Simultaneous Quench Characteristic of Resistive Superconducting Fault Current Limiting Modules by using BSCCO Tape

  • Recently, the resistive Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) made with Coated Conductor (CC) has been researched with an advanced capability in CC. Current limiting elements must be connected in series in order to fabricate the resistive SFCL having large capacity. By the way, unless the applied voltage in the SFCL is distributed to the elements when the fault occurred, those elements will be critically damaged. Thus simultaneous quench of the elements is an important factor to design the resistive SFCL. In this paper, simultaneous quench characteristics of current limiting module by using BSCCO 2223 were researched before manufacturing the resistive SFCL by using CC. At the first fault stage, the elements generated the resistance at the same time. However, the unequal voltage is applied to the each element in process of time. The method is suggested to solve the problem of the unequal distribution. These experimental results will play an important part in developing for the resistive SFCL by using CC.

  • We investigated the fault current limiting characteristics according to the various facilities in power system. Power systems are becoming larger and larger for meeting electric power demand. Therefore, the over-currents resulting from contingencies such as short circuits are increasing higher, which causes the ratings of circuit breakers(CBs) to increase. Upgrading or replacement of CBs is not difficult from the technical and economical point of view. Bus split is being adopted into a part of 154 kV power systems, but it has adverse effects such as overload to neighboring power systems, increased voltage fluctuation, and decreased power system stability. For 345 kV power systems, the bus split measure is not feasible and dc reactors are being suggested. The superconducting fault current limiter is a protection gear of new concept that limits fault current automatically in a few milliseconds. It can also provide the effect of CB capacity increase, relaxation of power machine criteria, enhancement in power system reliability, and flexible power system operation.

해양구조물용 RE36강 용접부의 부식거동 및 기계적 특성에 미치는 용접후 열처리 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Post-Weld Heat Treatment Effect Affecting Corrosion Behavior and Mechanical Property of Welding Part of RE36 Steel for Marine Structure)

  • A study on the corrosion behavior in case of As-welded and PWHT temperature 55$0^{\circ}C$ of welding part of RE36 steel for marine structure was investigated with parameters such as micro-Vickers hardness, corrosion potential measurement of weld metal(WM), base metal(BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ), both Al anode generating current and Al anode weight loss quantity under sacrificial anode cathodic protection conditions. And also we carried out slow strain rate test(SSRT) in order to research both limiting cathodic polarization potential for hydrogen embrittlement and optimum cathodic protection potential as well as mechanical properties by post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) effect. Hardness of HAZ was the highest among three parts(WM, BM and HAZ) and the highest galvanic corrosion susceptibility was HAZ. And the optimum cathodic polarization potential showing the best mechanical properties by SSRT method was from -770mV to -875mV(SCE). In analysis of SEM fractography, applied cathodic potential from -770mV to -875mV(SCE) it appeared dimple pattern with ductile fracture while it showed transgranular pattern (Q. C : quasicleavage) under -900mV(SCE). However it is suggested that limiting cathodic polarization potential indicating hydrogen embrittlement was under -900mV(SCE).

초전도 한류모듈 내 고온초전도 선재 배치에 따른 교류손실 변화 (AC loss dependency on the arrangement of the HTS wires in the current limiting module for SFCL)

  • Usually, the AC loss from the superconducting element of an SFCL due to the load current is very small because it is composed of the combination of bifilar windings with very small reactance. Although the AC loss is small enough, we should be albe to predict for the design and control of the cryogenic system. In fact, an SFCL for the transmission voltage class may not generate ignorable AC loss because of the inevitable space between the HTS wires for the high voltage insulation and cryogenic efficiency. To measure the AC loss dependency on the space between the 2G HTS wires with the width of 4.4 mm, we prepared an experimental setup which could adjust the distance between the wires. We used two 500-mm length HTS wires in parallel and applied the current in the opposite direction for each wire to simulate a part of a current limiting module for a high voltage SFCL. We also put two couples of voltage taps at the ends of each wire and a cancel coil in the voltage measurement circuit to compensate the reactive component from the voltage taps. In this condition, we varied the distance between the wires to investigate the change of the transport current loss. A similar experimental study with HTS wire with the width of 12 mm is now in progress.

  • 매트릭스형 초전도 한류기는 구조의 특성상 여러개의 초전도 소자가 삽입되게 되었다. 이러한 여러개의 초전도 소자들 중 어느 한 개가 열화되거나 고장이 발생했을때 한류 동작이 정상적으로 이루어지지 않는다면 안정성면에서 신뢰성을 얻기는 힘들 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 직 병렬로 연결된 초전도 소자의 고장 소자의 위치에 따른 한류기의 동작특성을 비교 분석하였다. 삼상 매트릭스형 초전도 한류기의 trigger part와 current-limiting part의 초전도 소자 단선시 사고전류 제한 특성과 정상동작하는 초전도 소자의 전압특성을 비교 분석하였다.

  • This study examined the Korean drivers' acceptance of SAS(Speed Assistance systems) and traffic sign conditions in Korea roads for SLIF(Speed Limit Information Function) that is a part of SAS. Exceeding the speed limit is a factor in the severity of many road accidents and SAS would help the driver to observe a speed limit by warning and/or effectively limiting the speed of the vehicle. SAS are in the initial phase in Korea, Korean drivers could not be familiar with automatical speed limiting during driving, SAS interface design would be considered to be more readily acceptable to the public. And advanced SAS have been introduced onto the market which are able to inform the driver of the current speed limit based on camera and/or digital maps based SLIF. These systems are based on external data using sensors, so environmental conditions are an important factor which could cause malfunction of SLIF functions.

YBCO소자의 연결방법에 의한 자속구속형 초전도 한류기의 퀜치특성의 향상 (Improvement of Quench Properties of a Flux-Lock Type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter by the Connection Method of YBCO Elements)

  • We investigated the quench characteristics of a flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) depending on the methods of the serial and parallel connections between the superconducting elements. The flux-lock type SFCL consists of two coils. The primary coil is wound in parallel to the secondary coil through an iron core, and the secondary coil is connected to the superconducting elements in series and parallel. In this paper, the analyses of voltage, current, and resistance of the superconducting elements connected in serial and parallel were performed to increase the power capacity of the flux-lock type SFCL. A part of the superconducting elements was not quenched in $2{\times}2$ serial connection between the elements and then the power burden of the quenched elements was increased. However the elements with $2{\times}2$ parallel connection was all quenched. This means that the power burden of each superconducting element can be reduced under the same conditions. We found that $2{\times}2$ parallel connection was more profitable for the current limiting effects and the increase of the power capacity.

동인천 민자역사 활성화 방안에 관한 연구 (The study of Dong-Incheon private-invested station development)

  • Until now, Many papers were written by graduate school students and consultents about railway station as main consideration. But there is no paper about specific private-invested station development. So in this paper, Just consider limiting Dong-Incheon private-invested station on a noncompetitive point of view that also constructed as a part of railway station development. This paper will be referenced of private-invested station management and direction of development in Korail railway station development. Private-invested station development is actively drived to now after Seoul private-invested station in 1989 as Korail's first induced private capital. Dong-Incheon private-invested station also built in 1989 and operated to now, but it can't keep up with current market and can't meet changeable commercial business. So in this paper, comparing Dong-Incheon private-invested station with one of the successful private-invested stations which is youngdengpo private-invested station and seeking the improvement direction of Dong-Incheon private-invested station as considering Dong-Incheon private-invested station's floating, traffic system, walking line, the range of station, the development type, facilities, and other nation's developing cases.

A Study on Thimble Plug Removal for PWR Plants

  • The thermal-hydraulic effects of removing the RCC guide thimble plugs are evaluated for 8 Westinghouse type PWR plants in Korea as a part of feasibility study: core outlet loss coefficient, thimble bypass flow, and best estimate flow. It is resulted that the best estimate thimble bypass flow increases about by 2% and the best estimate flow increases approximately by 1.2%. The resulting DNBR penalties can be covered with the current DNBR margin. Accident analyses are also investigated that the dropped rod transient is shown to be limiting and relatively sensitive to bypass flow variation.
