  • This article examines celeactor as cultural contents focused on the multi-persona in a South Korean reality show program . The celeactor is a form of celebrity and part of a celetoid. Celebrity can be categorized by three forms: ascribed form, achieved form and attributed form. In attributed form, the celetoid suddenly becomes popular through the media. The celeactor is a subcategory of the celetoid. The celeactor is defined by a virtual character that exist in temporary or institutionalized traits of popular culture. The Korean celebrity culture presents Korean intellectual factors, spiritual aspects, tastes, moral virtue, power relationships and traditional hierarchy. In order to examine the features of the Korean celeactor in cultural contents, this article focuses on the multi-persona of celebrity in South Korean popular culture through fantasy, challenge and nostalgia. This article examines the multi-persona of celebrity represented in South Korean popular culture as a negotiated response to cultural identity deconstructed and reconstructed in performance. The research methodology is to analyze a South Korean television reality show program on MBC Hangout with Yoo that represents various sub-characters performed by Jae-suk Yoo, a South Korean comedian and host. As for theoretical underpinning, this exploration joins work on Erving Goffman's (1959) notion of self-presentation and Chris Rojek's (2001) celebrity studies.

  • The Multi-cultural Family Support Center provides various educational programs and services for multi-cultural families. However, there are controversies regarding integration and assimilation, ethnic identity and ethnocentrism, and state-sponsored multi-culturalism. From the home economist's perspective, it was necessary to explore the direction of integration of family life culture in the multi-cultural society. This study concluded that there is a necessity to accept foreign culture and create a new culture while still maintaining their and our own cultural identity respectively. For this purpose, integration and assimilation must progress side by side to maintain the cultural identity and stability of multi-cultural families. But, women migrants are to adapt in their everyday life, they need to attend a Korean-language course and take part in a traditional Korean culture program such as having an assimilational characteristics. Also for the happiness of multi-cultural families ultimately not for the confronted problems, it requires sometimes education of changing migrants' own traditional customs and life culture partly. In this sense, educational and cultural programs held by Multi-Cultural Family Support Center are meaningful and their importance in adapting into everyday life must be recognised by all of us.

  • Eco-friendly and sustainable seaweed biomass energy have been under the spotlight as the future of renewable energy. However, seaweed culture is primarily conducted inshore, with the research on offshore culture still in an early stage. For massive biomass production, a systematic engineering approach is required to devise offshore seaweed culture facilities rather than the conventional empirical ones. To establish the fundamental behavior of seaweed culture facilities, the dynamic characteristics of a seaweed culture facility were analyzed in the study. For this purpose, numerical analyses of the seaweed culture facility (a frame type) were carried out by using the hydrodynamic simulation program ANSYS-AQWA. For the analysis, environmental loads were considered using the wave spectra and co-linear current; mooring variables were selected as parameters; and time domain analyses were carried out to acquire the time series responses and eventually the dynamic characteristics. Finally, the mooring performance was evaluated. It was found that the motion could be controlled by adjusting the buoyancy and mooring slope.

  • Effects of pH shock on the secretion system of S. coelicolor A3(2) have been investigated at a transcriptional level by using DNA microarrays. Actinorhodin secretion was observed to be highly enhanced when an acidic-pH shock was applied to surface grown cultures of S. coelicolor A3(2). In this culture, a gene of actVA-orf1 encoding a putative efflux pump or transporter protein for actinorhodin was strongly upregulated. A major number of efflux pumps for other metabolites and a major number of secretion proteins for protein secretion were also observed to be upregulated with pH shock. The secretion of actinorhodin was observed to be remarkably enhanced in liquid culture as well.
