  • An experiment was conducted investigate the of supplemental Cu and Zn methionine chelates on the performance, nutrient digestibility, serum IgG level, gizzard erosion, and Cu and Zn contents in the liver and excretion of broiler chickens. One thousand hatched broiler chickens (Ross) of one day old were assigned to 4 treatments:control(T1), 100ppm of copper in the from of Cu-methionine chelate(Cu-Met, T2), 100ppm of zinc in the from of Zn-methionine chelate(Zn-Met, T3) and 100ppm of copper plus 100ppm of zinc in the from of methionine chelate(Cu-Zn-Met, T4). Each treatment had four replications of 50 bird each. Weight gain of chicks fed chelated products were significantly higher than that of chicks fed control(P<0.05).Combination of Cu and Zn chelates(Cu-Zn-Met) tended to show the best growth rate and feed conversion ratio. Nutrient digestibilities were not affected by dietary treatments. Serum IgG level of chicks fed Cu-Zn-Met was significantly higher than that of chicks fed control(P<0.05). Gizzard erosion index was not significantly different among treatments. Contents of Cu and Zn in liver were not significantly affected by dietary treatments, whereas excretions of these minerals were significantly affected by dietary treatments.

  • In recent years, Mg and its alloys have attracted a great deal of attention due to their low density, relatively excellent castability, and straightforward recyclability. Mg alloys have been widely applied to various industrial fields, and are representatively used in automotive and electronic parts. According to previous researches, the electrical conductivity of Mg alloys greatly decreases with increasing Al content. However, with the addition of Zn and/or Cu, the electrical conductivity of Mg alloys is maintained or slightly increased, and improved mechanical properties are obtained as well. On this basis, Mg-Zn-Cu alloys have been investigated in the present study with a focus on the effect of adding Zn and Cu on the electrical conductivity. The Zn and Cu contents ranged from 4 to 6wt.% and 0 to 1.5wt.%, respectively. Ternary Mg-Zn-Cu alloys have been prepared by gravity casting in a steel mold. In the as-casting condition, the electrical conductivity of Mg-Zn-Cu alloys showed a linear increasing trend with decreasing Zn and increasing Cu contents. Furthermore, impact values of Zn = -1.5 and Cu = 2.5 were determined for these alloys by electrical conductivity tests.

  • A layer experiment was conducted to determine the effects of supplementary methionine chelates (Cu, Zn and Mn), individual or in combination, on laying performance, eggshell quality, gizzard erosion, and IgG level of serum for 8 weeks. Five hundred 96-wk-old force molted ISA Brown layers were assigned to five dietary treatments. Basal diet was formulated to meet or exceed the nutrients requirements listed in NRC (1994). Five experimental diets were control, Zn-methionine chelate (Zn-Met) supplemented, Cumethionine chelate (Cu-Met) supplemented, Zn-Mn-methionine chelate (Zn-Mn-Met) supplemented and Zn-Mn-Cu-Met supplemented diet. Each treated diet was supplemented with respective mineral(s) at the level of 100 ppm in the form of methionine chelate. Egg production was increased by Cu-Met supplementation but decreased by Zn-Met supplementation. Egg weight was significantly (p<0.05) lower in Cu-Met treatment than those of the control and Zn-Met treatment. Specific gravity of eggs and eggshell strength were highest and soft egg production was lowest in Cu-Met treatment. Gizzard erosion index was significantly increased by supplementation of Cu-Met, Zn-Mn-Met or Zn-Mn-Cu-Met. Zinc content in liver significantly increased by Zn-Met, but not by Zn-Mn-Cu-Met treatment. In conclusion, 100 ppm Cu in Cu-Met chelate improved laying performance and eggshell quality but also increased gizzard erosion index. Supplementation of Zn-Met or its combination with other mineral chelates had no beneficial effects on laying performance and eggshell quality.

  • In this research, the processing control of NiCuZn Ferrite has been developed. The relationship between initial permeability and bulk density of NiCuZn Ferrite with processing factors was studied. NiCuZn Ferrite, which calcinated at $700^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours, was ball milled for about 60 hours to make a size of $0.5\mu\textrm{m}$ followed by granulation using spray dryer. The physical properties and the magnetic properties of NiCuZn Ferrite were investigated with the processing factor, such as (i) granule size and forming pressure, and (ii) sintering temperature. The green density of NiCuZn Ferrite was largely depended on the forming pressure rather than its granule size. The green density of NiCuZn Ferrite was increased from $2.484\;g/cm^{3}$ to $3.002\;g/cm^{3}$ with increase in forming pressure. The bulk density of NiCuZn Ferrite was increased from $3.470\;g/cm^{3}$ to $4.754\;g/cm^{3}$ linearly with increase in sintering temperature. The relationship between initial permeability and bulk density of NiCuZn Ferrite was expressed with the empirical equation,$\mu_{i}=a+b_{\rho}+c_{\rho}^2$ at forming pressure and sintering temperature.

  • The object of this study is to evaluate and discriminate nondestructively the dislocation substructures of Cu and Cu-Zn alloy subjected to the low-cycle-fatigue. The ultrasonic wave velocity, electrical resistivity and positron annhilation lifetime(PAL) were measured to the nondestructive testing. Cyclic fatigue test of Cu and Cu-Zn alloy with much different stacking fault energies was conducted and the correlations between dislocation behavior and nondestructive parameters were studied. Dislocation cell substructure was developed in Cu, while planar array of dislocation structure was developed in Cu-35Zn alloy only increasing dislocation density with fatigue cycles. Decrease in ultrasonic wave velocity, increase in electrical resistivity and PAL were shown because of the development of lattice defects, dislocations and vacancies, by cyclic fatigue at room temperature. In contrast to Cu-Zn alloy of the planar-array dislocation substructure showing continuous changes in the nondestructive parameters, it does not make any noticeable changes in the nondestructive parameters after the evolution of dislocation cell substructure in Cu.

  • For dye sensitization of zinc oxide in the visible region, copper phthalocyanine(CuPc) and sunfast yellow(SY) were adsorbed in two layers on zinc oxide powder. The adsorption structures of $\alpha-and\beta-CuPc$ on zinc oxide were investigated by photoacoustic, IR and Raman spectra. The ${\alpha}-and\;{\beta}$-polymorphs exhibited dimeric structure or molecular aggregates. The surface photovoltaic effect of ZnO/CuPc/SY showed higher than that of ZnO/SY/CuPc and $ZnO/\beta-CuPc/SY$ indicated better photosensitive than $ZnO/\alpha-CuPc/SY.$ Electrophotographic sensitivity of $ZnO/\beta-CuPc/SY$ was $$S_{1/2}=2.99{\times}10^{-2}(erg/cm^2)^{-1}$ at 630 nm.

  • The effect of a sputter deposition sequence of Cu, Zn, and Sn metal layers on the properties of $Cu_2ZnSnS_4$ (CZTS) was systematically studied for solar cell applications. The set of Cu/Sn/Zn/Cu multi metal films was deposited on a Mo/$SiO_2$/Si wafer using dc sputtering. CZTS films were prepared through a sulfurization process of the Cu/Sn/Zn/Cu metal layers at $500^{\circ}C$ in a $H_2S$ gas environment. $H_2S$ (0.1%) gas of 200 standard cubic centimeters per minute was supplied in the cold-wall sulfurization reactor. The metal film prepared by one-cycle deposition of Cu(360 nm)/Sn(400 nm)/Zn(400 nm)/Cu(440 nm) had a relatively rough surface due to a well-developed columnar structure growth. A dense and smooth metal surface was achieved for two- or three-cycle deposition of Cu/Sn/Zn/Cu, in which each metal layer thickness was decreased to 200 nm. Moreover, the three-cycle deposition sample showed the best CZTS kesterite structures after 5 hr sulfurization treatment. The two- and three-cycle Cu/Sn/Zn/Cu samples showed high-efficient photoluminescence (PL) spectra after a 3 hr sulfurization treatment, wheres the one-cycle sample yielded poor PL efficiency. The PL spectra of the three-cycle sample showed a broad peak in the range of 700-1000 nm, peaked at 870 nm (1.425 eV). This result is in good agreement with the reported bandgap energy of CZTS.

  • Composition and process conditions for low temperature sintered NiCuZn ferrites were investigated, so as to fabricate multilayered chip inductor. The$Fe_2O_3$ deficiency for low temperature sintering was decreased with NiO contents of NiCuZn ferrites. The permeability of NiCuZn ferrites can be controlled in the range of 12~562 with the variation of NiO and $Co_3O_4$ contents. The $Q_{max} $ frequency of NiCuZn ferrites was decreased from 50 MHz to 3 MHz linearly with permeability increase from 60 to 560. The relation between the $Q_{max}$ frequency(Y) and permeability(X) of NiCuZn ferrites was expressed with the following empirical equation, logY=4.2-1.4logX.

  • Commercially available elemental powders of Cu, Zn, Sn and Se were employed for crystallizing a stannite-type $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ compound by means of solid state reaction. $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ reaction chemistry was also modeled based on differential-thermal analysis and X-ray powder diffraction results. It was observed that Se tends to react preferably with Cu to form CuSe and $CuSe_2$ phases at low reaction temperature. The formation of $Cu_5Zn_8$ intermetallic phase was found to be the intermediate reaction path for the binary ZnSe formation. A solid state reaction at $320^{\circ}C$ reacted elemental powderst obinary selenides of CuSe, ZnSe and SnSe completely. The crystallization of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ was was detected to begin at $300^{\circ}C$ and its weight fraction increased with an increase of reaction temperature, which most probably formed from the reaction between $Cu_2SnSe_3$ and ZnSe.
