A patient diagnosed with DDH had been treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, cupping therapy and chuna manual therapy for 8 weeks. The patient was evaluated by using range of motion (ROM) of hip joint, muscle strength of lower extremity, leg length, numeric rating scale (NRS) and Korean version of hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score (K-HOOS). After the treatment, the patient had an improvement in the symptoms, pain, and activities of daily living of K-HOOS, especially the quality of life. In addition, NRS decreased from 7 to 4 points, and ROM and muscle strength also improved. • Dural ectasia is defined as ballooning or expansion of the dural sac surrounding the spinal cord. This report describes a rare case of low back pain and sciatica, suspected as being dural ectasia. The patient was hospitalized for 45 days, and underwent integrative Korean medical treatment, including pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, herbal medicine, Chuna therapy, cupping therapy, and physiotherapy. The effect of the treatment was evaluated using the numerical rating scale, Oswestry disability index, European quality of life 5 dimensions, and subjective symptoms. After inpatient treatment, the pain the patient experienced was significantly reduced and the evaluation indices improved. This case report suggested that integrative Korean medical treatment could be an effective therapeutic choice for low back pain and sciatica, with dural ectasia. Further clinical studies are needed to support this observation.

  • Postherpetic neuralgia(PHN) is one of the most common intractable chronic pain syndromes. This review was conducted to investigates the trends in recent clinical studies of PHN in China and to find out the efficacy of Chinese medicine treatment for PHN. Based on CNKI databases, nineteen randomized controlled trials(RCTs) were analyzed. The search focused on the authors, publication year, sample size, age, duration of illness, treatment period, lesion sites, methods, outcome measures, and results of the selected articles. Four studies used herbal medicine. The most frequently used herbs were Angelicae Gigantis Radix(當歸) and Corydalis Tube(玄胡索). Eighteen studies used acupuncture treatment. The most frequently used acupoints were ST36, LR3, LI4. Three studies used moxibustion and 5 studies used cupping treatment. In all nineteen studies, the efficacy of Chinese medicine treatments was confirmed. More varied and scientifically designed clinical studies are required to develop treatments for PHN. The results of current study could be used as guidance for further studies of treatment on PHN.

  • This study presents the cases of a 67-year-old female with an isolated left sacral fracture and a 69-year-old female with fractures in sacrum 1, 2, and the left pubic bone. Both patients exhibited marked improvement following integrative Korean medicine treatment, encompassing acupuncture, acupotomy, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, and cupping therapy. The treatment's efficacy was assessed using the numerical rating scale (NRS) scores, range of motion (ROM) in the lumbar spine, and alterations in gait and walking distance. Case 1 demonstrated an enhanced ROM and achieved independent walking after 29 days of treatment. Case 2 improved in both ROM and NRS score and could walk independently after 49 days of treatment. Significantly, radiological images showed notable changes in both cases following treatments. The study indicates that integrative Korean medicine treatment could provide clinical advantages to individuals suffering from sacral fractures.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment on postherpetic neuralgia. Methods : Domestic databases(OASIS, KISS, RISS, KISTI, NDSL, KMbase) were used to search case studies related to Korean medical treatment of postherpetic neuralgia. Total 9 studies were selected. Results : A total 15 prescriptions were used 22 times in 14 cases. Among them, Sipjeondaebo-tang(十全大補湯) was the most frequently prescribed. Total 91 herbs were used and they were classified as tonifying and replenishing medicine(補益藥), exterior-releasing medicine(解表藥) and blood-activating and stasis-dispelling medicine(活血祛瘀藥) in the order of mostly used. In 8 studies, in addition to herbal medicine treatment, other Korean medicine treatments such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibusiton, cupping therapy and external agents were performed at the same time. Most frequently used acupoints were 足竅陰(GB44) and 商陽(LI1). Conclusions : This is the first study to analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment for postherpetic neuralgia. Although there are some limitations, this study is thought to be helpful in the domestic treatment of postherpetic neuralgia in the future.
