  • Power capacitor is generally installed to compensate for the low power factor of inductive load But it has been used as passive filter to reduce harmonics generated by the power conversion device. Passive filter is composed by the series connection of reactor and capacitor. Because passive filter has play an important role on the absorber of harmonics, it takes voltage and current stress, follows partially burned on flamed and degradation, finally it has not guaranteed normal life. In this paper, we analyzed the effect that passive filter installed at the source side of PWM inverter is received by harmonics absorption.

  • This paper presents an implementation of digital high-performance speed sensorless control system of an induction motor drives with Direct Torque Control(DTC). The system consists of closed loop stator flux and torque observer, speed and torque estimators, two hysteresis controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and TMS320C31 DSP controller board. The stator flux observer is based on the combined current and voltage model with stator flux feedback adaptive control for wide speed range. The speed estimator is using the model reference adaptive system(MRAS) with rotor flux linkages for speed turning signal estimation. In order to prove the suggested speed sensorless control algorithm, and to obtain a high-dynamic robust adaptive performance, we have some simulations and actual experiments at low(20rpm) and high(1000rpm) speed areas. The developed speed sensorless system are shown a good speed control response characteristic, and high performance features using 2.2[kW] general purposed induction motor.

  • This paper presents a detailed realization of direct torque controlled induction motor drive for elevator applications. The drive is controlled according to the well-known space vector modulated direct control scheme (SVM-DTC). As the elevator drives are usually equipped with speed sensors, flux estimation is carried out using a current model where two stator currents are measured and accurate instantaneous rotor speed measurement is used to overcome the need for measuring stator voltages. Speed profiling for a comfortable elevator ride and other supervisory control activities to provide smooth operation are also explained. The drive performance is examined and controllers' parameters are fine-tuned using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The blocks used for flux and torque estimation and control in the offline simulation are compiled for real-time using dSPACE Microlabox. The performance of the drive has been verified experimentally. The results show good performance under transient and steady state conditions.

  • This paper presents a control strategy for voltage-controlled multi-function distributed generation (DG) combined with an active power filter (APF) and a reactive power compensator. The control strategy is based on droop control. As a result of local nonlinear loads, the voltages of the point of common coupling (PCC) and the currents injecting into the grid by the DG are distorted. The power quality of the PCC voltage can be enhanced by using PCC harmonic compensation. In addition, with the PCC harmonic compensation, the DG offers a low-impedance path for harmonic currents. Therefore, the DG absorbs most of the harmonic currents generated by local loads, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid connected current is dramatically reduced. Furthermore, by regulating the reactive power of the DG, the magnitude of the PCC voltage can be maintained at its nominal value. The performance of the DG with the proposed control strategy is analyzed by bode diagrams. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the proposed control strategy.

  • The growing application and the numerous qualities of induction motors (1M) in industrial processes that require high security and reliability levels has led to the development of multiple methods for early fault detection. However, various faults can occur, such as stator short-circuits and rotor failures. Traditionally the diagnosis machine is done through a sinusoidal power supply, in the present paper we study experimentally the effects of the rotor failures, such as broken rotor bars in function of the ac supplying, the load and show the impact of the converter from diagnosis of the machine. The technique diagnosis used is based on the spectral analysis of stator currents or stator voltages respectively according to the types of induction motor ac supplying. So, four different ac supplying are considered: ${\odot}$ the IM is directly by the balanced three-phase network voltage source, ${\odot}$ the IM is fed by a sinusoidal current source given the controlled by hysteresis, ${\odot}$ the IM is fed (in open loop) by a scalar control imposing through ratio V/f=constant, ${\odot}$ the IM is controlled through a vector control using space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique inverter with an outer speed loop.

  • In this paper, simulation and experimental results are presented, including the implementation of a digital controller for robust output voltage control of a single-phase voltage source inverters (VSIs) and total harmonic distortion (T.H.D.v) analysis. Typically, the VSIs uses a proportional integral (PI) controller for the current controller on the inner loop and a proportional resonant (PR) controller for the voltage controller on the outer loop to control the output voltage. However, non-linear loads still produce high-order odd harmonic distortion. Therefore, in this paper, a proportional multiple resonance (PMR) controller with a resonance controller for odd harmonic frequencies is proposed to suppress harmonic distortion. Analyze the frequency response of controllers for VSI plants and design PMR controllers. Through simulation, the total harmonic distortion characteristics of the output voltage are compared and verified when PI and PMR are used as voltage controllers. Both linear and non-linear loading conditions were considered. Finally, the effectiveness of the PMR controller was demonstrated by applying it to a 3kW VSIs prototype.

  • This paper dealt with the design and fabrication of a low frequency electronic ballast for ruh attracting lamps. The proposed electronic ballast was composed of a full-wave rectifier, a step don converter operated as a constant power controled current source, an inverter operated by 130 Hz square wave, and an ignition circuit. An acoustic resonance phenomenon of discharge lamps could be eliminated by application of 130 Hz square wave. Also, a circuit of high voltage pulse generation for lamp ignition was added to the ballast. From the experimental results, voltage and current of the lamp operated by the electronic ballast were estimated 132.5 V and 7.6 A, respectively. and the power consumption was about 1,000 W. The weight of the ballast, which is one of important advantages, was reduced to one-fifth of conventional magnetic ballasts.

For this purpose, several kind of real-time reactive power/power factor compensating equipments are introduced and SVG(Static Var Generator) as optimal compensating equipment that is suitable for load characteristics of substation in marshalling yard is suggested. This paper shows proper simulations by suggested equipment using PSIM software and describe basic compensating principle and simulation results. Optimal capacity design for applying current marshalling yard is based on real measured power quality data. Power quality improvement that is performed by SVG as real-time reactive power/power factor compensating equipment is estimated at electrical railway's substation in marshalling yard. • Multi-phase machines can be used in variable speed drives. Their applications include electric ship propulsion, 'more-electric aircraft' and traction applications, electric vehicles, and hybrid electric vehicles. Multi-phase machines enable independent control of a few numbers of machines that are connected in series in a particular manner with their supply being fed from a single voltage source inverter(VSI). The idea was first implemented for a five-phase series-connected two-motor drive system, but is now applicable to any number of phases more than or equal to five-phase. The number of series-connected machines is a function of the phase number of VSI. Theoretical and simulation studies have already been reported for number of multi-phase multi-motor drive configurations of series-connection type. Variable speed induction motor drives without mechanical speed sensors at the motor shaft have the attractions of low cost and high reliability. To replace the sensor, information concerning the rotor speed is extracted from measured stator currents and voltages at motor terminals. Open-loop estimators or closed-loop observers are used for this purpose. They differ with respect to accuracy, robustness, and sensitivity against model parameter variations. This paper analyses operation of an MRAS estimator based sensorless control of a vector controlled series-connected two-motor five-phase drive system with current control in the stationary reference frame. Results, obtained with fixed-voltage, fixed-frequency supply, and hysteresis current control are presented for various operating conditions on the basis of simulation results. The purpose of this paper is to report the first ever simulation results on a sensorless control of a five-phase two-motor series-connected drive system. The operating principle is given followed by a description of the sensorless technique.
