In-place curing box for specimens is used to cure the compressive strength specimens for control in place concrete. The box if composed of insulating chamber maintaining 20$\pm$3$^{\circ}C$ of temperature, in this paper, strength and temperature history of specimens cured at in plate curing box are investigated to verify field applicability. According to test results, air temperature at measured time shows large temperature variation and below zero, whereas, inside temperature of in place curing box maintains within 20$\pm$3$^{\circ}C$ due to temperature control function. For curing condition. temperature of specimens cured at outside shows large temperature deviation. specimens lured at in-place curing box is not affected by outer temperature.
When building with concrete in cold weather, an insulation method of heat curing must be determined, and a holistic curing plan that considers the characteristics of structures, the heat loss coefficient of a curing sheet, the joint condition of the curing materials and the quantity of heat produced by a heating apparatus is an essential prerequisite for protection against early frost damage. But on a number of national construction sites, there have been serious problems in cold weather concreting due to the unreliability of the information obtained from practical experience. In the construction field in Japan, there is a specification for heat curing prepared by Japanese Architectural Society, which provides an equation for calculating heat quantity. It is also necessary to adopt a detailed specification for a standard heat curing method that is applicable to all national construction sites. In this study, the effect of bubble sheets on the economic feasibility of cold weather concrete is investigated through a comparison with the blue sheets commonly prescribed in national construction sites. In conclusion, this study found that bubble sheets had the effect of reducing the cost of curing materials and the fuel cost consumed by a heating apparatus, compared to the use of blue sheets.
The indirect tensile strengths (ITSs) of different cemented paste backfill mixes with different curing times were determined by considering crack initiation and fracture toughness concepts under different loading conditions of steel loading arcs with various contact angles, flat platens and the standard Brazilian test jaw. Because contact area of the ITS test discs developes rapidly and varies in accordance with the deformability, ITSs of curing materials were not found convenient to determine under the loading apparatus with indefinite contact angle. ITS values increasing with an increase in contact angle can be measured to be excessively high because of the high contact angles resulted from the deformable characteristics of the soft paste backfill materials. As a result of the change of deformation characteristics with the change of curing time, discs have different contact conditions causing an important disadvantage to reflect the strength change due to the curing reactions. In addition to the experimental study, finite element analyses were performed on several types of disc models under various loading conditions. As a result, a comparison between all loading conditions was made to determine the best ITSs of the cemented paste backfill materials. Both experimental and numerical analyses concluded that loading arcs with definite contact angles gives better results than those obtained with the other loading apparatus without a definite contact angle. Loading arcs with the contact angle of $15^{\circ}$ was found the most convenient loading apparatus for the typical cemented paste backfill materials, although it should be used carefully considering the failure cracks for a valid test.
A new composite manufacturing technique which combines winding and curing together is studied and analyzed. This method is especially suited to the manufacture of thick composite materials in which thermal spiking is a common problem. An experimental apparatus was designed and built for use with a filament winder to continuously cure a thick composite cylinder. A hoop-wound composite cylinder with 152 mm wall thickness was manufactured and embedded thermocouples and strain gages were monitored throughout the cure process. The experimental data were compared with analytical results.
The essential oils from Burley 21 tobacco was isolated by using the SDE (Simultaneous Distillation & Extraction) apparatus coupled with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis. Burley 21 tobaccos were divided and collected by six stages at intervals of five days during air-curing process. Air curing was conducted with horizontal hanging method in greenhouse settled by shading materials. 55 components were identified by comparisons of retention indices and mass spectral data, including 22 hydrocarbons, 6 alcohols, 3 aldehydes, 9 ketones and 15 miscellaneous compounds. Neophytadiene was the major components of the oils and almost all hydrocarbons were gradually decreased during air-curing process. Most of alcohols were also diminished, on the contrary, 1-pentanol and benzyl alcohol among them were increased. Aldehydes and ketones were increased during air-curing and especially, the concentrations of solanone, $\beta$-damascone, $\beta$-damascenone and megastigmatrienones were much increased. Indole level of miscellaneous compounds were continuously increased during air-curing of Burley 21 tobacco.
Vinyl ester (VE) resins, introduced in the late 1960s, have made large strides in reinforced plastics applications as adhesive and matrix materials on their appropriate mechanical performance characteristics in the glassy state. Generally, VE resins are a group of dimethacrylate resins based on bisphenol A type epoxy resin. They exhibit easy handling properties as well as good resistance to most chemical agents due to their mechanical and thermal properties. In this study, the effects of curing methods of vinyl ester resins on gel contents, flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties were investigated. Thermal curing (room temperature, $80^{\circ}C$) and electron beam curing were used to crosslink a VE resin/styrene complex (65/35 wt%) with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKPO) as a catalyst and an 8 wt% cobalt naphthenate in styrene solution as a accelerator. For the samples, gel contents as well as flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties were characterized and compared by soxhlet apparatus, universal testing machine (UTM) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). As a result, the electron-cured VE resin was confirmed as a better condition than those for gel contents, flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties, respectively.
A research on scaffold fabrication has been progressed in many research groups. However, the mechanical properties of existing biodegradable materials are still not satisfactory. But, PPF (poly (propylene fumarate)) has a good mechanical property in comparison to other biodegradable materials. Nevertheless, the viscosity of the synthesized PPF is too high to fabricate structures using micro-stereolithography. Therefore, the viscosity of the resin was made low by adding the diethyl fumarate and this material could be used in micro-stereolithography apparatus. Then, a photoinitiator was added for photo crosslinking of the DEF/PPF resin. 2.5D and 3D scaffolds were fabricated our system and curing characteristics of the resin were analyzed through the experiment.
Microstereolithography(MSL) has evolved from the stereolithography technique, and is also based on a light-induced layer-stacking fabrication. Although integral MSL allows the manufacture of a complete layer by one irradiation only, there is a problem related with shape precision due to the light-intensity distribution of focused image. In this study, we developed the integral MSL apparatus using Digital Micromirror Device ($DMD^{TM})$, Texas Instruments) as dynamic pattern generator. It is composed of Xenon-Mecury lamp, optical devices, pattern generator, precision stage, controllers and the control program. Also, we have studied curing depth and width of photocurable resin according to the change of exposure energy.
Flexible forming technology has advantages in sheet metal forming, because it can be implemented to produce various shaped molds using a single apparatus. Due to this advantage, it is possible to apply it to the manufacture of an aircraft winglet mold. Presently, most aircraft winglets are manufactured from composite materials. Therefore, the mold for the curing process is an essential element in the fabrication of such composite materials. Compared to conventional mold forming, flexible forming has some advantages such as reduced manufacturing cost and uniformity of mold thickness. If the thickness of the mold is consistent, then the heat transfer will occur uniformly during the curing process leading to improved formability of the composite material. In the current study, numerical simulations were performed to investigate the possibility of flexible forming for manufacturing of the winglet mold. In order to match the size of the actual product, the shape of objective surface was divided to fit the dimensions of the apparatus. The results from the numerical simulations are compared with the objective surface to verify the accuracy. In conclusion, the current study confirms the feasibility and the potential to manufacture winglet molds by flexible forming.
Microstereolithography has evolved from the stereolithography technique, and is also based on a light-induced layer-stacking manufacturing. Integral microstereolithography is proposed for building a 3D microstructure rapidly, which allows the manufacture of a complete layer by one irradiation only. In this study, we developed the integral microstereolithography apparatus based on the use of $DMD^{TM}$ as dynamic pattern generator. It is composed of Xenon-Mercury lamp, optical devices, pattern generator, precision stage, controllers and the control program. Also, we estimated curing characteristics in photopolymer. The relationship between the viscosity of diluent-oligomer solutions and curing width, irradiation time and curing property has been studied.
