  • Single crystal $CuAlSe_2$ layers were grown on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate at 410$^{\circ}C$ with hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system by evaporating $CuAlSe_2$ source at $680^{\circ}C$. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence(PL) and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXO). The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CuAlSe_2$ obtained from the absorpt ion spectra was wel1 described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g$(T) = 2.8382 eV - ($8.86\times10^{-4}$ eV/H)$T_2$/(T + 155K). After the as-grown single crystal $CuAlSe_2$ thin films were annealed in Cu-, Se-, and Al-atmospheres, the origin of point defects of single crystal $CuAlSe_2$ thin films has been investigated by PL at 10 K. The native defects of $V_{cd}$, $V_{se}$, $Cd_{int}$, and $Se_{int}$ obtained by PL measurements were classified as donors or acceptors. And we concluded that the heat-treatment in the Cu-atmosphere converted single crystal $CuAlSe_2$ thin films to an optical n-type. Also. we confirmed that hi in $CuAlSe_2$/GaAs did not form the native defects because Al in single crystal $CuAlSe_2$ thin films existed in the form of stable bonds.

  • In order to improve the efficiency of Cu2-xS-CdS PN junction type solar cell, a method of reducing the series resiatance is considered. In the fabrication of the thin film of Cu2-xS, what has the largest value of conductivity is fabricated at 250 $^{\circ}C$. The thin film of CdS which has beer fabricated at the temperature 250-30$0^{\circ}C$ of the substrate and 800-85$0^{\circ}C$ of evaporating material has the largest value of conductivity and also fairly good photoelectric characteristics. Therefore, the evaporated thin aim type CdS solar cell has been fabricated at the temperature 25$0^{\circ}C$ of the substrate and 800-85$0^{\circ}C$ of the evaporating material, and its efficiency is measured to he 6%.

  • We have investigated the photoinduced anisotropy in chalcogenide $As_{40}Ge_{10}Se_{15}S_{35}$ thin films, non-doped and photodoped by Ag and Cu. The films were exposed by the linearly polarized He-Ne laser light( $\lambda$=632.8nm). The Ag and Cu photodoping resulted in reducing the time of saturation photoinduced linearly dichroism. Also photoinduced linearly dichroism was increased up to maximum 184% by Ag photodoping and 138% by Cu photodoping, respectively. As the result of this study, the linearly dichroism can be interesting for different applications of photoinduced anisotropy. In addition, it will offer lots of information for the photodoping mechanism and analysis of chalcogenide thin film.

  • Silica-based ceramic-matrix composites have shown promise as advanced materials for many applications such as chemical catalysts, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, and electronics. $SiO_2$-CuO-$CeO_2$ multi-component powders and their thin film, using an oxalic acid template as a chelating agent, have larger surface areas and more uniform pore size distribution than those of inorganic acid catalysts. $SiO_2$-CuO-$CeO_2$ composite powders were synthesized using tetraethylorthosilicate, copper (II) nitrate hemi (pentahydrate), and cerium (III) nitrate hexahydrate with oxalic acid as template or pore-forming agent. The process of thermal evolution, the phase composition, and the surface morphology of these powders were monitored by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDXS). The mesoporous property of the powders was observed by Brunner-Emmett-Teller surface (BET) analysis. The improved surface area of this powder template with oxalic acid was $371.4m^2/g$. This multi-component thin film on stainless-steel was prepared by sol-gel dip coating with no cracks.

  • A new type $Cu_{x}N/Cu/Cu_{x}N$ thin film electrode material with high adhesion to glass was developed by the dc reactive planar magnetron sputtering system for the PDP(Plasma Display Panel). The adhesive force of the $Cu_{x}N$ thin film was in the range of $20{\sim}40(N)$ under the conditions of the $N_2$ partial pressure of 15%, discharge current of 70mA, discharge voltage of 450V and substrate bias voltage of -100V. The adhesive force was depended on the $N_2$ partial pressure, discharge current and substrate bias voltage.

  • A stoichiometric mixture of evaporating materials for $CuAlSe_2$ single crystal thin films was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. To obtain the single crystal thin films, $CuAlSe_2$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperatures were $680^{\circ}C$ and $410^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The carrier density and mobility of $CuAlSe_2$ single crystal thin films measured with Hall effect by van der Pauw method are $9.24{\times}10^{16}\;cm^{-3}$ and $295\;cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CuAlSe_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)\;=\;2.8382\;eV\;-\;(8.68{\times}10^{-4}\;eV/K)T^2/(T+155K)$. The crystal field and the spin-orbit splitting energies for the valence band of the $CuAlSe_2$ have been estimated to be 0.2026 eV and 0.2165 eV at 10K, respectively, by means of the photocurrent spectra and the Hopfield quasicubic model. These results indicate that the splitting of the ${\Delta}so$ definitely exists in the ${\Gamma}_5$ states of the valence band of the $CuAlSe_2$. The three photocurrent peaks observed at 10K are ascribed to the $A_1-$, $B_1-$, and $C_1$-exciton peaks for n = 1.

To obtain the single crystal thin films, $CuInSe_2$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperatures were $620^{\circ}C$ and $410^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The carrier density and mobility of $CuInSe_2$ single crystal thin films measured with Hall effect by van der Pauw method are $9.62{\times}10^{l6}\;cm^{-3}$ and $296\;cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CuInSe_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)\;=\;1.1851\;eV\;-\;(8.99{\times}10^{-4}\;eV/K)T^2/(T+153K)$. The crystal field and the spin-orbit splitting energies for the valence band of the $CuInSe_2$ have been estimated to be 0.0087 eV and 0.2329 eV at 10K, respectively, by means of the photocurrent spectra and the Hopfield quasicubic model. These results indicate that the splitting of the ${\Delta}_{so}$ definitely exists in the $\Gamma_6$ states of the valence band of the $CuInSe_2$. The three photocurrent peaks observed at 10K are ascribed to the $A_1-$, $B_1-$, and $C_1$-exciton peaks for n = 1.

  • This study reports the effects of $H_2S$ gas concentration on the properties of $Cu_2ZnSnS_4(CZTS)$ thin films. Specifically, sulfurization process with low $H_2S$ concentrations of 0.05% and 0.1%, along with 5% $H_2S$ gas, was studied. CZTS films were directly synthesized on Mo/Si substrates by chemical bath deposition method using copper sulfate, zinc sulfate heptahydrate, tin chloride dihydrate, and sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate. Smooth CZTS films were grown on substrates at optimized chemical bath deposition condition. The CZTS films sulfurized at low $H_2S$ concentrations of 0.05 % and 0.1% showed very rough and porous film morphology, whereas the film sulfurized at 5% $H_2S$ yielded a very smooth and dense film morphology. The CZTS films were fully crystallized in kesterite crystal form when they were sulfurized at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The kesterite CZTS film showed a reasonably good room-temperature photoluminescence spectrum that peaked in a range of 1.4 eV to 1.5 eV, consistent with the optimal bandgap for CZTS solar cell applications.
