  • The numerical procedure has been developed for simulating incompressible viscous flow around a turbine stage with rotor-stator interaction. This study solves 2-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on a non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system. The Marker-and-Cell concept is applied to efficiently solve continuity equation. To impose an accurate boundary condition, O-H multiblocked grid system is generated. O-type grid and H-type grid is generated near and outer rotor-stator The cubic-spline interpolation is applied to handle a relative motion of a rotor to the stator. Turbulent flows have been modeled by the Baldwin- Lomax turbulent model. To validate present procedure, the time averaged pressure coefficients around the rotor and stator are compared with experiment and a good agreement obtained.

  • The flow in the turbomachinery is very unsteady due to the stator-rotor interaction. It has been indicated that the stator-rotor interaction has three distinct causes of unsteadiness: that is, the viscous vortex shedding, wake rotor interaction and potential stator-rotor interaction. In this paper, the mechanism of unsteady potential interaction and wake interaction in the stator-rotor stage flow is numerically investigated in two-dimensional view point. The numerical technique used is the upwind scheme of Van Leer's Flux Vector Splitting(FVS) and cubic spline interpolation is applied on zonal interface. Then, the flow field of a compressor stage composed of NACA 65410 is analyzed. Flow fields are found to be simulated reasonably by this method and the sensitivity due to back-pressure variation is more stronger than rotor-velocity variation.

  • It has been indicated that the rotor/stator interaction has distinct causes of unsteadiness, such as the viscous vortex shedding, wake/stator interaction and potential rotor/stator interaction. In this paper, the mechanism of unsteady potential interaction in one stage axial compressor is numerically investigated for blade row ratio 1:1 and 2:3 at design point and for blade row ratio 2:3 at off-design point in two-dimensional view point. The numerical technique used is the upwind scheme of Van-Leer's Flux Vector Splitting(FVS) and Cubic spline interpolation is applied on zonal interface. In this study the flow unsteadiness due to potential interaction are found to be larger in blade row ratio 2:3 than in 1:1. The total pressure rise in blade row ratio 2:3 is closer to the real value in design point than that in 1:1. The change of unsteady pressure amplitude according to the variation of stator exit pressure is very small.

  • The present work solved 3D incompressible RANS equations on a rotating, multi-blocked grid system to efficiently analyze ducted marine propulsor with the interaction of propeller guidevane and annular duct. To handle the interface boundary between the guidevane and the propeller, a sliding multiblock technique based on the cubic spline interpolation was applied. To validate the present code, a turbine flow was simulated and the time-averaged pressure coefficients were compared with experiment. After the code validation, the flowfield around a ducted marine propeller with pre-swirl guidevane was simulated.

  • Free vibration of layered conical shell frusta of thickness filled with fluid is investigated. The shell is made up of isotropic or specially orthotropic materials. Three types of thickness variations are considered, namely linear, exponential and sinusoidal along the radial direction of the conical shell structure. The equations of motion of the conical shell frusta are formulated using Love's first approximation theory along with the fluid interaction. Velocity potential and Bernoulli's equations have been applied for the expression of the pressure of the fluid. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, inviscid and quiescent. The governing equations are modified by applying the separable form to the displacement functions and then it is obtained a system of coupled differential equations in terms of displacement functions. The displacement functions are approximated by cubic and quintics splines along with the boundary conditions to get generalized eigenvalue problem. The generalized eigenvalue problem is solved numerically for frequency parameters and then associated eigenvectors are calculated which are spline coefficients. The vibration of the shells with the effect of fluid is analyzed for finding the frequency parameters against the cone angle, length ratio, relative layer thickness, number of layers, stacking sequence, boundary conditions, linear, exponential and sinusoidal thickness variations and then results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.

  • In this paper, the mechanism of unsteady potential interaction and wake interaction in one stage axial turbine is numerically investigated at design point in two-dimensional viewpoint. The numerical technique used is the upwind scheme of Van-Leer's Flux Vector Splitting (FVS) and Cubic spline interpolation is applied on zonal interface between stator and rotor. The inviscid analysis is used to embody the influence of potential interaction only and viscous analysis is used to embody the influences of both potential interaction and wake interaction at the same time. The potential-flow disturbance from the stator into a rotor passage and the periodic blockage effect of rotor produce the unsteady pressure on the blade surface in inviscid analysis. After the wake is cut by rotor, two counterrotating votical patterns flanking the wake centerline in the passage are generated. So, these phenomena magnify the unsteady pressure in viscous analysis than that in inviscid analysis. The resulting unsteady forces on the rotor, generated by the combined interaction of the two effects by potential and wake interaction, are discussed.

  • Since the previous cut-and-try design algorithm require much cost and time, it has recently been concerned the automatic design technique using the CFD and optimum design algorithm. In this study, the Navier-Stokes equations is solved to consider the more detail viscous flow informations of cascade interaction and O-H multiblock grid system is generated to impose an accurate boundary condition. The cubic-spline interpolation is applied to handle a relative motion of a rotor to the stator. To validate present procedure, the time averaged aerodynamic loads are compared with experiment and good agreement obtained. Once the N-S equations have been solved, the computed aerodynamic loads may be used to computed the sensitivities of the aerodynamic objective function. • Background: Total fat intake may be associated with increased risk of breast cancer, and fish oil has been suggested as a protection factor to breast cancer. But the effect of vegetable oils is inconclusive. We aimed to investigate the association with high vegetable oils consumption and breast cancer risk, and evaluated their dose-response relationship. Design: We systematically searched the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane databases, and CNKI updated to December 2014, and identified all observational studies providing quantitative estimates between breast cancer risk and different vegetable oils consumption. Fixed or random effect models were used to estimate summary odds ratios for the highest vs. lowest intake, and dose-response relationship was assessed by restricted cubic spline model and generalized least-squares trend (GLST) model. Results: Five prospective cohort studies and 11 retrospective case-control studies, involving 11,161 breast cancer events from more than 150,000 females, met the inclusion criteria. Compared with the lowest vegetable oils consumption, higher intake didn't increased the risk of breast cancer with pooled OR of 0.88 (95% CIs:0.77-1.01), and the result from dose-response analyses didn't show a significant positive or negative trend on the breast cancer risk for each 10g vegetable oil/day increment (OR=0.98, 95% CIs: 0.95-1.01). In the subgroup analyses, the oils might impact on females with different strata of BMI. Higher olive oil intake showed a protective effect against breast cancer with OR of 0.74 (95% CIs: 0.60-0.92), which was not significant among the three cohort studies. Conclusions: This meta-analyses suggested that higher intake of vegetable oils is not associated with the higher risk of breast cancer. Olive oil might be a protective factor for the cancer occurrence among case-control studies and from the whole. Recall bias and imbalance in study location and vegetable oils subtypes shouldn't be ignored. More prospective cohort studies are required to confirm the interaction of the impact of vegetable oils on different population and various cancer characteristic, and further investigate the relationship between different subtype oils and breast cancer.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the potential interaction between kidney function and the non-linear association between serum calcium levels and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. Methods: This study included 8927 participants enrolled in the Dong-gu Study. Albumin-corrected calcium levels were used and categorized into 6 percentile categories: <2.5th, 2.5-25.0th, 25.0-50.0th, 50.0-75.0th, 75.0-97.5th, and >97.5th. Restricted cubic spline analysis was used to examine the non-linear association between calcium levels and CVD mortality. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for CVD mortality according to serum calcium categories. All survival analyses were stratified by the estimated glomerular filtration rate. Results: Over a follow-up period of 11.9±2.8 years, 1757 participants died, of whom 219 died from CVD. A U-shaped association between serum calcium and CVD mortality was found, and the association was more evident in the low kidney function group. Compared to the 25.0-50.0th percentile group for serum calcium levels, both low and high serum calcium tended to be associated with CVD mortality (<2.5th: HR, 6.23; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16 to 33.56; >97.5th: HR, 2.56; 95% CI, 0.76 to 8.66) in the low kidney function group. In the normal kidney function group, a similar association was found between serum calcium levels and CVD mortality (<2.5th: HR, 1.37; 95% CI, 0.58 to 3.27; >97.5th: HR, 1.65; 95% CI, 0.70 to 3.93). Conclusions: We found a non-linear association between serum calcium levels and CVD mortality, suggesting that calcium dyshomeostasis may contribute to CVD mortality, and kidney function may modify the association.
