This paper is presented an experimental study of flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of ammonia, and is focused on pressure gradient and heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant flow inside horizontal small tube with inner diameter of 3.0 mm and length of 2000 mm. The direct heating method is applied for supplying heat to the refrigerant, where the test tube is uniformly heated by electric current. The local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over a heat flux range of 20 to $80kW/m^2$, a mass flux range of 50 to $500kg/m^2s$, a saturation temperature range of 0 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The pressure drops increase with increasing mass flux and heat flux, and with decreasing saturation temperature. The heat transfer coefficients increase with increasing mass flux and saturation temperature in middle and high quality region. And the local heat transfer coefficient increase with increasing heat flux in low quality region. The heat transfer coefficient of the experimental result was compared with six existing heat transfer coefficient correlation. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for ammonia in small tubes is developed average deviation of -0.17% and mean deviation of 10.85%.
In the photovoltaic applications, MPPT(maximum power point tracking) method is essential due to the non-lineality of photovoltaic output characteristics. To ensure stable tracking response, two sensors are required in conventional popular MPPTs. In modularized PV system as an AC module system, the cost of a sensor can have an effect on entire system cost because a power conditioning device is connected in a PV module. Because only a current sensor is required for proposed MPPT, it is helpful in the cost reduction point of view. In this paper, a novel MPPT using current sensor is proposed In the proposed MPPT, the voltage is derived from sensed current value. The proposed method is verified by simulation results.
In this paper, a novel anti-islanding method of DC-AC single phase inverter is proposed. The inverter injects a little harmonic current with the output current of a PCS(Power Conditioning System). When the islanding condition is occurred, the voltage harmonic components appear on the output voltage of the PCS due to the injection of a little harmonic current. So, the PCS detects the voltage harmonic components using the Goertzel algorithm, and then the PCS decides that the islanding condition is occurred. When the PCS recognizes the islanding condition, the PCS are stopped. The proposed a novel anti-islanding method is analyzed, and its validity is proven through simulation.
This paper proposes a transformerless photovoltaic (PV) power converter system based on the DC/AC boost inverter, which can solve the leakage current and second-order ripple power issues in single-phase grid-connected PV inverters. In the proposed topology, the leakage current can be decreased remarkably since most of the common-mode currents flow through the output capacitor, by-passing parasitic capacitors, and grounding resistors. In addition, the inherent ripple power component in the single-phase grid inverter can be suppressed without adding any extra components. Therefore, bulky electrolytic capacitors can be replaced by small film capacitors. The effectiveness of the proposed topology has been verified by simulation and experimental results for a 1-kW PV PCS.
Maximum power point tracking for PV systems traditionally uses either perturbation and observation method or incremental conductance method. Both methods require modulation of the output voltage and this leads to significant power loss. In this paper, a method, which senses output circuit voltage and short circuit current and use the above two parameters for optimum control with a fuzzy controller, is introduced. The short circuit current of PV cell represents illumination, and the output circuit voltage carry on information about the temperature. PCS(power conditioning system) is controlled not only feed to inverter for stability voltage variation despite of variety external environment, but also operate in order to feeding voltage and current at maximum power point by boost type chopper.
As many grid-connected photovoltaic power conditioning systems (PVPCS)are installed in many residential areas simultaneously, these have raised potential problems of network protection on electrical power system. One of the numerous problems is an Islanding phenomenon. In this paper, active frequency drift (AFD) method, one of the anti-islanding methods which is analyzed by current magnitude compensation and calculation of the fundamental component. Both harmonic component and RMS value of the output current for THD analysis are provided and verified by simulation.

This paper describes minimum current control method for size reduction and performances improvement at unified inverter-induction motor system. This control method is based on V/F without speed sensor. Through the use of minimum stator current points at required torque during V/F operation it is possible to minimize the size of heat-sink related with the losses of power circuit and to improve overall efficiency compared to conventional V/F control. Using this proposed scheme, it is so much more useful to apply to some fields such a selectric vehicles. air conditioning system and textile mills where the limited space is given and required low cost.
The most important thing in the restroom is the saving water resource and the removing bad odor. Due to the waste of water and the inefficient operating system, the current urinal receptacles have been gradually replaced by the waterless urinal receptacles in the advanced countries. Therefore, this study investigated the advantages, the characteristics, and the expected problems of the current and the waterless urinal systems. Based on the comparisons between the two urinal systems from this study, the plumbing engineers can positively consider the replacement of the current urinal receptacles with the waterless ones.
Cooler driver electronics (CDE) for maintaining low temperature of the satellite payload IR sensor consists of a compressor that has a pulsation current load condition when it is operated. This pulsation current produces large voltage fluctuation, which affects both load and regulated bus stability. Thus, CDE power conditioning system consists of a primary bus, infrared power distribution unit for battery charging and protection, reverse current protection diode, and battery, which is used as a buffer. In this study, the operational mode analysis is performed by each part with equivalent impedance modeling verified through system level simulation. From this mode analysis, the safety margin for state of charge and open circuit voltage of the battery is determined for satisfying the minimum operational voltage of the CDE load.
