. However, this assumption is irrelevant and sometimes soil properties are misused in the slope design method to fulfill the requirement. In this study, a more relevant slope stability evaluation method is suggested to take into account the real rainfall infiltration phenomenon. Unsaturated soil properties such as shear strength, soil-water characteristic curve and permeability for Korean weathered soils were obtained by laboratory tests and also estimated by artificial neural network models. For real-time assessment of slope instability, failure warning criteria of slope based on deterministic and probabilistic analyses were introduced to complement uncertainties of field measurement data. The slope stability evaluation technique can be combined with field measurement data of important factors, such as matric suction and water content, to develop an early warning system for probably unstable slopes due to the rainfall.
The structural characteristics of Antheraea yamamai and Antheraea pernyi silk were investigated by using x-ray diffraction method, IR spectroscopy and polarizing microscopy. The amino acid composition, fiber density, thermal decomposition temperature and glass transition temperature were also measured for relating these physical properties to the structure in comparison with those of Bombyx mori silk fiber. There was no significant structural difference between A. yamamai and A. pernyi silk fiber on an examination of x-ray diffraction curve and IR spectrum. Both of these wild silk fibers showed double diffraction peaks at the Bragg angle 2Θ16.7˚ and 20.5˚by x-ray diffraction analysis as well as IR absorption peaks for the bending vibration of specific groups related to ala-ala amino acid sequence. On the other hand, the x-ray diffraction curve and IR spectrum of Bombyx mori silk fiber are different from those of wild silk fibers, indicating different crystal structure as well as amino acid sequences. It showed under the polarizing microscope examination that the birefringence and optical orientation factor of wild silk fibers are much lower than those of B. mori silk. Also, the surface of degummed wild silk fibers was characterized by the longitudinal stripes of microfibrils in the direction of fiber axies. The amino acid composition, which is strongly related to the fine structure and properties, was not significantly different between these two wild silk fibers. However, the alanine content was somewhat less and polar amino acid content more for A. yamamai. As a result of fiber density measurement, the specific gravities of B. mori, A. pernyi and A. yamamai were 1.355~1.356, 1.308~1.311, 1.265~1.301g/㎤ in the order, respectively. The calculated crystallinity(%) was 64% for B. mori and 51~52% for wild silk fibers, which showed same trend by IR method in spite of somewhat higher value. The thermal decomposition behaviour was examined by DSC and TGA, showing that the degradation temperature was in the order of B mori, A. prernyi and A. yamamai at around 350$^{\circ}C$. It was also observed by TGA that the decomposition seems to proceed step by step according to their specific regions in the fiber structure, resulting the difference in their thermal stabilities. The glass transition temperature was turned out to be 220$^{\circ}C$ for B. mori, 240$^{\circ}C$ A. yamamai and 255$^{\circ}C$ A. pernyi by the dynamic mechanical analysis. It is expected that the chemical properties are affected by the dynamic mechanical behavior in accordance with their structural characters.
For intraoperative radiation therapy using electron beams, a cone system to deliver a large dose to the tumor during surgical operation and to save the surrounding normal tissue should be developed and dosimetry for the cone system is necessary to find proper X-ray collimator setting as well as to get useful data for clinical use. We developed a docking type of a cone system consisting of two parts made of aluminum: holder and cone. The cones which range from 4cm to 9cm with 1cm step at 100cm SSD of photon beam are 28cm long circular tubular cylinders. The system has two 26cm long holders: one for the cones larger than or equal to 7cm diamter and another for the smaller ones than 7cm. On the side of the holder is an aperture for insertion of a lamp and mirror to observe treatment field. Depth dose curve. dose profile and output factor at dept of dose maximum. and dose distribution in water for each cone size were measured with a p-type silicone detector controlled by a linear scanner for several extra opening of X-ray collimators. For a combination of electron energy and cone size, the opening of the X-ray collimator was caused to the surface dose, depths of dose maximum and 80%, dose profile and output factor. The variation of the output factor was the most remarkable. The output factors of 9MeV electron, as an example, range from 0.637 to 1.549. The opening of X-ray collimators would cause the quantity of scattered electrons coming to the IORT cone system. which in turn would change the dose distribution as well as the output factor. Dosimetry for an IORT cone system is inevitable to minimize uncertainty in the clinical use.
