A series of investigations for Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) castings were carried out by using the specimens with various chemical compositions and heat treatment conditions. The rolling wear characteristics of alloyed austempered ductile irons under an unlubricated dry rolling condition was evaluated by the Amsler type test with 9.09% sliding ratio. Generally, the wear amount was increased with the austempering temperature and decreased when the hardness of the matrix was higher. The alloying elements also influenced the austempering reaction, the microstructure and the mechanical properties. In this study, the mechanical properties (i.e.) ultimate tensile strength (UTS), hardness, elongation) and the wear resistance are analysed to show the relationship between the alloying elements and the austempering temperatures. Mo, Cu and Ni are alloyed individually or in combination. It has been found that when Cu and Ni alloyed individually to a casting, the wear amount is increased than others with elements alloyed in combination. The amount of rolling wear loss was decreased when Mo was alloyed in cast iron, individually or in combination.

The effects of copper on the anaerobic degradation of propionate were studied using anaerobic batch reactors. The apparent inhibitory effects of copper on the anaerobic degradation of propionate could be observed from behaviors of intermediates, ultimate methane yield(UMY) and specific methanogenic activity(SMA) There was little inhibition at the concentration of $2.5mg\;Cu^{2+}/L$. Beyond this concentration, the inhibitory effects increased with increasing dose of coppers. The 50% inhibition of UMY and SMA occurred at copper dosage of 33.8 and $24.1mg\;Cu^{2+}/gVSS$, respectively. The inhibitory effect based on the UMY was gradually reduced with the operation time dueprobably to the acclimation of microorganisms and/or binding of the added copper by ligands(and possibly ion exchange sites)contained on the cell membrane and extracellular polymer matrix whereas it based on the SMA might exclude the this phenomena. Therefore, the methodology for interpretation of inhibition data based on the SMA was more accurated than the UMY. There was no inhibitory effect in batch reactors supplemented with sulfate due to an antagonistic action of the sulfate reducing bacteria. Propionate degradation was initially retarded for copper inhibited samples but it gradually degraded afterward. Based on the mass removal considering take into account the propionate to acetate conversion, propionate degradation may appeal more affected than acetate. This result revealed that the hydrogenotrophic methanogens were the most affected by copper.
We investigate the effect of phosphorous content on the microstructure and magnetic properties of Fe83.2Si5.33-0.33xB10.67-0.67xPxCu0.8 (x = 1-4 at.%) nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys. The simultaneous addition of Cu and P to nanocrystalline alloys reportedly decreases the nanocrystalline size significantly, to 10-20 nm. In the P-containing nanocrystalline alloy, P atoms are distributed in an amorphous residual matrix, which suppresses grain growth, increases permeability, and decreases coercivity. In this study, nanocrystalline ribbons with a composition of Fe83.2Si5.33-0.33xB10.67-0.67xPxCu0.8 (x = 1-4 at.%) are fabricated by rapid quenching melt-spinning and thermal annealing. It is demonstrated that the addition of a small amount of P to the alloy improves the glass-forming ability and increases the resistance to undesirable Fex(B,P) crystallization. Among the alloys investigated in this work, an Fe83.2Si5B10P1Cu0.8 nanocrystalline ribbon annealed at 460℃ exhibits excellent soft-magnetic properties including low coercivity, low core loss, and high saturation magnetization. The uniform nanocrystallization of the Fe83.2Si5B10P1Cu0.8 alloy is confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis.

The high Tc superconductor of YBCO system with the nominal composition of precursor was prepared from mixed powders of $Y_2O_3$, $BaCO_3$, CuO and $TiO_2$ by the thermal pyrolysis method. The effect of $TiO_2$ doping to Y based ceramics superconductors fabricated by the thermal pyrolysis reaction, to investigate the effect of the dopant on the superconductivity. The voltage appearing across the field-cooled HTS sample increased with external magnetic field. The improvement of critical current property as well as the mechanical property is important for the application. The improvement of the critical current can be achieved by forming the nano size defect working as a flux pining center inside the superconductor. We simply added $TiO_2$ to starting materials to dope $TiO_2$ and observed an increase in the trapped field and the critical current density up to at least 5 wt % $TiO_2$. The $TiO_2$ was converted to fine $BaTiO_3$ particles which were trapped in YBCO matrix during the sintering process. We observed a peak effect of Jc that can be attributed to $TiO_2$ doping and results suggest that introducing a proper amount of pinning centers can significantly enhance current density.
The improvement of critical current properties of $REBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (REBCO) coated conductors by introducing artificial pinning centers (APCs) is examined with respect to the field-angle anisotropy, high-field performance and relaxation property with time. Nano-rods along the c-axis introduced by PLD method and isotropic nano-particles introduced by TFA-MOD method are treated. The theoretical analysis is also shown to understand the effect of APCs quantitatively. The effects of superconducting layer thickness that influences the high-field performance and relaxation property are also discussed. It is shown that the upper critical field, which is another important factor to determine the high-field property, can be improved by introduction of APCs through electron scattering at interfaces with the superconducting matrix. The optimum critical current property can be obtained by properly designing the morphology and number density of APCs and the superconducting layer thickness.
Dynamic plastic deformation behavior of copper particles occurred during the cold spray processing was numerically analyzed using the finite element method. The study was to investigate the impact as well as the heat transfer phenomena, happened due to collision of the copper particle of $20{\mu}m$ in diameter with various initial velocities of $300{\sim}600m/s$ into the copper matrix. Effective strain, temperature and their distribution were investigated for adiabatic strain and the accompanying adiabatic shear localization at the particle/substrate interface.

Retained austenite in matrix of austempered ductile iron has been well-known as a parameter in controlling mechanical properties, but investigation to obtain quantitative relationship with mechanical properties lack. Therefore, this study executed austempering treatment at various temperatures on ductile iron alloyed with Mo, Ni, Cu. In consequence, microstructure of retained austenite transformed coarse, and quantity increased according as austempering temperature increased. After heat-treatment, microstructure of specimen alloyed with Ni was fine, and toughness improved. At austempering temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$, carbide precipitation started in retained austenite. In consequence, afforded cause of hardness increase, a lot of increase did not arise for coarse structure.
In this study, various alloying elements (Cr, Sr, Ca, Cd) were added to improve the mechanical properties of ADC12 fabricated by a die casting process. The effect of alloying elements on the microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. The phase analysis results of the modified ADC12 alloy with conventional ADC12 alloy, showed the similar characteristics of Al matrix, Si phase, $CuAl_2$ phase and the Fe intermetallic phase. As a result of the microstructure observation, the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) was shown to have decreased after the addition of the alloying elements. The eutectic Si phase, which existed as flake form in the conventional ADC12 alloy, was modified finely as a fiber form in the modified ADC12 alloy. It was observed that the $CuAl_2$ phase as the strengthening phase was relatively finely distributed in the modified ADC12 alloy. The Fe intermetallic appeared as a Chinese script shaped $Al_6$ (Mn,Fe) which is detrimental to mechanical properties in conventional ADC12 alloy. On the other hand, in the modified ADC12 alloy, polyhedral ${\alpha}-Al_{15}Si_2$$(Fe,Mn,Cr)_3$ was observed. The tensile properties were improved in the modified ADC12 alloy. The yield strength and tensile strength increased by 12.4% and 10.0%, respectively, in the modified ADC12 alloy, and the elongation was also seen to have been increased. As a result of the pin on disk wear test, the wear resistance properties were also improved by up to about 7% in the modified ADC12 alloy. It is noted that the wear deformation microstructures were also observed, and it was found that the fine eutectic Si and strengthening phases greatly improved abrasion resistance.
Grey iron containing a small amount of Cu and Mo to improve the effect of heat treatment and microstructures were poured in to the mold and them austenized at $900^{\circ}C$. After austenitizing the specimens of castings were austempered $210^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$ and $350^{\circ}C$. The effects of matrix structures, mechanical properties and wear characteristics were investigated by austempering temperatures. Tensile strength and hardness of austempered grey iron are increased and the amount of retained austenite is decreased as austempering temperature is lower even though the amount of retained autenite in it only 4%. The amount of rolling wear loss are increased as rolling revolution is increased and wear loss of austempered grey iron under dry rolling condition is characterized by three models; initial wear, stationary wear and abnormal wear. It has been found that the amount of wear loss was increased with increasing maxium compressive stress and rolling revolution.

A thorough study about the influences of Mn substitution for Fe on the microstructure and magnetic characteristics of $Fe_{73.5-x}Mn-{x}Si_{13.5}B_{9}Nb_{3}Cu_1$ (x = 1, 3, 5) alloys prepared by the melt-spinning technique has been performed. Nanocomposites composed of nanoscale $(Fe,Mn)_{3}Si$ magnetic phase embedded in an amorphous matrix were obtained by annealing their amorphous alloys at $535^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The addition of Mn causes a slight increase in the mean grain size. The Curie temperatures of the initial amorphous phase and of the nanocrystals phase decreased, while the Curie temperature of the remaining amorphous phase remained nearly constant with increasing Mn content. Soft magnetic properties of the crystallized samples have been significantly improved by a proper thermal treatment. Accordingly, the giant magnetoimpedance effect is observed and ascribed to the increase of the magnetic permeability, and the decrease of the coercivity of the samples. The increased magnetic permeability is resulted from a decrease in the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and saturation magnetostriction.
