In this paper, an intra prediction offset compensation method is proposed to improve intra prediction in H.264/AVC. In H.264/AVC, intra prediction based on various directions improves the coding efficiency by removing spatial correlation between neighboring blocks. In details, neighboring pixels in reconstructed block can be used as intra reference block for the current block to be coded when intra prediction method is used. In order to reduce further the prediction error of the intra reference block, the proposed method introduces an intra prediction offset which is determined in the sense of the rate-distortion optimization and is added to the conventional intra prediction block. Besides the intra prediction offset compensation, the coefficient thresholding method which is used for inter coding in JM 11.0, is used for chroma component in intra block, which leads the improvement of the luma coding efficiency of the proposed method. In experiments, we show that the proposed method achieves average 2.45% in High Profile condition and maximum 4.41% of bitrate reduction relative to JM 11.0.
Under the current policies and compensation rules in South Korea, Photovoltaic (PV) generation supplier can maximize the profit by combining PV generation with Energy Storage System (ESS). However, the existing operational strategy of ESS is not able to maximize the profit due to the limitation of ESS capacity. In this paper, new ESS scheduling algorithm is introduced by utilizing the System Marginal Price (SMP) and PV generation forecasting to maximize the profits of PV generation supplier. The proposed algorithm determines the charging time of ESS by ranking the charging schedule from low to high SMP when PV generation is more than enough to charge ESS. The discharging time of ESS is determined by ranking the discharging schedule from high to low SMP when ESS energy is not enough to maintain the discharging. To compensate forecasting error, the algorithm is updated every hour to apply the up-to-date information. The simulation is performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by using actual PV generation and ESS information.

Surface deflections have a great effect on the external appearance of automobiles. Usually, they are occurred on large flat panels containing sudden shape changes and of very small size about $\pm$30$\sim$300$\mu$m. Since the current numerical method is not sufficient for predicting these defects, the correction of these defects still depends on trial and error, which requires a great deal of time and expense. Consequently, developing the numerical method to predict and prevent these defects is very important far improving cosmetic surface qualities. In this study, an evaluation system that can analyze surface deflections using numerical simulation and a visualization system are reported. To calculate the surface deflections numerically, robust algorithms and simulation methodologies are suggested and to visualize them quantitatively, the curvature variation algorithm is proposed. To verify the developed systems, the experimental die of the handle portion of exterior door is analyzed. The results showed that the experimental and simulational visualization are in good agreement. Compensation methods to correct the surface deflections are also tested. The evaluation system proposed in this paper could be used to predict and minimize the occurrence of surface deflections in die manufacturing.

These days, the size of a reflective telescope has been increasing for astronomical observation. An additional optical system usually assists a large ground telescope for image analysis or the compensation of air turbulence. To guide collimated light to the external optical system through a designated path, a coudé mirror is usually adopted. Including a collimator, a coudé mirror of a ground telescope is affected by gravity, depending on the telescope's pointing direction. The mirror surface is deformed by the weight of the mirror itself and its mount, which deteriorates the optical performance. In this research, we propose an optimization method for the coudé mirror assembly for a 1-m class ground telescope that minimizes the gravitational surface error (SFE). Here the mirror support positions and the sizes of the mount structure are optimized using finite element analysis and the response surface optimization method in both the horizontal and vertical directions, considering the telescope's altitude angle. Throughout the whole design process, the coefficients of the Zernike polynomials are calculated and their amplitude changes are monitored to determine the optimal design parameters. At the same time, the design budgets for the thermal SFE and the mass and size of the mount are reflected in the study.

Nonreciprocal twin-toroid ferrite phase shifter is designed, fabricated, and tested. ABCD matrix method is used to design the phase shifter and to compute its optimum dimen- sions. Quarter-wave two-section impedance matching transformers are utilized in order to match the impedance of the empty guide to that of the ferrite-loaded guide. Driving circuit controls the current needed to drive the phase shifter. Measured insertion loss and VSWR characteristics within the operaring band(9.1GHz ~ 9.5GHz) are less than 1.2dB and 1.15, respectively. After temperature compensation technique is appied to the phase shifter, the measured phase error of the phase shifter is less than $\pm4$ between $-10^{\circ}C\;and\;+60^{\circ}C$.

In this paper, a novel approach to using Subcircuit of Pspice in designing feedback for DC-DC converter systems is proposed. Proposed new approach, the feedback design procedures which are based on small signal modeling are programmed as a subcircuit in Pspice. For this purpose, Analog Behavioral Modeling (ABM) is used. By using the subcircuit, the component values of the error compensation amplifier can be easily obtained by means of Pspice DC analysis. The methodology of development is presented in detail and application examples demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach in designing feedbacks for DC-DC converters. The converter with PWM method used continuous current mode and calculated buck converter control signal with average and linear current technique. To decide pole and zero K-method was adapted and this kind of design procedure took stable function.
In conventional video coding, encoder complexity is much higher than that of decoder. However, investigations for lightweight encoder to eliminate motion prediction/compensation claiming most complexity in encoder have recently become an important issue. The Wyner-Ziv coding is one of the representative schemes for the problem and, in this scheme, since encoder generates only parity bits of a current frame without performing any type of processes extracting correlation information between frames, it has an extremely simple structure compared to conventional coding techniques. However, in Wyner-Ziv coding, channel decoding errors occur when noisy side information is used in channel decoding process. These channel decoding errors appear more frequently, especially, when there is not enough correlation between frames to generate accurate side information and, as a result, those errors look like Salt & Pepper type noise in the reconstructed frame. Since this noise severely deteriorates subjective video quality even though such noise rarely occurs, previously we proposed a computationally extremely light encoding method based on selective median filter that corrects such noise using spatial correlation of a frame. However, in the previous method, there is a problem that loss of texture from filtering may exceed gain from error correction by the filter for video sequences having complex torture. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an improved lightweight encoding method that minimizes loss of texture detail from filtering by allowing information of texture and that of noise in side information to be utilized by the selective median filter. Our experiments have verified average PSNR gain of up to 0.84dB compared to the previous method.

In airborne gravimetry, there are two data streams. One is the specific force measured by an air/sea gravimeter or accelerometers, the other is kinematic acceleration measured by DGPS. And the difference of them provides the gravity disturbance information. To satisfy the requirement of most applications, an accuracy of 1mGal $(1mCal=10^{-5}m/s^{2})$ with a spatial resolution of 1km is the aim of current airborne gravimetry. There are two different methods to derive the kinematic acceleration. The generally used method is to differentiate the position twice, and the position can be calculated by commercial DGPS software. The main defect of this method is that integer ambiguities need to be fixed to get the precise position solution, but it's not a trivial thing for long base line. And to fix integer ambiguities, the noisier iono-free measurement is used. When differentiation is applied, noise is amplified and will influence the accuracy of acceleration. The other method is to get carrier phase acceleration by differentiate the carrier phase first, and then using the acceleration of GPS satellite to derive the vehicle acceleration. The main advantages include that fixing integer ambiguities is not needed anymore, position can be relaxed to about 10 meters, and smoother acceleration can be got since iono-free measurement is not needed. In some literatures, it's considered that the dynamic performance of the second method is inferior to that of the first. Through analysis, it is found that the performance degradation in dynamic environment results from the simplification of the GPS carrier phase observable model. And an iterative algorithm is presented to compensate the model error. Using a dynamic GPS data from an aeromagnetic survey, the importance of this compensation is showed at last.

Objective: This study examined the effects of stimulating fingertip temperature on the patterns of force sharing and stability properties during multi-finger force production tasks. Method: 9 adult subjects (male: 3, female: 6, age: $26.11{\pm}4.01yrs$, height: $169.22{\pm}5.97cm$, weight: $61.44{\pm}11.27kg$) participated in this study. The experiment consisted of three blocks: 1) maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) task, 2) single-finger ramp task to quantify enslaving (i.e., unintended force production by non-task fingers), and 3) 12 trials of multi-finger steady-state force production task at 20% MVC. There were three temperature conditions including body-temperature (i.e., control condition), $40^{\circ}C$, and $43^{\circ}C$, and the stimulation was given to the index finger only for all experimental conditions. Results: There were no significant differences in the MVC forces, enslaving, and the accuracy of performance during the steady-state task between the conditions. However, the share of stimulated index finger force increased with the index fingertip temperature, while the share of middle finger force decreased. Also, the coefficient of variation of both index and middle finger forces over repetitive trials increased with the index fingertip temperature. Under the framework of the uncontrolled manifold (UCM) hypothesis used to quantify indices of multi-finger synergies (i.e., stability property) stabilizing total force during the steady-state task, the two variance components within the UCM analysis increased together with the fingertip temperature, while no changes in the synergy indices between the conditions. Conclusion: The current results showed that fingertip temperature stimulation only to index finger does not affect to muscle force production capability of multi-finger, independence of individual fingers, and force production accuracy by the involvement of all four fingers. The effect of fingertip temperature on the sharing pattern and force variation may be due to diffuse reflex effects of the induced afferent activity on alpha-motoneuronal pools. However, the unchanged stability properties may be the reflection of the active error compensation strategies by non-stimulated finger actions.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of changes in degrees of freedom of the fingers (i.e., the number of the fingers involved in tasks) on the task performance during force production and releasing task. Method: Eight right-handed young men (age: $29.63{\pm}3.02yr$, height: $1.73{\pm}0.04m$, weight: $70.25{\pm}9.05kg$) participated in this study. The subjects were required to press the transducers with three combinations of fingers, including the index-middle (IM), index-middle-ring (IMR), and index-middle-ring-little (IMRL). During the trials, they were instructed to maintain a steady-state level of both normal and tangential forces within the first 5 sec. After the first 5 sec, the subjects were instructed to release the fingers on the transducers as quickly as possible at a self-selected manner within the next 5 sec, resulting in zero force at the end. Customized MATLAB codes (MathWorks Inc., Natick, MA, USA) were written for data analysis. The following variables were quantified: 1) finger force sharing pattern, 2) root mean square error (RMSE) of force to the target force in three axes at the aiming phase, 3) the time duration of the release phase (release time), and 4) the accuracy and precision indexes of the virtual firing position. Results: The RMSE was decreased with the number of fingers increased in both normal and tangential forces at the steady-state phase. The precision index was smaller (more precise) in the IMR condition than in the IM condition, while no significant difference in the accuracy index was observed between the conditions. In addition, no significant difference in release time was found between the conditions. Conclusion: The study provides evidence that the increased number of fingers resulted in better error compensation at the aiming phase and performed a more constant shooting (i.e., smaller precision index). However, the increased number of fingers did not affect the release time, which may influence the consistency of terminal performance. Thus, the number of fingers led to positive results for the current task.
