Unlike traditional cultural assets, industrial assets are closely tied with contemporary life in numerous ways, and have acted as a bridge between the traditional architectural buildings and contemporary architectural buildings, reflecting the overall economical, social and cultural portraits of that time. Reinvestigating them in a new light, granting just and fair values, and preserving and transmitting these modern cultural heritages is a method of preserving the historical and cultural traditions in order to keep own identity and integrity. Nowadays, however, due to various sprawling developments and new development-oriented urban policies, only a select few industrial assets are being protected, the rest facing demolition and damages. In order to better cope with such situation, Korea has officially introduced the Registered Cultural Properties System since 2001, and began acknowledging the historical values of industrial buildings as modern cultural properties. By systematic analysis and deduction of characteristics from successfully recycled precedents such Oberhausen Gasometer in the state of Nordhein-Westfalen that have been preserved and recycled as cultural spaces, this paper aims to find and propose suggestions to rehabilitate and recycle the industrial cultural properties in Korea.

This work is for redefining of cultural diversity and suggesting measurement frame by casting light on changing cultural environment according to evolution of digital convergence media. So far, most of studies tend to confuse at using media diversity and cultural diversity and resultingly the concept of cultural diversity is not founded right yet. In communications field, there is a limit to measure cultural diversity which is substantive content because analysis of media diversity is mainly focused on financial measuring and quantitation. Therefore we define digital convergence media culture as metaculture here for analysis of cultural diversity. Additionally, we catagorize and analysis cultural diversity based on this metaculture into pluralism of media activity, diversity of cultural expression, diversity of cultural diffusion and diversity of cultural cognition. These measuration variables of the four categories are factors which can lighten aspects of cultural diversity in digital convergence media environment. Analysis of these factors of the four catagories will suggest a criterion to establish policies to protect cultural diversity. The policy of cultural diversity is to construct a cultural commune in envirnment of meta culture.

This study was to propose the spatial analysis method of extracting the spectral characteristic of cultural grounds of lavers in marine especially ApHae-myeon, ShinAn-gun, JellaNam-do, through using various satellite images. In addition, the information of cultural grounds of laver such as the existence of illegal cultural grounds of laver distribution was extracted through using satellite images and GIS analysis methods. For the further work, the spatial analysis to extract not only cultural grounds of laver business but also artificial facilities in marine will be proposed.

This study aimed to provide basic data for the development of local cultural festivals by verifying whether regional cultural unity moderates the link between storytelling and brand assets for festival visitors. The survey was conducted with 431 visitors who participated in the S city Eupseong Festival program. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and moderating effect analysis were performed for the analysis of the questionnaire data. As a result of the study, first, storytelling and regional cultural unity showed the highest positive correlation, and there were positive correlations between local cultural unity and brand assets, and between storytelling and brand assets. Second, as a result of the moderating effect analysis, regional cultural unity moderated the link between storytelling and brand assets. In other words, when storytelling increases, brand assets increase, but when regional cultural unity is high, it increases more steeply than when regional cultural unity is low. This study presented a new model to improve the brand assets of local festivals.

This study aims to examine the effect of tourists' participative motivation of a festival on satisfaction and behavior intention in terms of satisfaction, revisit intention, and recommendation based on Baekjae Cultural Festival. For this study, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis were made. The survey was conducted among 287 samples for the study. The results are as follows: According to the factor analysis, five factors were drawn such as new experience, deviation from daily life, family harmony, amusement & novelty, cultural tour of Baekjae, and sociability. Festival satisfaction was affected by amusement & novelty, new experience & deviation from daily life, and cultural tour of Baekjae, while revisit intention was influenced by cultural tour of Baekjae, amusement & novelty, family harmony, and new experience & deviation from daily life respectively. On the other hand, recommendation was affected by cultural tour of Baekjae, sociability, amusement & novelty, and family harmony respectively.

The aim of this study is to understand how English textbooks in Korea and Japan reflect English education policies for improving the English language learners' cultural ability. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the method of analyzing English textbooks was used because English textbooks are an important tool that most specifically reflects the English policy of a country. This study analyzed a total of six English textbooks, three middle school English textbooks currently used in Korea and three in Japan. We analyzed nouns/pronouns related to culture presented in the reading section included in each unit, and compared cultural diversity and cultural identity included in English textbooks in Korea and Japan. As a result, it was found that both countries experienced cultural diversity through English education and introduced their cultural pride to Western culture to realize the goal of strengthening global capabilities. This textbook analysis results show that English textbooks of Korea and Japan depend on American/British cultures and norms. The cultural contents of English textbooks in Korea and Japan tend to focus on geography, food and drink, festivals and activities, family and education systems, etc. And English textbooks in Korea and Japan include the cultural sections in each lesson, but they don't suggest how to relate these cultural sections into the learners' real experiences. These results can be utilized as the motives from which both countries develop English education policy and textbooks in the future.

This study was considered utilization of hyperspectral image analysis for monitoring. Accordingly we applied to stone cultural properties to data correction methods, image classification techniques, NDVI computation techniques using hyperspectral image. As the results, hyperspectral image analysis was possible making detailed deterioration map, accurate calculation of deterioration rate, mapping of normalized difference vegetation index on the basis of reflectance of each materials. Therefore, hyperspectral image analysis will be used for effective monitoring techniques of stone cultural heritages.

In this study, analysis of the cultural effects on design expressions and comparative analysis of designers' cultural background on their expression methods were implemented. The purpose of this study is to help the professionals and learners who pursue towards cultural designs in the design field utilize this research work as reference data and academic materials, and to contribute to the development of designs in the Eastern cultures. The author compared the differences between the viewpoints depending on background, either the Eastern or the Western culture, based on the existing studies and literatures, and analyzed the relationship between the viewpoints and expressions. Also, analyses of the expression methods related with cultural viewpoints and design viewpoints were conducted, especially with analysis of works of Uchida Shigeru from the East and Berner Panton from the West. Although both of their works were produced contemporarily and expressed with similar techniques, each of the conceptual approaches to their works represents different characteristics of the cultural viewpoint. Such a finding suggests that the approach to the design process should take place in a different way based on its cultural background, and it is accordingly required to seek for a new method for cultural design process.

Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the cultural competence of nurses caring for foreign patients in general hospitals. Methods: The subjects are 308 nurses who work in general hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The data, collected using a structured questionnaire on cultural competence, coping strategy, multicultural experience, intercultural uncertainty, and intercultural anxiety, were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Cultural competence was significantly associated with marital status, level of education, type of ward, and number of cared foreign patients. In hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the level of cultural competence was significantly associated with married, master degree qualified, high level of coping strategy and multicultural experience, and low level of cultural uncertainty. Conclusion: The findings revealed the need for educational programs which can contribute to lower the intercultural uncertainty and to enhance coping strategies dealing with foreign patients. In addition, individual and organization efforts to provide opportunities to expand nurses' multicultural experience will affect nurses' cultural competence development.

The totality of language learning comprises three integrated components: linguistic, cultural, and attitudinal (Wilkes, 1983).Positively sensitizing students to cultural phenomena is urgent and crucial. A positive attitude toward L2 culture is a factor in language learning that leads to cross cultural understanding. This research examined, through a survey analysis, how three groups of students (one high school group and two university student groups) viewed the role of their foreign culture (i.e., American and British cultures) in achieving cultural understanding. The focus was upon how EFL learners approach the target language culture as well as their own culture.
