The purposes of this study are to examine the concept of customized fashion product design as a new industrial paradigm reflecting individual customers' needs in modern society, and to grasp its sociocultural meaning. It is thought that this study will be helpful to investigate the cultural thinking of contemporaries represented through the consumption. For this, the documentary study and practical case study have been executed. As modern fashion business becomes more consumer-oriented due to the industrial paradigm shift, there appeared the prosumer as both consumer and producer. The type of customized fashion product design can be classified as 1) the traditional custom-made design in haute couture and classic tailoring 2) the tailor-made design in the prestige line of ready to wear 3) DIY custom design 4) mass customized design of customer involvement. The traditional custom-made design in haute couture and classic tailoring and the tailor-made design in the prestige line of ready to wear is to provide the distinguished product which has the best quality as well as the excellent beauty for VIP consumer. The DIY custom design is for creative consumer searching for the fun of craftsmanship to take part in producing personally. The mass customized design of customer involvement is to personalize product by selecting design module in mass production. Ultimately the sociocultural meaning of the customized fashion product design can be interpreted as (1)endowing special meaning to personal identity (2)distinguishing the privilege by rarefied authenticity (3)returning to analog sensibility 4)pursuing creative fun 5)thinking in a user-centered way.
The purpose of this study is to understand the social and cultural implication of the activities of taking 'selfies' and the use of Social Network Service(SNS)s through the personal story of a 20s female researcher. She analyzes her own digital photography activities based on the experience of the use of Cyworld photo albums for three years and the use of pictures in iPhone album for fifteen months. The other researcher(40s male) cooperates to answer the questions about how to understand the digital photography activities. We understand the digital photography activities including digital cameras, social network services and smart phones as acts of personal identity configuration and acts of making the personal documentary. As a result, digital photos are used more for archive purpose rather than for document purpose. Also, we found that the digital photography activities can be understood as the interactions between human and non-human actors in the perspective of Actor-Network Theory (ANT).
This study problematizes the youth‘s politico-cultural process of identification as becoming in the context of candle demonstration in Seoul, 2008. We examine their ethical subjectivity, communicative subjectivity and political subjectivity based on our analysis of depth interviews of teenage activists in the candle demonstrations. It is suggested that instead of naming the teens as the historical consequence of so-called 386 generation, or social product in the neo-liberal economic and educational conditions, we need to understand the complexities and dynamics of the youth’s practice of identity politics: subjective pain and anxiety in daily life, creation and sharing of pleasure and fun of peer group comunication are mixed into the pursuit of justice in their social activation of generation/gender politics.
What is the relationship between the power of mask and the popularity of 'Umakdaejang(which means a band master in Korean)' who was one of the mask-singers in King of Masksinger? And which aspects of the contemporary Korean society were projected to this fever of Umakdaejang? This study has made efforts to answer these questions. To do this, it has examined the episodes that Umakdaejang appeared in the TV program King of Masksinger, has dealt with the origin and purpose of mask, and with the cultural meaning of the mask's concealing and revealing identity in order to understand the power of mask. Findings are as follows. Umakdaejang amplified the curiosity of his identity by displaying anonymous typicality with the mask. He also showed the resistant gestures against the forms and manners of the existing TV music programs through the way of somewhat tough, uncontrolled, and mischievous behaviors. By doing so, he exposed the desire of self-revelation. As a result, by means of its anonymity and resistance, the mask functioned as an effective apparatus being able to resist against the class polarization of the capitalist ideology. This can be viewed as the origin of the fever of Umakdaejang as well as the very power of mask itself.

This landscape design proposal was presented to a design competition for the KangWon Province Police Agency(KPA). The site, about 27,711 $m^2$, is located at 293-4 Udu-dong, Chunchun, KangWon-Do. Design objectives of the KPA were to build a symbolic place which fall community members with pride, to elevate an identity and status of the KPA by creating a landscape correspondent to the concept of the building design, to provide community residents with a space to enjoy cultural and social activities, and to make environment friendly space. The main concept was developed by one of characteristics of the traditional spatial structure of Korea known as an, 'Open and Closed spatial structure.'By re-interpreting the traditional spatial structure and applying it to the site, the design met the various desires of the KPA. The site is primarily segmented into 6 sub spaces; entrance space Podori plaza, symbolic court, police billeting area, sports area, and rear rest area. The entrance space, Podori plaza, and symbolic court on the south-west part of the site represent the publicity of the site as the concept of ″open space.″ On the contrary, considering the specialty of police affairs, the north-east part of the site, which contains the police billeting area and rest area, were designed to maintain security by using the concept of ″closed space.″ To express an identity of the KPA, 'Podori', a police mascot, the plaza was designed and is suppose to function as the hub of the community. In the front section of the plaza, a symmetrical planting pattern, centering the strong axis, was introduced to strengthen its symbolic meaning. Traditional window frames such as the pattern of 'Pisal-jige'and 'Umulsal-jige' were used for the paving system which is applied as the environment friendly design. Site facilities and furnitrue were placed at every important spot in order to connect various spaces organically. As these well-tied spaces properly shared their function, spatial sequence and management would be promoted. The entire space was designed to allow free access of handicapped people. This proposal is meant to create a new image of KangWon province and to enhance the way of inhabitants' think about their community.
This research examines individual attitudes toward immigration and the determinants of these attitudes in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Using 2003 National Identity module from ISSP data, descriptive statistics showed that Taiwan seems to be the most opposed to immigration, Japan in the middle, and Korea the least opposed. Despite being the least opposed to immigration, Koreans agreed most strongly with having a homogeneous sense of ethnic identity. In addition, Korean respondents saw immigrants are being good for the national economy, but not for cultural diversity. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that age is negatively associated with the individual's attitude toward immigrants in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Effects of educational attainment is only significant in Taiwan. Manual worker and others, and those who work in farming, mining, and fishing tend to have negative attitudes toward increases in number of immigrants. Also, individual's values toward immigrants/immigration are related to the individual's attitude toward increases in number of immigrants in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
This research was designed to explore the meaning of housing among Korean Chinese in Harbin, China. In particular, the meaning of housing was examined by using the pathway approach. Utilizing qualitative research methods, this study administered the in-depth interview on the oral history of an individual life, and the 5 elderly persons in their 60s and 70s participated in the individualized interviews that were conducted from May 28 to 31 in 2010. The main findings of meaning of housing were as follows; 1. Similarly to the meaning of housing in 1970s and 1980s in Korea, house was viewed as both a shelter for family members and relatives and a place for their comfort. 2. Prior to multi-story residences, Harbin had only 3 different forms of single-story houses available; Chinese style with Kang and soil room(地室), Korean style with 'Ondol', and Russian style with open floor and Pechka, The promotion at work enabled participants to move to multi-story residences, their moving time varied from 1970 to 1991, and the residential moving determined their current housing status. 3. Multi-story residences were available around 1970s, floor-heating system was introduced from 1990s, and high-rise apartments were built from 1998. Korean Chinese(朝鮮族) weren't satisfied with the spatial composition of individual units embedded into the Chinese culture, especially, entrance, kitchen, bathroom and veranda. 4. Based on assimilation through socialism, adaptation to socialist society and capitalist acculturation, the lifestyles of the interviewees were categorized into five types - capitalist-proactive(Ms. KS), socialist-pragmatic(Ms. J), socialist-inducive(Ms. KY), family centered-conservative(Ms. L), and socialist-adaptive(Ms. P). This study implies that housing-related services for Korean Chinese are necessarily provided so as to embrace their life style and cultural identity in housing design, and further studies need to be explored.

This study aims to understand history and adaptive strategies of Bitgoul iCOOP Consumer's Coopertive Association(BCCA). BCCA have twofold identity as civil society organization and economic management organization. Going through several ups and downs from the founding up to now date, BCCA has adapted successfully. The numbers of association member have steadily increased and activity areas have extended consistently. Moreover united activity with local civil society have expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively. These success results from store business which stated from 2008. But maintaining successful management conditions, the numbers of association member should increase steadily and staff organization have grown in size. At the results, BCAA have been bureaucratized and recruitment of core staffs is difficult more and more.

Urban landscape represents a city's internal identity as well as external form. Therefore, urban landscape and image planning has to involve marketing strategies to deliver the economic growth and regional revitalization through recreating the environmental and cultural value of the city. This study intends to develop practical city image management programs as city marketing tools which consider opinions of local authorities, related experts, and residents. To achieve this purpose conjoint analysis was applied on three components which symbolically reflects features of assets and resources in Anseong. This study can be summarized as follows: 1. The first consideration for Lake Geumgwang is to develop farm experience Programs on waterside fields. 2. The rot consideration for Bauduki Festival is to make efforts for public relations(PR) to be able to merchandise festival-related goods and develop unique products. 3. The first consideration for Anseong Grapes is to build leisure-oriented theme parks for local farm products. This study is meaningful to develop the efficient and quantitative management method of city image for marketing. The integrated approach to the management programs to reflect opinions of local policies, experts and citizens is expected to become a useful foundation in studying city images and marketing.
We have witnessed several kinds of new discourses and practices in health and medicine since the 1970s, such as popular concerns with alternative or complementary medicine, inordinate attention to the promotion of 'healthy' living, rapid resurrection of traditional medicine and ecological management of health. Four structural and situational factors are discussed to underlie these new trends:(i) as 'crisis' in health care of the 1970s was translated into health care reform of the 1980s backed up by neo-liberal political philosophy, the state responsibility for nation's health is being transferred to the individual ;(ii) it resulted from the limits of biomedical paradigm in dealing with chronic diseases;(iii) medico-scientific knowledge of disease is transformed into the subjective discourses and technologies of health in postmodern society ; and (iv) it is deeply associated with the considerable increase in environmental risk perception of health and disease. There are some inherent countervailing forces in these new discourses and practices. First, while they derive from lifestyle-oriented behavioral change, medicalization of life and death is still consolidated in the new trends. Second, inasmuch as new tides are reliant upon science, they. are likely to be remote from techne that means not the practical application of theoretical knowing but a special form of practical knowing. Third, as new discourses and activities accomplished'in the name of health'increasingly occupy important strategies in forming the self-identity, they serve as moral apparatus which involves prescriptions about how we should live our lives and conduct our bodies, both individually and collectively. Therefore, two points are suggested to consider seriously whether these streams will succeed in improving the‘healthy’living of all the people. Instead of limiting tile perspective to medicine, healing and health care, a new matrix that interweave welfare, ecology and labor along with them is timely needed for enhancing the health for all. In addition, as the World Health Report fm strongly shows, inequality in health heavily depends upon socio-economic development of a society, and it is not the richest countries that have the best health status, but those that have the smallest income differences between rich and poor.
