Observation of Electrocatalytic Amplification of Iridium Oxide (IrOx) Single Nanoparticle Collision on Copper Ultramicroelectrodes

  • Recently, the observation of the electrocatalytic behavior of individual nanoparticles (NPs) by electrochemical amplification method has been reported. For example, the Iridium oxide ($IrO_x$) NP collision on the Pt UME was observed via electrocatalytic water oxidation. However, the bare Pt UME had poor reproducibility for the observation of NP collision signal and required an inconvenient surface pre-treatment for the usage. In this manuscript, we has been investigated other metal electrode such as Cu UME for the reproducible data analysis and convenient use. The $IrO_x$ NP collision was successively observed on the bare Cu UME and the reproducibility in collision frequency was improved comparing with previous case using the $NaBH_4$ pre-treated Pt UME. Also, the adhesion coefficient between NP and the Cu UME was studied for better understanding of the single NP collision system.

  • Manufacturing bulk nanostructured materials with least grain growth from initial powders is challenging because of the bottle neck of bottom-up methods using the conventional powder metallurgy via compaction and sintering. In the study, densification behavior of nano Cu powders during pressureless sintering was investigated using an in-situ optical dilatometer technique. The initial heating and steady temperature stages during the sintering of nano Cu powder compacts were observed. At the initial heating stage, the powder compact has many porosities and full densification needs high temperature and/or high pressure sintering. In the experimental analysis, changes in geometry and density were measured and discussed for optimal consolidation and densification by the in-situ optical dilatometer.

  • Bisphenol A shares similarities in structure, metabolism and action with DES, a known human teratogen and carcinogen. Bisphenol A, a monomer of polycarbonate and epoxy resins, has been detected in canned food and human saliva. The purpose of the this study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity, cell proliferation of bisphenol A In the presence of a rat liver S9 mix, contaning cytochrome P450 enzymes, and Cu (II). In the present study, Bisphenol A in combination with Cu (II) exhibited a enhancement in cytotoxicity which were inhibited by free radical scavengers. The content of malondialdehyde, an end product of lipid peroxidation, was also found to increase with concentration of bisphenol A. Also, we examined the change of CuZn-SOD, Mn-SOD, catalase and GPx activities in the MCF-7 cells exposed to bisphenol A. The activities of CuZn-SOD, CPx, catalase were found to decrease with bisphenol A concentration. Meanwhile, the activity of Mn-SOD was unchanged. This indicated that elevated oxidative stress caused by imbalance between the production and removal of free radicals occurred in cells.

Rubbing effect on orientation of Copper Phthalocyanine for flexible organic field-effect transistors

  • Copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) Field-effect transistors (FETs) was successfully fabricated on plastic substrates. Orientation of CuPc crystallites on substrate could be obtained via rubbing process. It was revealed that CuPc crystallites were perpendicularly aligned on PES substrates with the rubbing direction. The performance of FETs was affected by orientation of CuPc on rubbed substrates.

Variation of Copper and Zinc-Ion Adsorption Capacity via Zeolitification of Jeju Scoria (제주 스코리아의 제올라이트화에 따른 구리와 아연 이온의 흡착 용량 변화)

  • Scoria from Jeju-island (Jeju scoria) was converted into zeolitic material (Z-SA) via zeolitification using the fusion/hydrothermal method. Jeju scoria could be synthesized into Z-SA to from a surface covered with Na-A zeolite crystals, which was confirmed through an analysis of X-ray diffraction peak patterns and scanning electron microscopy images. Jeju scoria and Z-SA were employed as adsorbents to evaluate the adsorption rate and adsorption capacities for Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions. The adsorption rates and isothermal adsorption capacities could be well fitted by the pseudo-quadratic adsorption kinetics and Langmuir adsorption isotherm, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities (qm) of Z-SA for Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions were found to be 163.36 mg/g and 120.51 mg/g, respectively, using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. When Z-SA is synthesized from Jeju scoria via zeolitification using the fusion/hydrothermal method, Z-SA exhibits an adsorption capacity that is more than approximately 100 times the value exhibited by Jeju scoria. As a result, the synthesized Z-SA was regarded as an effective, economic adsorbent.

  • The metal alkoxide, CuCo-glycerate nanospheres (NSs), were successfully synthesized as Cu-Co bimetallic sulfides hierarchical multi-shelled hollow nanospheres ($CuCo_2S_4$ HMHNSs) through solvothermal synthesis. In this reaction mechanism, the solvothermal temperature and the amount of glycerol as a cosurfactant play significant role to optimize the morphology of CuCo-glycerate NSs. Furthermore, $CuCo_2S_4$ HMHNSs were obtained under optimized sulfurization reaction time of 10 h via anion exchange reaction between glycerate and sulfur ions. Finally, the structural and chemical compositions of CuCo-glycerate NSs and $CuCo_2S_4$ HMHNSs were confirmed through field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical performances.

EFFECT OF NF3 GAS ON STABILIZATION OF ALKALINE EARTH METAL-Cu MORDENITE CATALYSTS DURING N2O DECOMPOSITION REACTION

  • Mordenite-zeolite supported Ca-Cu and Ba-Cu catalysts (Ca-Cu/MOR and Ba-Cu MOR) were successfully fabricated for direct decomposition of both NF3 and N2O gases contained in waste gas stream of (semiconductor) electronics industry. N2O conversion rates of Ca-Cu and Ba-Cu catalysts were 79 and 86%, respectively, at 700℃ and 1 atm under space velocity of 5000 h-1. The Ca-Cu catalyst was especially noteworthy in that its capability of converting N2O could be maintained even after its exposure to co-feeding NF3 gas constituent in the waste gas stream. Compositional and surface morphological analyses of the Ca-Cu and Ba-Cu catalysts were made before and after exposure to the waste gas stream to examine any noticeable degradation or change of the catalysts. Unlike Ba-Cu catalyst, SiO2 constituent of the Ca-Cu catalyst was found to remain immune to the NF3-cofeeding waste gas stream, casting a positive prospect for superior and steady N2O decomposition performance via maintenance of its structural integrity.

  • 반도체 소자 성능 향상을 위한 3차원 TSV배선 공정이 연구되었다. 전기도금을 이용한 TSV 공정 시 기존에는 황산 구리 수용액내에 억제제, 가속제, 평탄제등을 첨가한 복잡한 전해질이 사용되었지만 본 연구에서는 억제제만을 이용하여 Cu bottom-up filling에 성공하여 전해질의 조성을 단순화 시켰다.

Fabrication of Probe Beam by Using Joule Heating and Fusing (절연절단법을 이용한 프로브 빔의 제작)

  • In this paper, we developed a beam of MEMS probe card using a BeCu sheet. Silicon wafer thickness of $400{\mu}m$ was fabricated by using deep reactive ion etching (RIE) process. After forming through silicon via (TSV), the silicon wafer was bonded with BeCu sheet by soldering process. We made BeCu beam stress-free owing to removing internal stress by using joule heating. BeCu beam was fused by using joule heating caused by high current. The fabricated BeCu beam measured length of 1.75 mm and width of 0.44 mm, and thickness of $15{\mu}m$. We measured fusing current as a function of the cutting planes. Maximum current was 5.98 A at cutting plane of $150{\mu}m^2$. The proposed low-cost and simple fabrication process is applicable for producing MEMS probe beam.
